Gillispie in the news again

I guess the law enforcement officials in the Bluegrass State aren't giving him a free pass anymore now that he's decided to sue UK.

If you're the coach, you get a ride home. But if you're the FORMER coach, not only do you get busted, but video of the arrest goes up on the net the next morning. Awesome how that works.

Just when I started having an once of trust in what hat has to say, this happens. Why the guy supports this clown yet calls Pearl A CLOWN is beyond me

What the guy does off the court does not change his coaching capabilities. Hat thinks he's a good basketball coach. He's proven he's a good drinker. I've known and witnessed both.

Well, that's the point. Why should any of that have any effect on the way that the Lexington cops treat him? The way justice is served isn't supposed to revolve around your relationship to Big Blue.

Gillispie is beyond stupid for drinking and driving in Kentucky, though. Man.

Unless he stops drinking he will not reach any of his career goals. I think the guy would be a great coach. I think he self medicating his social anxiety.

He can drink all he wants and still have a great career as a coach. He just needs to learn to take a damn cab.

Part of being a serious drinker is knowing ahead of time when you're going to be drinking (and let's face it, you always know) and making transportation plans that don't involve driving yourself. It's entirely a mental thing. If you decide ahead of time that you're going to cab home, then you cheerfully take the cab home, no problem. What gets you in trouble is not making that decision beforehand, and then you start thinking, "I'm fine, I'm fine, it would be a pain in the ass to have to get up in the morning and come all the way back down here to get my car," and then the next thing you know your face is on ESPN.com and your career is on the rocks because you didn't spend a lousy twenty bucks on a cab ride. If you can't handle that planning process, then you can't handle alcohol.

I saw this on the local news this morning. He told the police that he and his buddy had just finished playing a round of golf. At 2:45 in the morning?

Yeah, that's a pretty stupid thing to say, but not really much different from what every other hammered driver says, "I had two beers."

I understand the point. From what I've heard and seen I think that it actually affects everything he does. His social interactions, his ability to keep a schedule etc.

I'm not a prude by any stretch, but I fear he has come to the place of no return. For Gillespie it may not be as simple as finding a driver.

I've known several functioning alcoholics in my lifetime. Eventually they get to the point that they can no longer maintain.

Kentucky saw the writing on the wall and I am glad this guy is not coaching anybody right now... If he judge whether or not to get behind the wheel of a car while drunk, he has no business coaching kids and being a role model.

Eh...I'm guessing his record has more to do with any animosity than the lawsuit. My estimation is that 97% of the state is oblivious to the fact that he is in legal action against the school, while 99.8% are fully aware that he missed the NCAA tournament last year.

Nice. That gave me a laugh.

And to give Gillispie some credit, I ALSO have finished a round of golf and then went straight to the bar and didn't leave until 2:30am. But I did not drive.:)

I can't figure out why the guy is still hanging out in KY so much. They say its a great place to live, but damn. I would be looking for some fresh scenery.

Given the history with Kentucky and Eddie Sutton, I'm shocked the Cats went down that road in the first place. You're going to give a guy, with a history of sipping the bottle, the keys to a storied program like Kentucky basketball? Shame on Mitch Barnhart.

According to WLEX news, Billy G was in town for an arbitration hearing regarding his case against the university.

The puzzling thing is the fact he was pulled over in a white Mercedes with Texas plates. Are we to assume he drove all the way from Texas? That's a frightening thought in and of itself.

Depends on who you are, I guess. There are things that are disgusting and morally reprehensible, and if you have ever been on the receiving end of infidelity you would probably say Pitino's deed is worse. If on the other hand, one of your family members was killed by a drunk driver, then what BG did is worse. Perspective is everything.

I don't think you dismiss bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior. Pitino's sin was against his family and his marriage. Billy G could have killed somebody. Personally, if I'm driving my family down the road, I'd sure as heck would rather see Rick Pitino driving in the other lane than Billy Gillispie. Especially at night.
