Game Thread Lady Vols vs Vanderbilt

That chest emptied after year four. On year five it became CHW's treasure chest. The players from CPS' era have all left the program. As of year five, only CHW-era players are there.

Yawn

I used to like reading your post's. Great insight and I agreed with most of what you posted especially you trying to help the team during the off season.

Something changed.

You made the board well aware that Holly wasn't picking up what you were putting down.

That is when the change occurred.

Don't be mad at me I didn't do anything to you. Holly did.

Holly is a tactician you say?

I'm happy that the LVs are playing so much better this season. Lots of variables on why that is.

I have an hawk like eye on Holly this season. That's because of the past 2 seasons of futility. I'm not giving her the benefit of the doubt, just yet.

I'll give you this (because you're reasonable & a nice poster) Holly will have coach the team into at least 3 of the wins coming up after the Vanderbilt game in order for me to see what you and all the other Holly sycophants see in her.

I swear to the high heavens you will not see no more negative threads regarding Holly by me. That's a promise I will keep. Because I know I'm offensive with my Holly rantings. I don't wanna be but she forces my hand especially when she's licking hers on national television.

Lol, well first off thank you for the compliment! I’m not a Holly lover but I will give credit where it is due she has gotten this team to play together and gel with a lot of first time players.

My comment said Holly is an “ok” tactician... I think her improvement comes with the differing players but also Coach Gordon. I think at times she could use her timeouts more wisely but I have seen some change ups thru out the games which gave me some hope that she is playing tonthe strengths of her players and not scared about putting who deserve to be out on the court.

FYI: your post don’t bother me and I think you are a true fan of the team and want them to do well. The last two years were well uhm... crap so I don’t fault you for your hawk eye on Holly. But while you’re keeping an eye on her don’t miss this fun team we have in front of us 😀! It’s enjoyable and nerve wracking lol!

Thank you for being a good sport! But the camera is always showing Holly on the sidelines and that just drives me crazy because she be doing some crazy stuff that irks me to no end. Anyway I'll close my eyes when I see her and I'll take your advise. I'll keep my eyes on the fun team. They are fun to watch that's for sure.

FYI I don't hate Holly. I just don't like her coaching style on the sidelines. But if the team keeps winning I'll get over it. :good!:

I am a UT LV backer....And I am a fan of any coach who can bring MY program success.

I have been down on CHW because the program I have backed since 1980 was becoming insignificant in the nation's assessment of our program. We suffered pitiful play, effort and gamesmanship and embarrassing results.

From day one of this season I changed my tune for many reasons. I knew with the departure of DD and Te' that the Alpha athletes had moved on. With the loss of Jollette there would only be coaches chosen by CHW. I said on postings from day one that there wwere no Alpha athletes in this mix and it would turn into a perfect storm. And it is still raining. Less lightning and thunder in the last two games, but still raining.

This past game, the girls were playing like crap. They were putting out effort,,, just couldn't get anything going on offense without forcing it. Several times they needed leadership from off the floor.

They got it from the coaching staff and weathered the bad play..

CHW took a timeout in late-Q1 and stopped a run. During the zTO, she jumped all in the girl's grills...They responded with more effort, but their level of play was still down. They needed something from off the floor to turn their effort...Coaching.

That type of game would have easily beat the team of last year,,,But this group never gave up.

How can you not be a fan of that kind of turnaround in leadership and in the program you follow?

When I post on this board it is not impress you ..or CHW....It is to give the insight and viewpoint of a coach who has coached exclusively in the girls/women's game for 36+ years.

I would love to see KK get some minutes if she is able. Post development could be helped immensely with some playing time. Same for Kamera. While Vandy is down this year, they have played us with determination in the past so I would not be surprised if they hang around on emotion for a little while.

Holly is lucky with the better players. That's it.

Mitchell is 100000000000,00000000,000000 PLUS infinity a better coach than Warlick.

No hard feelings. Just sayin' :yahoo:

We are giving them a sense of belonging!!! They shouldn’t even be on the same court with us???

How is the offense and defense looking?

I can’t watch the game but it appears we have an advantage inside as Russell has 8 points on 7 shots! Nice to see!

Don’t think Vandy can keep shooting 75% from the 3. Hopefully the Lady Vols wake up before the game is over. This shouldn’t even be close. Why do they continue to try to dribble when getting a loose ball? One of the first things I learned in elementary school is you pick up the ball, not try to dribble. Are kids not taught this anymore?

The one thing Vandy can do is shoot the three so we should really be pressuring them out there. They made 7 threes because we didn't get out and contest them enough on the perimeter.
Not a good level of play the last few games and again today to many careless passes that we should have never tried or decided to make.

A lot of these turnovers are just from not finishing plays 😤😤😤 not cutting hard, not being aware where they are on the court, and this is the first time I’ve seen their offense and missing shots affect their defense.... Jaime and Evina seem off. Evina passed Jaime a couple of good passes and Jaime didn’t pursue or come to meet the ball. Maybe she is more hurt or fatigued than we know. Evina seems meh right now. Holly tried to talk to her she was irritated and Holly grabbed her and made her listen. First time I’ve seen her drop her head after missing shots also.

However, I am glad to see Russell dominate. She could have had about 10 more free throws because Vandy is pushing her in the back along with not giving her room to come down when she catches the entry pass.

Freshman mistake by Hayes to not get a shot up before the half but at least it wasn’t another turnover I guess.

Some positives and some negatives.

Did anyone else see Dean come out of his chair and slam his clipboard when Rennia went under the screen and the girl hit the shot. I was happy to see them bring her out the game, seat her, and talk to her.

Along with the turnovers everyone is not shooting very well a lot of missed layups and free throws. No reason we shouldn't beat this team 20 points per half need to get focused and play a decent third and fourth quarter.

We're up 37-32 at the half. Vandy can't rebound with us and they're committing a lot of turnovers, but they're also 7 of 13 from 3 which is keeping them in the game. It's just a matter of time before we blow the game open. I would be happier if we would tighten up on our ball handling, too sloppy with the ball in the first half.

We should not be close with this team. Mercedes and Evina have missed some point blank shots. We just aren’t a great man defensive team. If we were to switch to zone, this game wouldn’t be close. All vandy is doing is driving and kicking to an open shooter.

You hit 7 threes your probably going to be close to the team your playing especially when we have made 0 thus far. I found it hard to understand why they are getting so open on threes I make them drive they will turn it over.

Om defense, we have to stop going under the screen!

Yes, but also, I think we should play zone. We’re much better in it with communicating.

I also think we’ve been jinxing the team when we wish for KK and others to get playing time, as if assuming we’re going to come out and dominate with our starters.

I really expected us to come out focused today didn't happen. Still have half a game to make it happen.
