Just spoke truthfully about the butch jones hire and I think it speaks a lot to what some of us are worried about. I'll try to find a transcript.
Quotes I remember
"I don't know"
"Can Butch Jones build a program on his system? He hasn't done it before, he's won in programs others have built"
"Tennessee has made a decision to move towards a finesse style of play"

Finesse was his main talking point.. That's what the spread, read option is.. You need a Cam Newton to make that work.. You have to run the ball in this conference.. I don't care for that offensive philosophy..

Gary just said that he has no clue how Jones will do. He goes on to say that it's very interesting that Tennessee has decided to play "finesse" football, while LSU, Bama, Florida, and Georgia are all grinding out a line of scrimmage brand of football.

I am supportive of the Jones hire, but as a fan, and not a student of the game, these comments give me pause.

Thoughts?

So only Cam Newton?

Not Johnny Manziel, Connor Shaw, or Flynn? Only Newton.

Running the football and playing defense is what wins championships here..

Im pretty sure he said in his press conference he wanted to be pro style. He said he would build his scheme around personnel. Did i hear that wrong?

What does Gary think is so ground and pound about UGA being in the shotgun 60% of the time?

Correct, who thinks that his finesse style of play can win vs Florida Georgia LSU Alabama season in season out. This game is won at the line of scrimmage.

Coach Jones said they would adapt based on the QB. I do find it interesting that Pederson (sp) was his top qb recruit... and then signed with us instead.

so clearly we have the QB he wanted for his style of offense.

In the presser CBJ stated we wasn't running a "finesse" style. He said we would run the ball and we would be physical. He also stated we would be a pro style as well.

What was interesting about Danielson's interview was he said he didn't know anything about CBJ, but then goes on to spend 2 mins talking about aspects of his program that he weren't sure would work like he knew stuff about him...which is it???

Also, I think CBJ addressed his commitment to running the ball and playing tough defense, he drove that point home in my mind. That doesn't sound like finesse to me.

in Jones, press conference, he said we are going to play physical football, and he didn't want to use the word finesse, because of the negative connotations

nope. that's exactly what he said. He even said that at Cincy they went "drop back and pass" half the year bc that's what they had in their current QB
