George Will: Trump and his Congressional enablers must be voted out

Can't access the Washington Post due to their subscription model, but various media have picked it up. Conservative Icon George Will Urges November Sweep: Vote Out Trump, All GOP Enablers | HuffPost

The thesis is that Trump is unhinged and just when you think Trump has hit rock bottom, you learn there is no depth he won't sink to. Will also chastises the Republican party leadership for failure to reign him in.

Last night's display at the church I was hoping would cause some Republicans to really pull back in their support of him at revulsion to the full circumstances. Tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber bullets to clear the square so he could stand there and look menacing with a Bible in his hands was too much. I would have thought so, anyway.

That Trump invoked Christian symbols like that ... I don't know. There was something very sinister about it.

Trump is unhinged. Rioters are not?

I don't think that the theory that you have to adhere 100 % to your values is uniquely thrust on Christians. For example, when Islamic terrorism was in the news so much post 9/11 and really not too long ago here it was common for people on the board and Trump himself to complain that they did not think that US Muslims were doing enough to voice rejection of violence.

Similarly, I am saying that Christians SHOULD, in my opinion, be critical of Trump. Some are. But there seems to be this hesitation to actually move away from him. George Will has, though its not based on religion, its based on his perception that Trump does not embody conservative ideals.

And yes, there is an element of voter shaming to what I'm saying. But that's true of George Will, too. He is saying that real conservatives, real Republicans, would reject Trump and that those that go in lock step with him and defend him are betraying their ideals. I think real Christians, truly religious people of any stripe, should reject Trump.

Its broader than any one criteria for me. I think people should be ashamed they voted for Trump the first time and should clear their consciences by vowing to vote against him this time, even if Biden wins. I say this not out of any particular desire to see Biden win. I say it because Trump is SO awful a human being, SO toxic to the country, SO fraudulent and putrid of character that getting rid of him should be worth it even to Republicans such as to cause them to, at a minimum, not vote.
Like I said earlier. You're not so much taking issue with the fact that they're not voting all of their values. You're taking issue that they're not voting all of your values. (Mean talk bad!) Then you're vote-shaming them because of it. It's a petty look of someone that doesn't want to argue policies and admits they don't support everything their candidates do or say.

"Then just don't vote" from the "voter ID and census questions suppress the vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" crowd. And you have the audacity to accuse of hypocrisy. lol

Trump doesn't have enough knowledge or awareness to be anything, much less a Nazi. He's brushed up against Nazism out of sheer ignorance.

I doubt that any candidate shares the entirety of the values of a given voter. I suppose its up to each one to prioritize what is most important to them. To me, a Christian should be so appalled by Trump generally, and his actions of late in particular, that its not worth the smug but transient satisfaction of watching him chastise the mainstream media.

Part of that is because so many Christians -- really, people of all religious faiths -- bask in the righteousness and the eternal nature of what they say they believe in. That it is THE priority in their lives, that they would die for it, that it is their soul forever at issue.

And yet, when we have such an obvious charlatan forcing the military on states that do not call for it and holding up the Bible like he just won it at a carnival game , meh, that's okay because he's bypassing Dem governors we don't like? That's worth the rest of his chicanery?

If my pointing out the enormous disconnect between what so many Christians SAY, versus what they then do when it comes to Trump and what they put up with constantly from him, then yes, I am vote shaming and will continue to do so.

If you are a gator fan and voted for Hillary , you can’t vote shame anyone .

I voted for her not because I had a strong preference for her, but because, like the MAJORITY of American who voted, I saw Trump for the fraud he is. And he has proven us right every day.

It didn’t matter why , all you did is decided to take a bite of that sh!t sammich instead of this one . As for the other .. there’s no excuse to acceptable for being a gator fan .

You mean that we are all sinners, desperately in need of forgiveness, that we will be sinners until we get a new body, that we will not have a worthy leader until Jesus rules the world? Is that what you mean? That's the gospel, the most dearly held message of the Christian faith.

Or that we are to hold the church to the standard of seeking holiness, and not unbelievers, as Paul wrote the Corinthians? That's not explicitly part of the gospel, but a dearly held belief.

There you go again, holding Christians responsible to identify with every action from their political leader, which you don;t seem to hold yourself to.

Like I said, you want everyone to value "nice" and "inclusive" at the same level you do. Some don't. Some are willing to put up with some things to get others, just like you do. You just want to stoop to voter-shaming while out of the other side of your mouth fighting against voter ID and census questions that might discourage the people that agree with you from voting.

It gets doubly laughable and hypocritical when you accuse us of wanting to form a theocracy, and then attack us because we don't want to form a theocracy. We just want to participate the best we can in a flawed democratic republic, and vote our consciences as best we can, between the choices we're given.

You're shallow and transparent. One might even say, shameful.
