Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs UCONN. ; Thurs Feb 6th ; Home game; 6:30 PM Eastern; ESPN...WIN 80-76

Kim kicked his ass. Don’t try to minimize what our ladies accomplished.
Huh? Not doing that at all—or, at least, that was absolutely not my intention. Kim's team won tonight, so she's obviously contributing to the narrative. 😎

My point is that Geno no longer feels like such a foreboding presence anymore. It used to be that UConn would just find a way to pull close games like this one out (the very few that were close in the first place, that is), and they've just looked like a different program of late. I think coaches like Kim are passing him up quickly.

If only I had not been booted from the boneyard a week or so ago, I could go there tonight and see the carnage. Oh well, let me just imagine, sometimes that is even better than the real thing. What a great game by UT.

Never been there, so figured I would take a look. Overall, they seem to be complimentary of the Lady Vols. Seems the speed and athleticism shocked them a bit.

A few “winners” on that board, but from what I can see in the couple threads I’ve looked at, they are just mad they lost but “not surprised”. They are trashing their own players though, which for those of us in the men’s hoops forum, is very familiar 🤣

Waiting on the responses from Stoors, Maple etc for their take…

Definitely familiar to the basketball _and_ football boards. Always people ready to criticize. There's been a lot of very critical knives out for the program these past few years. So I'm not surprised UConn's fans sound like that. As much as we hate them, and they hate us, we're not entirely dissimilar.

I've said it for years now, but they are in for a world of suffering once they have to go through what Tennessee fans did with Pat's retirement. Not even saying that out of hate. You just don't replace legends. Singular people are singular.

Btw, this uconn fan does not hate Tennessee or Tennessee fans. Besides a win, I got what I wanted...a great game, huge hostile crowd, fair refs (for the most part) and no injuries! Check, check, check and check.

It’s an epic night here, long overdue. Gratz.
Really annoying the way the announcers and the ESPN headline screamed how this was the first time since 2007 that Tennessee beat UConn.
Makes it sound like UConn has won 17 in a row when we have only played four times before tonite's game. Totally misleading.
They also never bothered to mention that the Lady Vols had won 3 straight from '05 - '07 before Coach Summitt pulled the plug on the series due to her lack of respect for slimy Geno.

Agree. It occurred to me tonight that this is the moment Geno got officially passed by. Just like he passed Pat in the 2000 Nat Champ game. There's just too many good players and too many good teams.

Can't say I agree that he passed her in 2000. Can't say I agree with that one bit. Hell, he didn't even "catch" Pat in titles until 2013. He did, however, have the best player in the game during the years that immediately followed 2000. And having the best player counts for a lot in this sport.

But personal disagreement aside, I did also think tonight that UConn didn't look anywhere as crisp as his best coached teams. The aura was definitely not what it's been in the past. Tennessee had a big part in throwing them off pace, of course. And If I recall correctly, they are missing a few important players, so perhaps that's a part of it as well.
