Georgia @ Tennessee Game 3 Thread - 2PM - SECN+

Seeing the improvements Auburn and Mizzou have made with coaching changes hopefully the same can be said for our baseball program after this season

Should be fired tomorrow and let an asst interim the rest of season. Would be a statement by Currie that he values baseball.

I agree.

Not one game more.

Season's over. Ain't making a regional and that's been decided and it's barely April.

No use pretending.

But this guy was "the guy" when we got him. WTF is it with UT athletics these days? I'm beginning to think the curse is real.

Does Walters St. still have a great program? If so, hire that guy and have Walters promote his successor and create an automatic pipeline of JUCO's to UT.

Looked good on paper but the truth is playing in the big west conference is light years behind the SEC in baseball. I don't know if Dave ever understood the caliber of player it takes to win here or that the small ball west coast bs doesn't fly in the south. I know he had the CWS runs but those would appear now to be just blind luck. This league will chew you up and spit you out.

Yep Auburn figured that out after the bad coaches they brought in after Baird...went and got an assistant SEC coach look at them now

We are looking at not winning 5 games in the SEC with how we are playing at the moment.

That was his comment to someone saying we had unlimited resources.

If Delmonico can win here then there's someone else out there who can do the same

Tennessee has the resources to offer a competitive salary to a competent coach. I'm willing to bet they didn't get Serrano with a bargain basement contract.

The difficult part is, and many have said this for a while, the SEC is arguably stronger in baseball than in any other sport the SEC participates in. So, it's a tough gig.

However, it can be done and I'll leave it at that

Tennessee is and always has been one of the toughest jobs in the league. Delmonico overcame it for a while with the excitement of a new facility and an aggressive brand of baseball, but the whole game has changed since he left. The new transfer rule, APR, rise of Vanderbilt's program and mandatory scholarship minimums make it more difficult.

What Thompson did at Auburn was hire a great staff. He knew the league inside and out and what was necessary to win. I think at this point an argument can be made that, despite the resume of success, CDS was the wrong hire because he had very little idea what it took to be successful in this league.

I am going to Hoover, as always. VOLS likely won't be there unless a miracle happens: like our bullpen can get anybody OUT! :ermm:

I try to care but college baseball is pathetic. Partial scholarships and much, if not most of the elite players go pro right out of highschool.

Not true.

Half of the first round picks in last year's draft were college players - 17 of 34 - including 3 players who played high school baseball in the state of Tennessee.

Time to clean house!!! If Currie has any guts at all he fires CDS tomorrow. Pathetic!!!!

Being a Tennessee baseball fan is as sad as football!!! Went to the auburn game yesterday and watched the auburn coaching staff win them the game with coaching decisions... 2 outs runners on first and second and the coaching staff subs in a freshmen that hasn't played all game.. but can smash the ball!!!! Kid steps up and hits a 3 run bomb to win!!!

There was no reason to bring Dave back on a one year lame duck extension after last season. This should have been handled a year or two ago. It doesn't take 6 years to build a baseball program no matter how bad it has been.

Sure there was, Dave Hart knew he was being forced out (news flash folks, he didn't retire willingly) so he mirked the waters the best he could on his way out. I know some of you want Serrano gone yesterday but it's not going to fix anything any quicker. Let him finish out the year, Currie needs to start getting a list together and putting out feelers.
