Oregon should start getting worried. Andersen is one of the best coaches in the NCAA.

Wisconsin doesn't have an assistant ranked higher than No. 77 in the nation in annual salary, according to the most recent USA Today database.

I think it's because they are coach in name only and Alvarez is coaching by proxy. I wouldn't be surprised if there is not a debriefing after every game where Alvarez is questioning every move of the coach, especially in a loss. I love the guy, but frankly he should never have retired if he wasn't ready to. Add that to the dismal pay to assistants and I can see a recipe for disaster. But at the end of the day, it is a paint by the numbers system and it works enough to win 75-80% of their games.

The playoff conspiracy theorists are likely drooling over this randomness.

Knowing that BA is on the playoff committee makes you wonder. I don't think it happened but that doesn't mean it's isn't possible. They have a lot of pride in their conference and being left out and the only one not in the playoffs could of been a factor. Think of these three weird scenerios 1) OSU needs a huge blowout to leap TCU for the playoff spot over a very good opponent. 2) Their long time coach/now AD is on the playoff committee 3) The coach leaves a good successful program in the middle of the night for a lesser program.

I think it's BA micromanaging these coaches but it is weird either way you look at it.

I'll throw out this conspiracy fodder. What if Alvarez gave Urban the play calls. He's a guy that would have access and his team would profit much more from OSU making it in.

Lol

I can't see a former coach doing that but I could see it being bantered.

Gotta be something wrong in Madison, two coaches running from what should be a great job. Very interesting. Good hire for OSU.

Someone said Oregon should be worried about OSU now. OSU is always a pain in the rear. They compete hard regardless of the talent up there.

Oregon just has to take care of business and keep getting better and that will take care of Oregon.

A program like that shouldn't lose coach's to osu. They have to fix the pay and admission problems or it will happen again. Also rumors that he wasn't a good fit there. It's gonna be hard to get elite players at osu.

What so many are missing is the admission standards at state are just as tough. In fact he only lost one recruit in his time at Wisconsin because of their standards. Secondly OSU has spent less in assistant salary them Wisconsin. That may change now. I think both of those reasons are bs. It's an Alvarez issue

It's my understanding from local news that Anderson contacted OSU and not the other way around. He sought out the job with the Beavs. Also, interesting is the "wage" issue, OSU has long been known as the lowest paying university in the PAC-12.

Riley was making around $1.7 mill at OSU. I'll be curious what the pay package looks like for Anderson.

I can see him wanting to get back on the West Coast and with a PAC-12 university.

I think Andersen is a fantastic coach, one of the better up and comers out there but I could see him also as a low pressure guy. They do exist and are not always mutually exclusive. Between Alvarez likely meddling and having to beat Meyer to win a CCG on the regular I am not shocked he might want to go to OSU and basically be the next Riley 2.0. He could make a lot of money with relatively low pressure. His ability to get more with less would serve him well there too.

I don't believe the wage issues was the reason to run. Nor the academics. I think it's more likely equal parts personality of Andersen and Alvarez.
