glad we fired Holly for this

I agree. They one thing they haven't tried is benching her for extended periods, and it's time. I hate to pile on, but she's killing the team when she's on the floor. You are starting to see the frustration with her teammates (particularly Davis) as she continues to make the same ridiculous mistakes over and over. It's killing team morale...
Solar post like these

I think we're all Jordan believers - no one is happy with what has happened to her. Not sure I understand the rest, don't recall Rick doing a deep dive on the difference btw consider and think what they've done. Depends on what your definition of IS is I guess.

That's probably true, generally players wanna play. But there is also a chance less minutes might be a big relief to her. There have to be times making the same mistakes over and over in public is just painful for her. No doubt she desperately wants to get better and does not want to hurt the team's chances. Maybe she's ready to semi-shut down for the season.

OTOH, maybe she's doubling her determination, seeing the upcoming post season (whatever that may be) as a clean slate. In three or four weeks, when the LVs are making a magical Cinderella run with JH shining, we'll be seeing our own gloomy posts and being told "that didn't age well". Dream scenario, with no available evidence to predict it will happen, but hey, even I can be hopeful.

Not directing this at you glv98 (just a general observation), people are getting too focused on Jordan (I will explain that in a minute) but,

For Jordan, this game was a step in the right direction. Yes, she had some bad TOs but she looked more confident and poised on the offensive side and she was probably the best defender on the court.

She was getting to the rim and finishing. And (unfortunately), when the LVs were almost back late in the game, she made a crazy good move to get a wide out open but missed it. Glass half though, not many players could have created that chance so, patience for her to get more consistent in her finishing.

This game was a step-back for Jazz, who had four TOs, several of which were very costly. And Rae had several bad luck TOs, bouncing ball off her foot etc., that did not help

Where the LVs really lost this game (and yes other factors like TOs and not closing out the three pt. shooters also played a role) was in the post. "Feed the ball to your bigs" is a good strategy if they can finish.

Key got a bit better in the 2nd half but in the first half it was a horror show when she got the ball in the paint and KK was no better.

Actually, the small-ball team with Jordan was more effective in running the high low game.

So honestly, Kellie has a team imbalance problem that is not easily solved in the short run. We lack consistent outside shooters and we are not getting consistent post play, even though the team is built for paint points.

We can talk coaching all day long but Key is not going to become a strong scoring presence until she develops more lower body strength. She needs to take contact better and to be more explosive when she goes up for her shot. She does not have to turn into Zion W. but just a 5-10% improvement in her vertical jump and (quickness) would be a game changers.

I am focused on JH right now b/c IMO, she's both the thorniest problem and the biggest key to any postseason success. She's the mass producer of our worst bugaboo, tuornvers, and its very obviously in her head. She's also the potential answer to some our other problems, especially to provide some depth and another scoring threat. Unfortunately, I don't see the improvement you saw last night, but I sure hope you're right.

I really, really want to see her get headed back in the right direction and its crucial to have that happen this offseason. To have KJH first high rated recruit, the one she re-recruited successfully, go down the Evina, Jamie, etc, etc path IMO would be devastating to the program. Couldn't blame that on Holly. How this tough problem gets handled will be critical so its interesting to me.

A few tid bit about "Hoosier's".....

Jack Nicholson was set to play Norman Dale, but due to a legal situation, Jack could not work for 6 months...Another story says he had a scheduling conflict and could not do the film......In any event, he gave his blessings and the film was made without him....

Dennis Hopper and Jack were big pals and Dennis was very disappointed when Jack could not do the film, but he gave a magnificent performance just the same...His character "Shooter", was a fictitious character added to the story for dramatic effect.....

The actual real coach of the championship Indiana High School team, Marvin Wood, continued to coach basketball for many years after winning the state championship....His last team he coached was his granddaughters 7th grade basketball team...(Coach Jumper should like that)

Bobby Plump, the character Jimmy Chitwood is based on, got a 4 year basketball scholarship to Butler University, and was their MVP for several seasons...He is also one of the top free throw shooters in the history of the NCAA Tournament...

The final game in the film, was played at Butler's University field house...This was the actual place of the real game, and an added honor to Bobby Plump, and the game that made Indiana high school basketball history....

