a rise ball is moving up through the zone and when it finishes it's a ball...standing in the front more of a chance to pop it up....just my thoughts though

This makes sense. If the pitch is being thrown mostly out of the strike zone, then I can understand the benefit of standing as far back as possible... would hopefully give the batter more time to recognize the pitch and let it rise out of the zone. I was thinking more in terms of hitting the pitch.
