Game Thread Lady Vols vs. Western Kentucky

Jordy Walker got some hands and can place defensive pressure on opposing point guards. also nice to see her not hesitate if someone goes under the screen to pull the trigger.

Seems like the turnovers went down also in the second half...

Realistically our defense was good. We controlled that half and not by accident. There were some nerves those first 3 minutes or so. Suarez, Walker and Green instantly made this a much more mature team. Would like to see Rennia enforce her will a bit.

Walker and Suarez see the court better than our other guards. Salary is a freshman so hoping she’ll develop but she gets the ball to open players about 2 seconds too late now. I always felt Rennie was really good at zipping passes to open players but she doesn’t get much time.

Yes, 3 turnovers in 2 minutes then 4 the other 16. Walker and Suarez both have great ball control and make the easy pass. Burrell seems to have improved her overall control a ton! Great signs

A lot of the misses were because we were mugged inside and the ref underneath was swallowing his whistle. Still should have finished some of them but hard to tell if it is systemic or jitters because it is the first game.

Marta not a freshman she plays the game with a level of a senior. She is a starter all season. Burrell got the long ball going. Davis will be glad to have all this offensive help. Maybe we'll make more of the inside shots in the second half of the game.

Yes. They were allowing them to body us due to the size difference. Hate when they do that. It’s still a foul. Not our fault they’re small. Always drove me nuts as a big. On the other end if you shift your weight wrong you’ll pull a whistle.

Other than the first 2 minutes of the first quarter in the last 2 minutes of the first quarter it seems like we paid much cleaner basketball.

Fan’s really spread out

Gosh so weird. Are they piping in fan noise? Colorado did that the other night. The announcers said it was weird. It was choreographed to the play as well. Someone was controlling it so people would cheer louder if they made a good play or something. 2020 lol

Darby must still have the ankle problems. Saunders as I expected is way down the depth chart hopefully she gets some minutes if we can string it on out in the third quarter.

WKU’s offense seemed to start with an effective high screen that opened up a drive lane that closed fairly quickly resulting in a kick out to the wing. They missed a lot of wide open shots.

Western is not very good ! But .... Suarez is going to be a REALLY GOOD PLAYER! But the others are doing well also . Rae is turning into the player we all hoped for . No bull in a China shop action! Rennia is smooth and steady ! Kelly has gotten some pieces we needed .... Walker is a point guard we needed . Plays under control and can step up to shoot when needed! Green will add leadership and a force to deal with. Even Destiny contributing.

Marta is the most advanced freshman I’ve seen since I saw Holsclaw score over 30 in her first game, she has a complete game.

I love the decision making by Rae Burrell. i also love Rennia allowing her teammates to get theirs she knows her is coming.

Rae looks a ton better though. She looks so much more under control. Hoping she’ll hit these FTs. That really has to be better if she’s going to take this many shots for us.
