Gators promote Steve Addazio as OC

Billy G isn't going anywhere from what I hear. He has expressed he will ONLY leave for a HC position. Addazio will get a HC opportunity within the next two years, then Billy G will take over the OC position on his way to a HC position somewhere in the future. BUT if you get him, you will be getting a good one. That's just the word on the street.
So you don't think he is ticked off right now?

Steele is the Defensive Head Coach. Kirby Smart is the DC. Steele may also be the LB coach.

Gonzo may not go anywhere but I know for sure that Kiffin will push for him. If he does get that visit with him that they had to reschedule, he very well could change his colors.

If he takes the OC job here we could help him expedite the process to get him a head coaching job in about 3-4 years rather than having to wait in Gainesville.

Not especially because we use a collective playcalling strategy and have been doing that the last two years. Billy G is our red zone game-planner and playcaller, for the most part. Besides, Kiffin has expressed he will call his own plays anyway right? Bringing in a spread offense OC in Kiffin's pro-style offense is a little far-fetched, IMO.

unless, of course, urban promoted addazio to oc because he knew gonzo wanted to come here...hmmmmmmm....

I think he will be about on the same timeline where he is now. Addazio leaves in 1 or 2, Billy G takes over for 1 or 2.

He could be a coordinator here in 2 weeks. He could be a coordinator at Florida in 2-3 years.

I agree. It also doesn't jive with the almost all-NFL coaching staff.

He is a great coach especially with WR's...

And he is also a tremendous recruiter.

Why would he want to go to a school where the head coach already is going to call the plays? He will be in the exact same scenario he is in now.

1) Because he was passed over for the title at UF.

2) It would be a big asset on his resume if it is for sure he wants to be a HC. OC and DC get head coaching interviews. Not position coaches.

I see your point, I just think Billy G will be locked in for one more year at FLA, then he will make his move accordingly. I can see why he would or would not make the move. I just think it is far-fetched at the present time. BUT I'm a Gator, what do I know?

I personally hope you are wrong. I would not under estimate the attitude he may have now, after being passed up by a fellow staffer. He may stay, but he will have to turn down an offer from Lane.

And I can see your point of view too.

Its just putting myself in his shoes...I think it would be a good move for his future.

With that said...I am interested to see it pan out. He's been with Meyer for some time now. And I don't care who you are, itd hurt to get passed over. Especially when it was someone else on the staff.

Yea, but I can understand that Addazio has 23 years of coaching experience compared to Billy G's 14. Meyer knows what he's doing. Like I said, Billy G gameplans and calls all the redzone plays and I assume this will continue. I hope he doesn't leave, BUT if he does I assume the main reason UT wants him is to help with the gamplan against the Gators. It will be interesting to see how this pans out as well.

What's the overall consensus down there about Addazio getting the job?

Dave Clawson was essentially the OC in name considering who we think was honestly calling the plays. He ended up at a pretty nice D-1 school after representing an offense that completely failed.

would gonzo guarentee us getting marlon brown?

He would put us in even better shape recruiting, not sure if individual players this year would be part of that. The future in recruiting would get a boost however.

The only player I can think of who said getting Gonzo would be a huge help would be Randall Carroll. He basically said he'd come here if we got him I believe.

Another thing that kiffin could say is that he could learn some D from Monte if he comes here. it could help him when he becomes a HC......Gonzo and O is who we better throw all the chips at.

I really hope we get this guy, but a lot of people (including myself) did not want us to hire trooper to be the OC in title just to keep him on staff. What makes Gonzo that much better than a Trooper? Sorry if this is a stupid point of view :hi:
