To give you an idea, here is something from Ron Paul's website on it: Liberty Dollar - Is this a scam? | Ron Paul 2012 | Sound Money, Peace and Liberty

And here is something from a coin website explaining the fraud: Liberty Dollars - NORFED Dollars - Liberty Dollar Coins

And finally, wikipedia: Liberty Dollar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The issue is not rounding up precious metals to keep private citizens from owning them. Its preventing the creation of a private currency which is designed to trick gullible folks into thinking it has real value in trade for U.S. currency, which it doesn't. Its a scam, pure and simple.

I would point out in that regard that the Secret Service and the FBI raided them in 2007, under Bush.

They are 1oz coins made from .999 silver. Is the govt going to confiscate my grandmas silver tea set next?

No.

If you proclaim yourself or your lawn a sovereign state and start printing your own money that looks like U.S. currency and you sell it to thousands of people by fooling them that it is a hedge against inflation or Armageddon or some such nonsense, the Treasury might want to have a word.

But I thought it was a scam?

Read the links I posted and you will understand.

It was sold as a hedge on inflation, as money that was "real" because it was made of precious metals. But, turns out it actual content was a fraction of the alleged denomination.

So, what you did, is spend U.S. currency to buy junk that was represented to be really good junk. But it wasn't. And then people tried to spend it.

Every layer of it was populated by crooks or idiots, usually both.

In honor of the gold confiscation act of 2013 thread, started by our obviously very knowledgeable NEOCON (sarcasm), I am making a limited offer. I am selling some very special currency, found in a vault of Jack's beanstalk beans. This special currency is made of paper, which, as you know, the government of Rhode Island considers to be, well, pretty much everywhere.

So, if you send me $5 I will send you one of these, and you can keep it on display and all the while know you are giving the patriotic finger, collectively with your other moron friends, to the government of Rhode Island.

People are buying $20 of silver for $50. SFW? It gives the government no right to seize liberty dollars from private collectors.

I will say this once more and then moving on: the issue isn't just the scam of selling $20 for $50. Its implying, indeed outright promoting, the use of this fake schnit for actual U.S. currency. The defense that since it has silver in it and therefore is tradeable as U.S. currency does not fly.

Anyone that tries to use them as currency should be fined and have them confiscated. Other than that, let the idiots pay $50 for $20 worth of silver.

Sure. If it's fraudulent I have a problem with the producers, but issue is that they may seize liberty coins from private collectors. Huge violation of property rights. That is my issue. You fly off the handle calling people morons and arguing points that aren't relevant. I don't care what if is .000000001% silver, people should be able to buy and own it.

you do realize that Obama is neither a king nor a dictator and that he would have to have a very, very pliable congress in order to pass legislation outlawing the private possession of gold.

do you understand that he surpasses congress via EPA to get regulations on energy. he'll pass congress on everything he can.

We have millions gaming the system and selling food stamps for 10 cents on the dollar, and this is the guy the administration goes after. Hilarious.

And those are analagous to silver?

And yes, we should be able to consume cocaine.

Its not the silver they are taking. I have silver.

Its the silver fashioned into a fake currency and sold to Glen Beck-listening morons who don't know any better than that they are getting totally ripped off and committing a federal crime when they try to spend it.
