Game Thread Lady Vols vs Texas

If only SC has anyone to score against Tennessee besides Wilson. My guess is that Jennings won't be getting many easy looks. If Tennessee can shut down McCarty, you think anyone's afraid of Harris?

I'm not underestimating SC, but don't think for a minute that the matchups favor you. Plus, you have no depth.

SC has plenty of players who can score agaisnt Tenn. SC will have Cuevas-Moore (who scored 18 on y'all last year) and Lindsey Spann back as well as Cooper who should be eligible. Nared scored 23 points but had to shoot 20 shots to get there and only made 6. She's your best player, shut her down who else is scoring? Russell is not going to dominate the block agaisnt Wilson you can guarantee that. Also SC plays much better defense then Texas so those easy layups and putbacks aren't going to happen. Not to mention the game is at home and Do you seriously think Dawn and Aja are going to lose to Tenn two years in a row at home?? Come on Amb I thought you was smarter then that! Also Tenn has far less depth then SC trust me.

Pat is absolutely NOT smiling right now about this game.
Lol i guess you never paid attention. With the exception of the undefeated team, all Pat's teams won really ugly...a lot. Great defense and hard faught rebounding, she would have loved it. Heck she let Simmons jack up shots when no body was arround the basket to rebound. She mastered the art of ugly winning!

I didn't come here to argue or debate just to congratulate you all! I know what my team is capable of and you guys know the same with yours! We'll finally see who's better Jan 14th so until then we can save all the small talk.

We don't actually know our team that well yet - lots of new people still learning the system and gelling. They got a nice test today - big game, big crowd, big tv - that gives them a lot of confidence and much to build on. Glad you're watching! GLV!

So I fretted most of the game because someone on here predicted foul trouble for us due to Texas' longer bench! LVs played 8 deep (I think) and put 3 Texans on the bench with fouls. Also surprised at so many Texas one-and-dones. Maybe they were too amped up by the LV fans, lol
GLV!!!

That's the Amb I like!

Was at work so i wasn't able to watch but this was a really really good win for them. i'm happy for them.

Great win for us today!

So again I will say this is my first time seeing the team on TV. I’ve caught glimpses of the team playing on my phone. Definitely not the same as seeing them on the big screen.

My biggest takeaway from this years team from last years is that this teams feels more so like a TEAM. The chemistry, cohesion is much improved.
I love how they play hard, get in that defensive stance and squares up with the offensive team.
I’m soooo happy and look forward to a great year for us and by beating the #2 team in the country is a great win for us and the ladies (especially for the Freshmen).

Much more aggressive rebounding team too, especially on offense. None of that standing around stuff that plagued previous Holly teams.

Right! The team played with heart & tenacity.

I love how when things go chippy the girls weren’t one to back down!
Westbrook’s block on McCarty! 🙌🏽
She didn’t even say nothing to the girl! I guess the stare down was a bit much!
Evina also pushed away one of the Texas player when Meme got tangled up.
I just love the attitude of the team!

I can’t say enough how impressed I am with Westbrook. I think her technical was just an awful call because she didn’t say one word after the block.
So proud of these ladies on finishing this game.

Good POST! I feel the same way!

Tennessee Lady Vol basketball is BACK to what they were known for and that is defense and TENACITY!

The change? A couple of players are gone from last season. Bridgette Gordon on the bench. The addition of Cheridine Green, MeMe Jackson's IMPROVEMENT and The Fab Freshmen.

And above all else Team Ball and Coach Holly Warlick's battle cry of 'Playing HARD'

I never would had thunk it. Good job CHW. I'm a believer.

The game was sloppy yes but there were so MANY good playmaking.

Westbrook's block and her stare down!

Nared's leadership, snaring down REBOUNDS and ATTACKING the basket to score!

Annie's penetration amongst the bigs dishing and scoring and getting to the foul line.

Cedes playing to her potential BIG TIME. I loved her take down of Ariel Atkins. All Cedes did was come to a complete halt Atkins should of looked where she was going, Cedes is 6'6 how you gonna miss that? Longhorn DOWN! And the best of all her footwork in the paint! When she scored that behind the back layup amongst those Longhorns I about passed out with excitement!

LONDON is CALLING! Cheridene played like a true post player of Lady Vol of olde. I'm talking Nicky Anosike, Pashen Thompson and Tiffany Johnson!!!

Tennessee has sent a message to women college basketball.

WE ARE BACK!

The officiating was THE WORSE and the two Longhorn announcers can go kick rocks!

GO LADY VOLS! :)

I think they scored 6 points off of possessions resulting from being awarded the ball when it was out on them. White and Higgs had 4 missed travel calls that resulted in baskets. We had one.

Texas looked like crap because we played great defense and Holly had two players going back in transition at all times to limit their transition game (which is their strength). That's good coaching. Easy decision but deserves credit for getting the team to stay disciplined in that game plan. We made them play uncomfortable.

Westbrook was outstanding on McCarty. Nobody gets by her easily, if at all.

Russell was outstanding. Nared was outstanding. Great Senior leadership. They didn't have their best games offensively in terms of efficiency but did a lot of the dirty work on both ends. They, along with Green, kept a lot of plays alive at the end.

Green was my POY because of what she brought off the bench... NO DROP OFF. London can rebound anything.

Higgs was kept in check and forced into bad plays constantly. That's great defense, both on ball and help side.

Our offense obviously has room for monumental improvement. That's not surprising consider Tennessee doesn't have the most fluid system. But lets remember that the coaching staff has limited the amount of offensive schemes to help keep the froshies heads above water. They will continue to add and grow on that end. Movement is our biggest weakness.

We did not give up a ton of offensive rebounds. Against Texas that is huge.

Lots of positives to take away from an ugly game along with a fair share of negatives. Both teams need to/will get better.

A good read.

She admitted in postgame interview that she said something she shouldn’t have.

And I never knew her to be happy about sloppy, error-ridden play regardless of the outcome. Our players get an A++ for 40 mins of effort, which is a vast improvement over last year, but otherwise we won simply because Texas played worse than we did.

Uh, well the LVs might have contributed just a bit to TX's subpar offensive execution.

Outstanding win for the Lady Vols. Mercedes was dominant (must get her the ball more when shots aren't dropping for her teammates), Jamie inconsistent but determined, the freshmen impressive and CG powerful.

Holly has her best team. The zone was a smart move.

Loving the start to this season.
