Getting away from cable.

I tried Sling for a little while and it was so buggy and slow it was hard to enjoy anything I was watching. Granted, that was several years ago so I'm sure it's improved dramatically. We've been using Hulu Live for several years now and are generally happy with it. One of the great things about it is that it's bundled with ESPN+ so second and third tier games that I might want to see are all there within the Hulu app without having to switch out to the ESPN app. You also get the Big Ten Network and CBS Sports network which sometimes aren't included with other services. It's not perfect but for us it's been fine and I haven't come across anything that's a better value in terms of what you get for basically the same amount of money you'd pay for other services.

Might be a dumb question...as far as Hulu (not Hulu Live), does anyone know why they won't stream games on ABC the next day like that do.with all their other network.content?

I use a Roku to stream but interested if anyone is using the TiVo streamer and if they like it better. Does it give you access to TiVo Online?

I like it too but in a couple years it'll be as expensive as cable or dish/direct was
Yeah, start out with a great price, then incrementally raise it until there is not much difference in the price of a streaming service and cable. I gotta feeling it's gonna go up more if the actors get their way. Apparently they don't make much from their past movies or TV shows that are streamed.

google has lost tons of $$ on YTTV....at this point, it's either raise prices further or throw in the towel. With them winning the NFL package, it's obvious they aren't throwing in the towel, so look for a stream of steady price increases.

I am going to have to agree with you. I tried YTTV in its infancy, and it was like $39.00 per month, but there were some issues with it, so I went back to Comcast. Xfinity and Comcast kept raising the cost until I finally went back to YTTV but by then the cost was $69.00 per month, and the earlier problems had been resolved. It's now $80.00 per month and I don't see it not continue to increase until it's comparable to cable.

If you pay for the streaming services, it's pretty close to the price cable had gotten to if you factor in what you pay for internet. Not much saving anymore unfortunately. If people are finding ways around it, they must be finding "free" sites on the internet to stream without paying for it...

Not sure you can really factor in internet as an "extra cost" in 2023, but you're right that it's inevitable that streaming will approach the cost of being hardwired eventually if it hasn't already. Same problem as before . . . the channels are all packaged up rather than a la carte, so you end up subsidizing crap you'll never watch.

Agreed. I remember when Hulu's Live TV was like $40 and it was a great deal all-in-one. I think it's around $79.99 now and also all the networks have jumped into the game and split out into separate services. It's a racket.

what do you use?
For sports I use strikeout.ws, wiziwig and lots more choices. For movies and TV shows I use vumoo.to. Just google sites like putlocker or stream2watch and they will give you a list of sites to choose from. I get youtube and my beloved volnation also. If you want something besides mainstream bs on the news front you can go to rumble.com. Msg me if you need any help.

Youtube TV has the best user interface. We have subscribed to it and Hulu. Right now we have Hulu live plus Disney+ and ESPN+ cheaper than YTTV since YTTV went up. Also UHD costs extra on YT.
Getting the ESPN+ free is the big benefit of Hulu w/live TV.

Figure I should be pretty much set for any UT game possibilities.

So far, I am not displeased with the service. An occasional lag or two, but no major complaints so far.

For what it's worth

I was an early enrollee for YouTube TV and have few regrets.
Great DVR
Only rarely do I have too many streams

The BallySports is the only drawback but I only worry about that for Preds. - I don't watch the Braves. And that problem is caused by Diamond Sports Group and not the streamers. To be honest, I use someone's cable logon when I want to watch the TERRIBLE BallySports app.

I've had YTTV longer than I've had any other service including Dish, Direct, and cable.

SundayTicket moving to YTTV is a big deal as well.

The internet/streaming sucks where I am, so I always go back to Dish or DirecTV once football season begins. The worst thing is to be watching a game while live tv is β€œbuffering.”

How's your cell coverage? I had same spotty internet issue but changed to Verizon Home Internet and it's great. Wth Dish or DirecTV I lose signal every time it rained.

Dropping the cable deal πŸ˜‚ Hey in your opinion what is the best tv app to watch Tennessee football this season. Go Big Orange 🍊 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊

i dropped all my streaming services, i'll pick them before football season. I did use FUBO during the trial period and they offer a lot of sports channels. i believe the video quality is very nice. Hulu has a lot of movie options too but i believe it might be more expensive that FUBO. I also used youtube TV which was decent.

SlingTV has a deal where you get the Orange package plus Sports Extra for $199 for five months. That'll take you through the college football season for $40 a month. Best deal I'm aware of at the moment.
