They hate him because Pearl has made two Final Fours with Auburn and Barnes can’t get past the Elite Eight and just got blown out. That’s the facts. Everything else is just BS.

I mean I’m not sure it’s that. I heard the hate way before Pearl made it to a final 4. Plus I love Barnes and I wouldn’t trade him for Pearl by any means. But when Barnes steps down and Pearl wanted to come back, you’d be crazy to say no

If Florida continues to play as they have been in the tournament so far Auburn will win barring some Walter Clayton bull **** in the last 2 minutes. I just don't see Auburn not getting up and playing hard for this one. Clayton and Haugh have been carrying the team the past couple games. Need Condon to pick it up badly (I assume he is still hurt) and the other guards to start hitting some shots early on. Chinyelu is also struggling mightily with bunnies under the basket as of late which makes Condon's poor play hurt worse for trying to make things happen in the paint.

I think Florida getting back to how they were playing in the SEC tournament is possibly the best chance any team is beating Duke this year, and that may not even be enough if Duke also brings their A game.

I will stay neutral in F4 but I can say that an Auburn NC would be a huge dagger to AL fans and that would give me some satisfaction. Otherwise since Vols not in it I don't really care.

Usually, I might just cheer for the SEC. — But since there are Two of them left, I’m cheering for Auburn!

1st of all: Bruce Pearl is not only a great coach - he’s a really good guy! (Not on the same scale as Ric Barnes)
— But, I remember when one of our players Dad died - And Pearl loaded the whole team on a bus & took them to the funeral. — Things like that are more important than competition or winning “games”!

2nd: I’ve never really had a problem with Auburn fans…..

— Not like their “illegitimate” & “illiterate” cousins from Tuscaloosa!

And, the “gator-chomp” is one of the most obnoxious images in college sports!
(I consider it worse than “Roow’l Tyde” & UGA fans “Wooo-fing” all the time……)

3rd: I honestly can’t stomach Florida winning another National Championship, right now!

— Their sports teams were working NIL before it ever even existed!: Tebow - Ya’ Think???!; Their “students” only go there to get access to sports tickets!; Their campus is a minor “blip”- inside of a whole Swamp of CRAP!; And, their fans are obnoxious as HELL!

(Call it BVS - or whatever! — But if Tennessee didn’t win it ALL in Baseball last year, we would probably ALL be in “disappointment mode”).

Pearl is pretty old himself 65 YO walking overweight red-faced heart attack waiting to happen or you may want Steven to step in. Barnes a much healthier looking 70 YO IMO.

A lot of the same people from what I’ve seen. I’ll give you the same opinion about it today as I would have given you then: right is right and wrong is wrong and I can forgive someone for doing wrong, but don’t try and pretend that it’s not. This isn’t some moral gray area.

Ok, fine, I’ll tell you all about it.

One of Pearl’s first big jobs in coaching was an assistant at Iowa under Tom Davis. He was battling against Illinois for a recruit named Deon Thomas. Thomas chose Illinois over Iowa. Pearl tried to screw the kid over by calling him and badgering him into confessing to being paid by Illinois - which he wasn’t, but the kid said he was just because he wanted Pearl to go away. What Thomas didn’t know was that Pearl secretly recorded the phone call and then turned the tape over to the NCAA to try to get him declared ineligible. He’s lucky to have avoided criminal charges, as Illinois state law prohibits recording a phone call without the consent of the other person. Thomas would go on to become the all time leading scorer in Illinois history. Pearl would be blackballed from coaching for years because no school wanted to be associated with someone who would do something so scummy.

Pearl worshippers in this fanbase want you to think the extent of his violations here was just that “he lied about a bbq” but it was more than that. He told his assistants to lie for him in the investigation and they ended up setting their careers back a decade falling on the sword for him. Not only that, he told the parents of the recruits to lie too. So this wasn’t an accidental violation - he knew full well what he was doing was not allowed, and because he was a repeat offender he also knew he’d be nailed if caught.

He‘s had even worse violations at Auburn that he somehow got off the hook for. One of his assistants was convicted of a federal felony after it was discovered he was taking bribes to push players Auburn was recruiting to sign with a particular agent. He later was also found to have illegally paid the tuition of an Auburn walk on. The only punishment Pearl got over this was a 2 game suspension - for a FEDERAL FELONY. Auburn also self imposed a one year postseason ban, but the team that was banned was awful and wasn’t going to make the tournament anyway. So that wasn’t really a punishment at all.

22 years ago but yeah. He is 0-4 in the elite 8 since while Pearl has made 2 final fours in modern basketball. One has evolved and the other still plays an old school style that cannot not score enough against elite teams deep in the tourney. Hence the now record of 15 points that UT holds due to his style.

One just win AP coach of the year and one has retirement rumors swirling him.
