Get some people on the phone!

I'll take the high horse approach to this issue. If all these players who say they have UT high on their list have not been contacted or have not re-connected with the new staff, what is stopping them from taking the initiative and calling CDD or his staff? What about their coaches? A simple phone call from a player's coach, parent, guardian, whatever to the UT staff expressing interest in attending junior day or an unofficial visit or "what's up with my scholly offer" might help. Or maybe we are just not interested in them any longer. I guess I am just sick of the "they aren't showing me love" mentality that has been so prevalent in the last few years.

I would love to make contact for my son with someone in Knoxville but getting a phone number or being able to talk to someone is like breaking in to Fort Knox.

I have a HS Jr that would love to be there for Jr Day. He has played mainly O line. 6'4" weighs 280, max bench 365, max squat 535, 4.09 GPA, 26 ACT but we can't get anyone to even look at him. We are in a small rural area and he has had no exposure to anyone. Can anyone here point us in the right direction? This kid wants to play some football. Thanks

TENNESSEE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE - Fans

That site gives a number and email link to request a brochure for the camp. I'm sure you could ask about getting you kid to junior day.

Best of luck

I would agree with most on here: we need to be patient with the staff. They have not likely had time to do anything except save the 2010 recruiting class until just recently. Now, they have to start getting prepared for Spring practice among other things.

While it would have been advantageous to get out to a fast start, it is probably best to focus on Junior day preparations, and then to go from there.

Obviously, if the recruiting season becomes a bust, it will be hard not to look back and say that they should have gotten a quicker start, but for now I see no reason to think any thing other than good of this staff.

We're about 11 and a half months away from NSD. I'm not too worried about anything involved with recruiting at this point. I just want to see how well our current players do in spring ball next month and through April.

Unfortunately, with that type type of attitude, we will be destroyed in recruiting again.

While I understand we have to be patient we can not afford to get behind the likes of Alabama and Georgia in recruiting these players. I have confidence in this staff but they do need to move fairly quickly atleast when it comes to in state kids.

Actually, believe it or not, the attitude of the fans toward off season recruiting news has little to do with the staff's recruiting effectiveness.... Shocking I'm sure..,

There are actually people here that can help and have some "real" contacts within the AD and football program. Sabbanochio may not be able to help himself but might be able and willing to point you in the right direction.

However, if the kid is dead set on UT then make sure he gets into one of the summer camps and shows up prepared.

Revis and Schofield were discovered in a camp a couple of years ago when neither was getting any publicity. Many here mocked that Schofield's only offers were from Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern... but by the time all was said and done he rated 4*.

The kid just needs contact with someone who can get some eyes on him. He just wants a chance to show them what he's got......he'll take care of the rest. Getting a look seems like the most difficult part. We've sent his film to rivals and signed him up twice there but whoever is in charge of adding players to that site only seems to add high profile, widely known players or players who have connections. He doesn't fall into those categories.

He is scheduled to begin working out at the D1 Training facility in Nashville in a couple of weeks working 1 on 1 with a trainer there to help him improve his agility, footwork and speed. He will also participate in a couple of combines this spring and all the camps we can find/afford. Hopefully someone will notice him and give him a call. I don't know what more to do. If you can't get contact info to at least talk to someone and let them know he's out there where do you turn?

Do schools like UT really not look at players at all unless they are high profile or have connections? Seems they may be missing a lot of talented good kids if that's the case. Thanks

pretty sure most the guys we get don't have "connections". Has anyone given you any feedback on their evaluation?

Per the NCAA...

Quiet Period: The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents off the college's campus. The coach may not watch you play or visit your high school during this period. You and your parents may visit a college campus during this time. A coach may write or telephone you or your parents during this time.

Yea, Hubbs was wrong about Dooley not being able to call recruits. It appears Dooley just doesn't want him. I think that is a mistake.

Everyone on Volnation..including myself has been under the impression that recruits can't be called...lol..

and I agree... a converted TE to OL who was dead set on UT with 25 open spots for 2011... def. should be wearing orange...

Kid wants to play te. I think the staff projects him at oline. Any delay (as slight as it was) may have been due to this fact. Shockingly, we may have coaches that want to be honest with recruits...

Just read on TOS about that... wherever he signs (if its a big time program) he will end up at OL...

Of all the criticisms one can make about Kiffin, dishonesty with recruits certainly wasn't one of them. Just ask Tajh Boyd, Bryce Petty, Damien Thigpen, et al.

If he works out at D1 you will know soon enough if he has what it takes. If he does the staff will know about him soon enough. The guy that runs D1 in Cool Springs (Bartholomew) played FB at UT and his brother is on the team currently.

There's no guarantee the old staff would have ever won a championship. It's just that they would have improved our chances through recruiting.

As for MacLain, it's interesting to note that UT was the only SEC school to offer. Maybe somebody knows something we don't...

+1. We all know UT is a great school but to get the top talent we have to pry kids from colleges they grew up loving. We absolutely have to have good recruiters.

Its still early. Many kids who will end up in the SEC have not gotten SEC offers yet.
