Gameday Is at Virginia Tech!

I'm about tired of ESPN referring to them as America's team. I mean, what happened was a major tragedy, but it has nothing to do with football.

Amen!!! Im not trying to be insensitive or anything, but what happened sucked and my heart goes out. But in all reality, what does this have to do with football? To me instead of gameday being a happy, joyful occasion it is just going to be a look back at the horror of what happened and be sort of depressing. I dont count on watching it.

Maybe they could squeeze in Michael Vick too while they're at it. Lord knows how much ESPN has done that this week. Oh the pain of VT!

Go ahead and let's name some things they'll show or talk about:

1. A piano will be playing as they show a montage of that days events.
2. The crazy killer, who doesn't deserve it, will receive more pub.
3. Mike Vick will be mentioned as another thing VA Tech has had to deal with these past few months.
4. Cal will be picked to beat Tennessee by Lee and Kirk.

Just so everyone knows - ESPN is not doing this for ratings, as the ratings won't be any higher nationwide than normal.

What is highlighted in RED is false. ESPN is definitely doing this for ratings.

What is highlighted in BLUE is true. Ratings will not get a measurable boost, in fact, most reasonable people may avoid the show like the plague.

A couple things.

1. You don't work for ESPN, so you have no idea. Neither do I, but I do have an idea ...

2. ... because I work in television, and ratings are something I work with all day, every day. If you and I know the ratings won't be effected, the people at ESPN know it, too.

3. ESPN is probably doing this because they have a higher view of their importance than the truth.

Only thing we get is the game last year made Tedford throw up and they played it on a video game and Cal won 41-38 in overtime. That's just pathetic...

Doesnt Surprise me, I really thought that they would be in Berkeley. With all that Tech has went through, it does make sense to go there. I dont like Virginia Tech.....Never have....Never will, but my heart does go out to them. They will be America's Team this year.

Kinda reminds me of when we (UT) played LSU after Katrina. Is East Carolina supposed to lay over, like the Washington Generals always did against the Globetrotters, so everybody can feel good. I think not.

yah, it was a tragedy of what happened at va tech. thoughts and prayers go out to the families. but they are driving a tragic event in the ground. After katrina, during the TN/LSU game thats all they talked about, more then the actual game. same last year when they opened the superdome back up. and it was saints and falcons. all they talked about was the tragedy. in that situation, the real tragedy is that they spent that much time and money to open a dome for athletes when there are people whos homes are still destroyed. i love football, but imo i belive that money should have been used to help those that need it, but then again look at the idiot mayor and liberal woman gov of the state.