This game was long before the shooting time clock....That is why the score is fairly low....It was not uncommon for teams to freeze the ball with a lead....

One final note, Bobby Plump never said "I'll make it" like Jimmy Chitwood said in the film, instead coach Wood told him to take the final shot.....And he did!

Another tidbit about Hoosiers. In real life Milan at the semi state defeated Crispus Attucks who had a pretty good player named Oscar Robertson.
To be fair though, Oscar was a sophmore that year and his team were state champions the next 2 years.

Butler’s field house is Hinkle Fieldhouse and is the coolest place to watch basketball.
Still has wooden seats without backs and the true fieldhouse barrel roof with walls of windows at the ends. If you are a B.B. junkie it is a treat to go to a game there.

1960 my father had a cousin coaching football
In Indianapolis high school . He got us tickets to the semi and finals ! I can remember sitting on that gym floor and watching the teams warm up ! What an exciting time for a 12 year old who dreamed of playing Basketball!

A note of interest ..... the semies and finals were on the same day !!!! Morning semifinals and finals that night .,,,,, Two games on the same day .,,, Truly the best TEAM would win , because one or two players can carry some teams today but not two games in one day !
As most coaches will tell you .... if you take their legs out they won’t shoot with a good percentage. Pressure defense , full court , for a whole game is hard to deal with! Nobody likes to play against pressure. 😱

One more tid bit about Hoosiers.....

In the last scene of the film, a young kid is shooting baskets in the gym...During the pre filming portion (rehearsal) Gene Hackman noticed the kid was wearing white tennis shoes, which was not the standard color for the era....He gave the kid his black socks to wear over his white tennis shoes...The kid has a hard time standing up because the socks were slippery....Saw it tonight...The kid does struggle...

Everyone harping on the “level of improvement throughout the season” needs to just imagine if our schedule was flipped. Please. The improvement overall is there. It’s just masked by improved and improving competition. Like Harper said in her last post game “I’m glad we came out with a win” a lot of “better” teams have lost to these “lesser” teams at this part in the season. I mean it’s sooooo easy to find examples too. (See Vandy, Ala, Aub, FL, heck even Ole Miss)

Crazy to argue, tho I'm sure someone will, that this season is not an overall improvement on previous seasons. It's hard numbers on paper. We won more games, we beat the teams we should beat who we had previously been losing to. Some players, notably Davis and Jaz, took major developmental steps forward during the offseason.

In a more subjective measure, its obvious the culture and mindset surrounding the team are much better. All these are huge accomplishments for which KJH and staff deserve major props. Overall, it seems the LVs are headed in the right direction.

However, IMO the "level of improvement throughout the season" has been a disappointment. Our age old problems are still our problems - high volume turnovers, periods of stagnant, unorganized offense leading to scoring droughts, slow to no development of young players in spite of big minutes played. It just feels like not much has changed since early in the season no matter if we were playing UConn or Ole Miss. We were better then previous seasons then, we're the same better now. I guess I had hoped we'd be more better after 25 games.

I quickly admit my expectation was probably unrealistic, especially given injuries, inexperience and a new coach and system. That's why I'm totally patient with KJH. But next season I think its reasonable to expect improvement game to game and not to be the same team going into post season we were during exhibition season.

Ordinarily I would go the opposite way on such a post, as I am a true Jordan horston believer. But I agree with Rick Barnes, giving them time to consider what they've done versus give them time to think about what they've done is a whole different approach. I agree and pulling her fur careless mistakes or for over playing mistakes but to keep her on the bench extendedly is going to give you and adverse reaction. Giving someone typed too much time to think persimmon a mental status that it's hard to get out of.
.

I need a translator..

I think the LadyVols will be 22-10 going into the NCAA Tournament and that's a darn good first season for Coach Harper:cool:
Pales compared to what Holly did, after 4, end of season 5 lost starters, but sure, give her due, for winning, with worst outside lead schedule I can ever remember. Holly was SEC coach of yr and top 3 for National Coach. Kellie might be Grear, but her staff isn't SEC ready, she should bring in new blood soon.
