To continue to lay the Trump election facts off as TDS says it all. Those that do so have elected representatives that are equally inept and with 43 Republican states enacting voter disenfrichising rules or laws speaks to what a shi! hole country Trump transformed the USA into

It's time for common sense vote reform. We're not against people voting; we just want people voting responsibly.

Restate. The Republican Party in 43 states is attempting to minimize the opportunities of minorities to vote. Can’t win the popular vote? No problem minimize the ability of those you know will vote against you to vote at all. The Right’s been doing that for years

So has the left. Reeducation camps, IRS, DC national guard. Each side punishes the other.

It's why we need to dump party politics all together.

Good luck with dumping party politics. What we need to dump is the notion that one person’s voting right has more “right’s” and privilege than another voter’s rights. We need to get rid of “self righteous superiority” that says that class of persons should not vote.We have as much chance of achieving that as we do in dumping party politics. Zero chance.

You mean they are requiring the similar rules for voting that your side considers reasonable for gun ownership? Bear in mind that both are rights. Proving you are eligible to vote and proving at the polls that you are who you say you are with photo ID is sane and reasonable policy and far less intrusive than what transpires when buying a gun. Nobody has to show they are reasonably sane to vote.

I wanted to donate blood today. Couldn't do it because I didn't have my wallet with me and my ID. But it is too much to ask 'minorities' to show a ****ing ID to vote. Unbelievable.

I think the issue is and continues to be your definition of “voting responsibly”
Society will decide what responsible voting is or is not. Includes, but not limited to, campaigning for candidates, behavior at polls, a background investigation of voters, and even exit polling.
Understand, we aren't prohibiting your vote. Just implementing some common sense safeguards.

Imagine thinking minorities are too stupid to get an ID they use for literally everything else

As soon as people figured out they could enrich themselves by voting the system was broke. That's both parties, that's all income levels, all races, creeds etc.

It's why I hate democracy. It's not about what's best or what's good. But what's popular. We have had cake and ice cream for dinner for too long.

The founding fathers thought they had a way around that problem. It was maybe a good plan at the time, but they underestimated the greed and corruptness of later politicians. Our politicians are perfectly content to trade their souls and access to the treasury for another term.

Imo the issue is compounded by the government trying to be democratic at multiple stages.

1. Elections.
2. Bill's.
3. Appointments

It removes any honesty from any one vote by the time you run it through the two other steps.

One of the biggest improvements we could make would be to force congress to limit each piece of legislation to one item - no attachments or modifiers. A simple, concisely written document with intent, scope, and the legislation itself - signed by the author. You vote on it, up or down, and each voter is on record - then you can legitimately call out someone who voted for or against and expect an answer on his/her position. That doesn't get rid of the problem about trading votes for one thing to get votes or support for something else, but it can get a member of congress voted out of office more easily by the electorate when they can't hide. It's also harder to hide a payback for election bribes (contributions).

The other part is the revolving door. Some recent articles showed obama era cronies back in the biden WH, and they have made millions in the interim. There are plenty of laws restricting military and other government employees from lucrative positions relating to their government work; that should apply across the board - and apply to speeches, books, etc that simply trade on their past (and potential future) influence. We've coddled these crooks for too long.
