Let's give our new coach some credit. After all he deserves it. He is the one that set up to the plate Knowing the following:

1. The Fanbase would be somewhat divided regarding his hiring.

2. The SEC is the toughest conference to win/play/compete in for any championship division or SEC or National.

3. Recruiting is always a downside in the state and UT has a tough Draw.

4. It is a major or total rebuild project.

5. Mediocrity is unacceptable.

6. The defense absolutely sucked and the players We're not coached last three years.

7. With a few exceptions, players are not SEC Caliber.

8. In recruiting, he will have a lot around to make up and will always have to recruit nationwide.

9. Several Star players would bolt to the NFL forgoing their senior season....

10. Easily could do more damage than good to a coaching career.

Just a few Good reasons, To not come to Tennessee to Coach.

Yet he is here knowing he was 3rd or lower choice. Willing to piece together a team to compete in this conference and knowing he will have to win the players and future Vols over. The fan base will Follow.

This is what leadership is all about. It is what winners do. They embrace the challenges and do not walk or run away from them.

Probably my 5th choice, But Coach Jones grows on you... The enthusiasm he brings to the job Will be there for a long
Time...

No excuses no blaming others he has accepted responsibility to do this job...

He knew the challenge when he took the job and he will follow through on his word or die trying....

We will not see the unpreparedness that we have seen the last three years with Coach Jones at the helm.

Give him a chance and let him do his job And do not Prejudge him...

Personally I'm glad the search is over and we can move forward to a new tomorrow in Volunteer Football history...

So get behind him...he wants to be here and wants to restore What many of us view as a precious commodity.

He's willing to accept a job at one of the winningest programs in the country with top-notch facilities and unlimited resources.

What a hero. We're so lucky he decided we were good enough for him.

Winningest in the country??? Are we even at .500 the past 5 years??? I honestly don't think so... That's all the matters to the people that matter...

Top-notch facilities, I'll give you that one...

Tennessee has extremely limited resources in the most important area: in-state talent... Compound that with the fact that our biggest rivals and neighbors have some of the best in-state talent in the country... Yeah, real easy job, he definitely deserves your animosity...

No one cares about our record. It's about facilities and commitment to football (finances). If you want to act like we're on par with Ole Miss, go ahead. But that's the #1 problem with this fanbase right now. "We're not worthy of Butch Jones!" You cannot be serious.

Don't kid yourself. There were plenty of good coaches interested in our job. I feel like I'm in 2010 all over again.

Yes CBJ was probably my 5th choice, but Those interested did not step up to the plate..... Or did not call..... Or did not qualify....

Do you refuse to move forward or do you choose to do so By looking in the past.....

Someone said we're not worthy??? If it was said, I didn't read it here... Might have just missed it though... All I said was he didn't deserve your animosity, which isn't even close to "we don't deserve him" talk...

"We should love him because he was willing to take our horrible job!!" is the same thing.

Who said that??? I see you put it in quotation marks... Link???

If you haven't seen things like "I think he's a great hire because he WANTED THIS JOB!" "I'm behind him mainly because he wanted the job!" "He's a great hire because he WANTED the job!" all over this site in the past few days, you haven't been paying attention.

Edit: Sorry. I see I'm late to the party again.

Well fan is short for fanatic, people will say/read/interpret things to enforce their own confirmation biases... They're miopic, and they exist on both sides of the Jones fence...

Butch Jones is not a saint or humanitarian because he took a job at a respected SEC school... Conversely, he's not a bum or scrub because he was UT's third public offer and coached at a Big East school... If your disposition to Coach Jones is grounded in either of those sides, you're blind to facts and reality, and also have an agenda...

This was my point.

But my opinion on Jones has nothing to do with either of those. I hope he does well, but based on his history, he won't.

Source???

His 1-12 record against teams better than 7-5, with the best team in the conference (and the 1 was against a MAC team). That's like taking over Alabama right now, when they're top dogs, and losing to Florida/Georgia/South Carolina/LSU/A&M/Mississippi State--all of them--every single time you play them. Only instead of Bama, he gets Tennessee.

Or his 12-9 Big East record. That's a good source too.
