Game Thread: (RV/RV) Lady Vols. 56 - (9/9) Virginia Tech 59

I also thought that Puckett would be a major contributor this year. Most of the time this year, she has that frozen self-conscious look that you see in Freshmen but less so in Sophomores who got decent experience as Freshmen. I know softball teams often get really silly on the sidelines to loosen up the nerves of their teammates before they go to bat. This team needs something like that, as it plays so tight for the most part. As noted above, it does make sense for Sara to get into the groove on the post. Even there, she hasn't looked in the flow so far but perhaps she just needs more time. With or without Rickea, this team needs some good three- point shooters who are confident to shoot in games. I think we have the first part of this equation, but we need the second part as well. Sara has the skills to do this and showed some moxie by hitting the game winning shot in the NCAA tournament last year.

Good post. Who do you think the shooters are? Jordan H has improved her shot but not necessarily shot efficiency. Walker can shoot but she misses shots she should hit and I pucker when she is passing out front. Sara is in a little shooting slump. Powell does not look like a gunner to me. Our shooting seems to be as much about feeling as it as mechanics and when you shoot with feeling, it is hard to maintain that the whole game. JMHO

That was sublime, Rick. Savage! Glad I wasn't drinking hot cider.

I mean, how do you even mess up the #1 movie quote of all time without trying really hard? That takes talent...or something.

You didn’t want an answer. Just looking to stir the pot. There are threads on every year of recruiting available to you.

Whatever, think what you want. I don’t make time to follow Lady Vols recruiting. Just don’t respond to my posts and I will ignore yours. I truly hope you you have a better day tomorrow.

I don't know the roster much anymore either due to apathy. I do know a few names though or at least know they sound familiar then I forget most of them in between games again. I do notice the same players who aren't elite shooters, dribblers or rebounders. Fairly stiff.

I don’t watch many of their games during football season as I watch NFL Sunday ticket on Sundays. So I don’t know their roster nor follow recruiting. I don’t know when signing day is for basketball (mens or women’s).

Hopefully they will get it turned around as the the season is early. Life is better when all Vols’ sports do well.

Where you at @GameTime

Look Jordan is why the LVs stayed in the game. But (there is always a but), elite game changing players (which JH should be) make plays late in the game, regardless of minutes player. The fact is she missed open jumpers and lay-ups early in the game as well. She has always been more of a scorer than "shooter." When she has a an offensive partner - like Burrell or jackson- there is a little room to absorb her inconsistent shot. when it is all on her (and that is a lot of responsibility to shoulder), 9-24 does not cut it. My comment is also a criticism of her teammates who are not stepping enough to help on the offensive end. So, it should not all be on Jordan but if it is, she has to push through the fatigue.
Madtownvol, you hit the nail on the head as always. Horton, as a a scorer, is not Candace Parker, Jackson is more like Parker. Too bad for LVs that Jackson had some kind of problem that resulted in her being suspended indefinetly.

Darby's shooting percentage from the 3-line is as good as her overall shooting percentage--39 percent. She should mainly shoot threes.

Puckett shot 43 percent last year and is shooting 26 percent this year. One big reason, IMO, is that she's playing half the minutes per game as she did
last year---10/11 minutes per game this year versus 22 minutes last year. Hard to get in a rhythm when you're coming in for, say, 4 minutes here and 4 minutes there. Takes a couple of minutes just to get your body warmed up. So I'm not surprised that her shooting percentage has fallen significantly.

Striplin's shooting percentage was good last year--44 percent---and even better this year, 67 percent. BUT: it's a very low sample size. She's only taken 12 shots all season, making 8.

Walker is not a good shooter and should not be shooting much.

Powell is shooting 40 percent for the season and 37 percent from the 3 line. Not bad.

Horston is shooting 41 percent from the 3-line on 22 shots. She, arguably, should be shooting more threes. We need to make more threes.

I think it may be hard for our role players to settle in and score because we don't really have a good, team-oriented offense. It's mostly either get the ball down low to Key or let Jackson and Horston do their thing. That makes it hard for role players to gain confidence. This has essentially been the UT offensive style since forever.

Exactly. It’s so frustrating not knowing why Kellie is holding Jackson back and for how long. We can’t afford any more losses.
When I saw that those three players weren't playing I almost decided not to watch the game. We were at a huge disadvantage cause JMO our talent level drops way off after about seven players and this was three of them. Not being able to play these games at home with a full team Horston out for Indiana and these three for Va Tech has just made things worse than they could've been.

JH shooting % was getting better, IMO directly due to having another major scoring threat on the floor. When JH feels pressure to do it all, such as Sunday, she is not a good shooter or finisher, as she herself has said.

Why would you call players "low IQ?" That is out of bounds and below the belt. You deserve all the ****** you're getting here for that. You owe those players an apology.
Because some of these upperclassmen have low basketball IQ when it comes to decision making. Hints why they have so many turnovers and continue to make freshmen mistakes. Maybe that is on the coaches. If the fans continue to think this is except-able then nothing is ever going to change.

I just liked a post from @turbovol and volnation asked me if I was sure I wanted to like that post. Pretty funny. Is that a new site feature?
Did you have @turbovol on ignore? ….errrrr, guess you wouldn’t have seen the post. That does seem strange. Almost sets the stage for competing factions. That seems etched in stone from the foundation of this hallowed establishment.

No, I generally don't put anyone on ignore. I've blocked some abusive people on Twitter but I'm cool with most everyone here.
