Geno on Parker's absence

linkster, you should read some of the comments about Geno in the Daily Mail article posted by T. J. above. Seems like it's not just this board that has some people who don't like him. He stepped on some conservative toes!

LOL Geno has stepped on a lot of toes over the years.

Jim, I've got no problem with people not liking Geno as long as they specify a factual reason. The people in the article comments aren't hating Geno, they are hating the quote. Let's forget that many of them are Trump supporters and have a bias. They at least are mad about something he is quoted as having said, even if they take it out of context. Several posters here are criticizing him for things they have no evidence ever happened. They all have 5th-hand stories about Geno that they embrace as truth simply because it feeds the fire of their hatred.

Every few weeks some LV fan feels the need to start some anti-Geno-anti-UConn thread here and is quickly joined by the same "I hate everything about UConn" cult. When I was 11 I hated Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers with a passion. Twice they had beaten my Giants in the championship game. But when my extreme fandom faded as I got older I recognized his genius and stopped wishing for his banishment to the darkest corner of hell.

* sets aside well-earned disgust for Geno from watching him over the years *

Kudos to Geno for stepping up for women's sports against the jaw-dropping misogyny so prevalent these days! (I'll leave off any other comments to avoid being whisked to the dreaded Politics forum.) I appreciate his blast.

* picks back up well-earned disgust and gets back to normal state *

I don't know of anybody here that doesn't think he's a successful coach. But what does that have to do with the subject at hand? Absolutely nothing. Oh by the way Parker belongs on the Olympic team and geno kept her off. That's the subject at hand linkster.

Who on this site has any first hand knowledge of the UConn coach other than observing his coaching? I'd guess none. And since they can't attack his record on the court they attack him personally, using whatever rumor or innuendo is convenient. Much the same way they respond to my posts not by discussing my comments but by attacking me personally.

I do. When he would come to Knoxville they would stay at the Marriott and I used to sit at the bar and watch and listen to him as he regaled the media. He was quite the storyteller. But when the media left he grew sullen and silent. I watched him berate arena personnel before a game once in TBA when the uconn radio guys had a "confrontation" with arena personnel. The radio announcers offense? They tried to run Mickey Dearstone out of his radio position. I stood about 30 feet away once as he yelled no f****** class at Pat Summitt and her staff at the conclusion of a ball game. I can tell you more stories about what's the point? You know they are true, but you'll act like they're not. Yeah, I know all about this guy linkster.

And oh by the way he kept Candace Parker off the Olympic team. She said so and he won't deny it. Do you think she would be on the team if he wanted her?

I have never attacked his record on the court and everything I posted here and above about him is fact not rumor.

There is an old saying where I come from, the guilty dog barks first. A variation of which is the guilty dog barks loudest. On this site when it comes to anything said about poor geno, linkster has been barking long and loud.

No,you're a missing link steer sycophant, just trying to protect him by downgrading others. Typical straw man argument. Ucon trolls abound on this board. Don't like what is said on this forum,go back to the boneyard.

Jeffie, There is a huge gulf between facts and inferences based on speculation. You and the rest of the "fans on the hill" that post here seem not to know the difference.

And I read your story about Geno. Here's one of my own about your team in the 1995 game at Connecticut. The LV's intentionally took the home end of the court for warm-ups and when they were asked to move to their end by the UConn players they arrogantly pointed to their uniform logo and refused because they were Tennessee and everyone should defer to them. Totally classless. UConn taught them some manners in the game.

Everything I posted I witnessed. I saw and heard it. It's not innuendo or inference or speculation. God are you willfully dense.

Hey linkster. Parker belongs on the Olympic team and was kept off by geno. Do you think she would be on the team if geno wanted her? Still unable to respond aren't you.

I must say, linkster, I am curious. Were you at that game and did you observe the recounted behavior, or are you reporting folklore as fact?

I must say, having been around the Lady Vol program since the time to which you refer, I find it hard to believe that Pat Summitt would have countenanced such behavior, nor do I believe that the young ladies who were on the team at that time, several of whom I knew personally, would have engaged in that behavior. But, I must admit, I was not at that game, so I have no personal knowledge. But, at least LVJeff specifically detailed that these were events that he had personally observed, something you did not do.

I believe that remark was aimed at Al Brown.

Nothing you witnessed has anything to do with the topic. And frankly all you witnessed was a human being being human. You may be shocked to hear a coach curse at a basketball game. I am not. You claim as fact that Geno unjustly kept Parker off the team. That presupposes that he had some motive. While I agree it's possible that you are right possibility doesn't mean fact. I have yet to hear a plausible motive and USA basketball has made it their policy not to comment on the selection process. So saying that he hasn't denied Parker's claim, while true on it's face, but in fact he is only obeying the policy. So the only people that know the facts aren't commenting except to say that Geno had no vote.

Look, I'm not saying Geno doesn't act like an ass at times. When he was younger his tantrums on the sidelines were embarrassing. But the basketball HOF is loaded with *******s. You make a huge leap from what you know and what you claim is proven fact with respect to the whole Parker issue
