Game Thread: Samford v Lady Vols, Tues Nov 5th; Home-FCC; 6:30PM; SEC+ network:,,, Win 101-53

I don’t know what you mean. I just explained how.
No you didn't. You just asserted that it would not be a problem because we will take so many shots that the LVs can let he bigs have their bunnies."

I am actually confident that letting opposing bigs have their bunnies will not be CKC's plan and she will recognize that her defensive schemes will have to compensate for their lack of post size.

The reality is that it is unlikely that a senior player becomes something radically different.
True, generally. But it's rare that a senior gets to experience such a radically different system to adjust to. I think with only two games of sample size, there's still room to be optimistic that she'll be a relevant part of our depth. Maybe not one of the 2 sets of 5 players that go in together, but as a relevant 11th when the staff thinks she'd fit in. (or maybe late in the game where we're running out of gas)

You’re right.
Tennessee has three players that have started in the ACC at the post position last season.
They are adjusting to a new system.
The reality is they don’t lack size.
These posters are making up a false narrative about a lack of size because the system does not incorporate playing players on Tennessee rosters at 6’5, 6’4. 6’2, 6’2, 6’1, 6’0, and 6’1 in bunches together at the same time.
It’s basically one of their only areas to complain about 3 games into the season after scoring 332 points total and nearly setting a program record in the season opener in steals (27).

Geezus, a "false narrative." Thank you "ministry of information" for instructing us in "correct thought."

Part of a balanced analysis is looking at strengths and weaknesses. The LVs have looked good against CN and in their season opener against Samford. But these were badly overmatched opponents and it makes sense to consider where stronger teams will try to exploit potential points of weakness in the LVs,

You can rest assured that CKC is looking at game film in that exact light and not going, damn we are so good, nothing but smooth sailing from here on out!!!!'

I don't get this hypedefensive reaction to the idea that the LVs have stuff to work on, particularly since that has been CKC's mantra.

Got that definition of confirmation bias handy? 😉🤙🏼

…love the Orwellian references!

That is true. Also true is that the LV system will not stop teams who have size and skill in the post from exploiting that gap (or attempting to).

Maybe I am mistaken. Has this ceased to be a discussion board and now functions only as a place to post comments about the flawless and unbeatable genius of CKC?

Don't get me wrong, I like what I am seeing from the team but there are some potential problems in the mix.
I agree but would add a qualifier. It's the teams that have an excellent point guard (i.e., quick, good court vision, good assist:turnover ratio) and a good post player or two, that would likely cause us the most problems. Our past teams with the advantage at the post often had horrible games to the smaller athletic teams due to our guards not being able to consistently get the ball to the posts due to turnovers. I think our current team might be a nightmare for our previous teams due to this issue. Fortunately, there are only a few teams that have great point guard and post play. Those might be favored to beat us until we show we can beat those teams as well. If you look at all our transfers, Boyd, and Cooper, and then add another 7 that are equally athletic and at least as talented, starting next year the machine might be so good that we could start beating any type of team. If not, I love that CKC said that she always thought she would have to modify the system but hasn't opted to given that it has always worked so far. Perhaps she will have to adapt the system if teams like SC, UCONN, and LSU continue to beat us. I know I have been throwing more sunshine than usual lately, but my core being just feels so good about our coach. I haven't had that feeling about any coach of all the teams I follow (LVs and all LSU sport teams) since Pat.

I think one official game is too small a sample to be commenting on player production. I think this system will let different players show out in different games and at different times in the same game. Whitehorn, Cooper, Puckett, Spearman, Spear, & Spencer have all had times when they were shining, with some solid work from others as well. The rest of the team may have their bright spots in future games when their talents will be needed. Opponents won't know who to concentrate their attention on.

Agree 100%. A team would have to beat our press consistently to really utilize any advantage they might have in the post.

On that point, Cooper is going to be huge because she makes our press click. Boyd does well but Cooper is the beast of all beasts.

Having just seen the Samford game for the first time, I can see why all the questions posted about our defense, especially in that 1st quarter! Samford guards would be on their second step before we even shifted in that direction. I don't know if we were leg-tired starting out (guess we'll see Thursday night) or just not focusing... but our man-D looked as foot-slow as ever.

Just have to see Thursday night if they can remedy that.

Overall, I'd definitely say we're still in our "ugly" phase. If we hadn't have usually had the height advantage, that could have been a close game. Of course, we don't know to what extent our girls are playing down to their competition. But pretty sure CKC won't stand for that. In terms of development, she always seems to know where they are, what they need next, and what's coming.

They do have things to work on, but your analysis is so off the mark.

Yeah the honeymoon goes on full steam and over the top. But that's ok, people are excited. Might ease a tad when the road gets a little rocky.
Sure, I’m excited. But I also see all we need to work on. It’s the WAY some people in this forum express their opinions that is the problem. A kind of arrogance…and no excitement.

I don’t think the disdain was directed at you. It’s our bloviating sunshine pumper… 🤣🤣🤣🤙🏼

Seriously, you think the idea that teams like SC will try to utilize an advantage in the post is so "off the mark."

That was my only critical comment and you can't tolerate that ?

It may be a long season for you unless the LVs go undefeated.

I like a game that ends with Tennessee getting a "W" instead of an "L." 😅
There is that…

I’d allow it!
