Give CBJ Some Credit

You would love for CBJ to do well. And if Coach does well, then the AD did well to hire him. It's all to be determined. So why spend the next 9 months second guessing the decision before he's even coached a game? Seems like you're taking away your ability to enjoy any success we might have.

This is not at all true. It would mean that Hart's gamble paid off, but Hart shouldn't have been gambling on a guy like Butch Jones in the first place.

All coaching hires are a gamble. Nobody is guaranteed to be the best. I know you think butch is a low % bet, but it's a bet that's been placed. The wheel is spinning, just wait and see where it lands. If it pays off you get no cut. If it doesn't pay off nobody gets a cut. That's the position I feel you are taking.

They're not all gambles to the same degree. My position is that Hart and Cheek screwed this up no matter what kind of coach Jones turns out to be. I hope he's a good one, but I certainly have my doubts.

I love all the insider's we have here who know all about the inner workings and should be able to tell us all the info from here on out we could ever desire to hear. What will our record be next year, if it isn't good then why even play the games, how about the financial details of the program without token 'if you don't think ..... then your not living in reality" comments. Please do tell, what good are you doing by posting over and over how much you dislike this hire and get over yourself and have a better life. Especially since those of us happy to know we are moving in a hopefully better direction must have you so perplexed by the notion that God forbid we move forward and accept those things that we cannot do one thing about. Oh wait, I guess we could, we could not watch the games , buy the tickets, buy the merchandise and vote with our wallets so that we have less money and hurt the program, this seems to be the only answer for some of you. Well I am gonna do the same thing I have done since before Majors time here and thats wake up put my UT hat on , live my life, wait for the season and support the hell out of the team and university I love. Oh and GBO!!!!!! thank you.

This is a dumb analogy. Its suggesting you might as well hire any coach ever and no one should care. Hell, theyre all just gambles anyway.

The most interesting thing in this thread is someone thinks we should have hired Butch Davis. Butch "living off of old accomplishments like Fulmer" Davis.

What was UNC's record before Davis got there? What was their record in his final season there?

Or, maybe you're calling 2010 events "old." Okay.

It really is a dumb analogy. I was just speaking to the other poster's point of calling it a gamble. I tried to convey my point in terms that were not brought up by me. Somewhat of a stretch, I know. Hart hired the guy he felt would give UT's football program the best chance of being successful, not randomly.

Nothing about his career suggests that he can take a bad team and lead it to the top. Nothing about his career suggests that he can beat teams that are more talented than his own. If he does either or both of those things here, Hart will have gotten extremely lucky.

Ok. I agree with you on that. Now what do we do? Do we spread the word and try to get the guy fired before he has the chance to prove himself? Or should we wait and see if he can actually turn it around?

At the end of the day we wait and see. It isnt Butch Jones fault Dave Hart botched the whole process.

People just want to vent, speculate and so on.

My point is kind of what Specs said. I don't fault Jones at all. I just hate that Cheek and Hart keep getting away with this because we have fans who come away cheering after they spit in our faces.

Ha. Then I think we all mostly agree. Yeah if Jones doesn't work out, then fire Hart and look at Cheek too. But I think Hart values his job and has UT's best interests in mind and I believe HE made the best decision to HIS knowledge.

I wouldnt count beating a team with a losing record when you have a top 25 team and one of the best QBs in CFB history as a real notable achievement. Just for the record, that QB was recruited by Brian Kelly.

For all the arguments on these threads, two things remain:

1. Butch Jones IS our coach.....like it or not.

2. Butch Jones IS somewhat of a gamble.. He twice inherited record breaking teams from Brian Kelly, and has never had to "rebuild" any team on his own merit, especially not an SEC team.
