George Will: Trump and his Congressional enablers must be voted out

I did not mean it as some sort of news that George Will dislikes him. I just think that so-called conservatives, especially Christian conservatives, should be appalled at Trump's behavior, especially of late.

Trump appears to me to be anti-Christian in pretty much every respect. His holding the Bible up like that was chilling.
Giving you a like here. I agree, Trump is a loud mouthed bully. As a Christian conservative I feel like I’m on an island.

Trump is claiming a right to the support of God and Christians, and in doing so repeatedly engages in words and actions that should offend them.

What are the words and actions that should offend them? He doesn’t have to be a devout Christian to support their views and what they stand for.

Can we say the same about Catholics voting for Joe Biden?
Biden isn’t running on catholic values.

Trump talks **** about everyone. Antagonizes the media. Uses twitter like a teenage girl. Then, when it comes at him his defenders lose their minds.

Compared to the alternative “your side” is offering yes they would.
Dude could turn red, sprout horns and a forked tail, and grow a goatee and the Bible-thumpers would still hump his leg.
Better than grasping the crotch of Joe who hasn’t done a damn thing in DC in 40 years. You guys don’t have a candidate that can defeat Trump, so they come out with Russian collusion, fear monger with Covid 19. Face it, you guys are gonna lose in 2020, just impeach him again.

Can't access the Washington Post due to their subscription model, but various media have picked it up. Conservative Icon George Will Urges November Sweep: Vote Out Trump, All GOP Enablers | HuffPost

The thesis is that Trump is unhinged and just when you think Trump has hit rock bottom, you learn there is no depth he won't sink to. Will also chastises the Republican party leadership for failure to reign him in.

Last night's display at the church I was hoping would cause some Republicans to really pull back in their support of him at revulsion to the full circumstances. Tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber bullets to clear the square so he could stand there and look menacing with a Bible in his hands was too much. I would have thought so, anyway.

That Trump invoked Christian symbols like that ... I don't know. There was something very sinister about it.
You made a thread over a Trump hater? One of the other 100 threads wouldn't have worked?

That photo op bothers me a lot. I try not to judge the faiths of others, because I don't know what's in anyone's heart. But, at the very least everyone who isn't actively trying to delude himself knows that Trump is, to put it kindly, biblically illiterate.

But to essentially assault other people for the sake of using the Church and the Word for propaganda is beyond the pale for me. He didn't go there to pray. He didn't go there to seek spiritual counsel. He went to play strong man using the Christian faith as some sort of support.

If you are a Christian, this should trouble you in a significant way.

It was such a transparent use of the Bible and a Church as props, seemingly invoking them as supportive of him, that bothered me the most.

Deal, but only if we can remove career politicians from DC as well. They are even more responsible for the need we find ourselves in today.

You'd probably have a heart attack if it was shot in sepia.

I confess I had to look that up. I assume you refer to the color/photography appearance.

Yeah, it was freaky as is. But add some other elements and it would have been even worse. There are some scary things going on and Trump seemingly encourages or at least allows it, arguably promotes it in many instances. But I leave it to other, more scholarly folks, to judge the religious significance, if any.

Basically every educated person on the right loved George Will until he opposed Trump. Now he's dismissed as a never-Trumper but he's a never-Trumper because of the things he's always stood for. Republicans decided they didn't care about responsible, limited government and policy over politics.

The Old Testament is full of situations where God used un-godly leaders to protect and even bless His people.
I can't see how God can be happy with the recent SCOTUS that ruled that attending Church is the same as attending a sporting event or a movie.....we get what we deserve.

You're going to ruin your physical health if you keep up this hate. Clearly, the mental health ship has sailed...bon voyage.

The problem with this analogy is we didn't need Trump to do the job that he's doing. Protect and bless, LOL? How is monumental debt protecting and blessing us? God can do basic accounting and it's insulting to think that God would pick an ungodly man to do a terrible job protecting and blessing His people. If God had any involvement, why not pick a guy who can actually fix America? Why settle for someone who is, at best, barely better than Hillary?

Most conservatives are willing to tolerate Trump's conduct because having him in office means having conservative judges appointed to the federal judiciary and the Supreme Court. George Will has been an exception to this, but that doesn't make him any less of a conservative than he has always been.

I rarely agree with LG, and I doubt that we are coming at this situation from the same point of view.

But I do hate this. I hate the elected leader of my country cynically using the faith I hold dear as a tool of propaganda.

Unfortunately my vote is cancelled out by the ignorant masses who prefer the status quo of blaming the other guy/gal in their politicians.
So why should they not be allowed to view for the person they want to represent them? That's my hold up about term limits is being told who I can't vote for
