Overall I hate Florida & I hope we smack them this year. I think it sucks that the east is so weak though. I am not going to complain if MuskChump stays for 2 more years.

If I was Florida, I would really think about making a change. With the other schools on the rise in your state, It wont be as easy of a climb back up. You will need to make a home run hire, like Butch Jones is for us. Your recruiting does not seem to pan out. Maybe all those stars are not very shinny after all....

please dont tell me you think al golden and miami are "on the rise"?

ucf sure but i think they might of hit their ceiling last yr dont think going to bcs games will be a regular thing

and fsu is suposed to be a top 10-15 team every yr in the acc hell miami is too al golden just sucks those teams being good doesnt hold us back from doing our thing in the sec

Butch Jones is a home run hire?

When most of VN was clamoring for Gruden, and hadn't so much as heard of Butch Jones before UT hired him?

Alrighty then.

The jury is still out on Butch.
Excellent a recruiting yes but on the field product is yet to be seen.

Miami is a sunken ship Al should have jumped when he had the chance. I truly believe he is a good coach just caught up in the wash.

and there is no excuse for FSU not to be in the top ten every year as back loaded with talent as they are. 4 and 5 stars just waiting their turn to shine.

Also, it would be interesting to know who would be on the short list for Florida if the season goes south.

LW? BigBoi?

If Butch Jones is a home run hire, he's a solo home run June, when his team is down by 8 runs.

Nick Saban and Urban Meyer are walk-off grand slam home runs in Game 7 of the World Series.

Saban yes.

Urban...hmm, maybe a walk-off 3 run HR, but he left y'all with a mess compared to the program he took over.

Maybe add in a question about pine tar

Saban > Meyer

Meyer wasn't completely unproven when hired by Florida but he was certainly not in the category as a "Grand Slam" hire either when he first came on board.

Did he improve greatly by year two? Obviously.

Most of us within the fan base believe we have the right man for the job but it's going to take time. It's a process and most of us understand that. However, there's always a few that will claim he's the equivalent of John Wooden of football. Take it with a grain of salt.

Are we really debating whether or not Urban Meyer is an elite college football coach?

Seriously?

"IS" he an elite coach now? Yes.

Was he a grand slam hire when UF hired him from Utah? No.

Respectfully disagree.

Meyer was on everyone's short list after 2004. Undefeated season at Utah, BCS bowl win, completely turned around Bowling Green before that.

Two national titles and a Heisman winner later we're disputing whether or not Meyer was a grand slam hire?

It's no more foolish for someone to call Butch a home-run hire than it is for you to keep shooting your impudent mouth off about how he's not.

For 6 seasons and 3 head coaches we've been trying to upset a Top 10 team, Butch did it in his first year with the most severely undermanned team we've put on the field in all 6 of those seasons. That alone is enough to give someone hope that maybe we've found our guy.

Even your crybaby ex-coach (who jumped ship at the first sign of a Tebow-less Florida program) couldn't have taken our 2013 squad to much better than a 5-7 season, so I'm not really sure how you can justify making fun of someone who thinks Butch was a very good hire.

Spikes was already there a long with the rest of that championship defense except Major Wright. He brought in Tebow and Harvin and rode them for 3 years.

I'll have to disagree with you. Yes he won national championships but you guys were just as scared as we are now after Ron Zook and no one believed him to be a home run hire. Did he prove other wise? Yes

Let's not forget in 2011 CBJ was drawing interest from both UCLA and UNC for their head coaching position.

I really don't understand any argument that says Urban Meyer isnt a top tier/elite coach. He may be a prick, but he wins everywhere he goes.

Big difference.

Nope.

Debating Saban vs Meyer - and it's not even close at this point.

I missed where anyone said Meyer was a better coach than Saban, only both were home run hires for their respective employers when they were hired.

You can argue there were doubts about whether or not Meyer's spread offense would work in the SEC...because there were plenty of doubters....but you can't argue Meyer wasn't one of the nation's most coveted coaching prospects before taking the UF job.

Butch Jones was not UT's first choice. He was a top candidate for the UNC and UCLA jobs, two historically mediocre to at best above average programs.

CBJ could very well make me eat crow. But you and I both know VN wasn't exactly all abuzz with excitement when he was hired. He was at best your third choice after Gruden and Strong.

As far as CBJ beating South Carolina, Ron Zook beat Nick Saban's 2003 national title LSU squad in Baton Rouge. Zook's working at a bank now.

Time will tell if Jones is a home run hire. I know this much, he's no worse than the trained monkey coaching at UF right now.

Spikes was a Meyer recruit.

He backed up Brandon Siler as a true freshman on the 2006 NC team, but he didn't see much action his freshman season.

Is Alex Anzalone going to be a thing this year

I seen him play one game here. He played against some of good competition here, which would not hold a candle to the Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc high school football teams. He was probably ranked higher by the recruiting services that he should have been. Will be a player at this level, but is not elite.
