Good point on the radio last night. Pay up and hire a really GOOD coach

For the last time, Hamilton was willing to open the check book, no one wanted the job. He opened the checkbook for Kiffin, and he would have done the same but no one would take it.

That is pure speculation. They aren't going to let it get out because it looks bad on the university when the candidate turns down the job. How many people publicly turned down the USC job? Interviews and interest is done secretly. The people we read about were the only coaches would even entertain the idea.

So my post is pure speculation - but yours isn't? Lol.

It was reported Hamilton tried to get a big hire. He thought Kiffin was his homerun hire and that flamed out, he tried to do the same, but this job was a complete dumpster fire. Why would an elite coach even waste their time trying to fix the complete disaster that was UT athletics 3 years ago? Coaching is extremely stressful, and they have earned a much better and easier job.

No elite coach was going to come here for any less than 4 million.

I highly, highly doubt Hamilton was willing to go over 2.5.. maybe 3 million. Nearly every single hire he made while he was here backs that up.

Name me one elite coach that would leave their current job for that money at that time. What elite coaches were even available?

We weren't going to hire Saban or Petrino away. Harbaugh just finished an 8-5 season, they wouldn't have paid him that much considering he was not considered a sure thing. Gruden wasn't coming here. Pete Carrol was still at USC.

I can't think of an elite coach even available.

Please enlighten me with your knowledge of the subject? I'd love to hear it.

You provided speculation.
Bass provided speculation
You dogged Bass for merely providing speculation.
Bass called you out for your inability to see you were doing the same thing he was.
Bass understands speculation.
STL does not.

Need anymore play by play or will that be sufficient?

Actually no - it was way more overblown that it turned out to be - anyone who actually took some time to follow up on that saw that rather just reading the posters who were so butthurt about Kiffin leaving so they used the investigation as a reason to be "happy" about him leaving town for a better program.. basically to try to remain prideful.

I hate to agree with you, but after last night the difference in play calling was astounding. The games that Kiffin called against UGA, Bama and SC that year were three of the best I've ever seen.

if kiffin stayed we would be celebrating our 3rd win over uf. Bray would be WAY more developed. and the play calling would be tailored to our strengths. We would be a cocky 60 min team also. We beat everyone in the east that year except # uf with tebow. we would have been in atl at least twice. he was thought well enough to take over usc, which is a powerhouse program. it was a good hire just bad timing. but we need that kind of loaded staff again. YES!!

I heard USC is lookin for more fans like u by the way they lost to Stanford but thats better than losin to florida tho huh its not like we r a #2 losin to a #25 team, all u so called vol fans makin me sick

comprehension isnt your strong point is it? That has nothing to do with the subject we are talking about.

Like I said, it was said UT tried to go after big names, but no one would even entertain the idea.

Do people forget that UGA and USCe were very mediocre in 2009. UGA lost to UK and USCe lost to Uconn. UT had way more talent than those teams.

Bama played like absolute crap that game, like LSU did against UT in 2010.

Sorry you don't have any knowledge on the subject and have added absolutely nothing to this thread. Congratulations:good!:

Sorry, I would respond but I have to head to my reading comprehension class. This was a nice talk and I think we are really building a strong friendship. Later STL:) Keep the "inside info" coming!

I know the first grade is tough. Cursive writing is the hardest part. Stay strong though, you'll pass someday:thumbsup:

Kinda like the way he handled Stanford Saturday, last year, and his first year there... oh wait.

Wow! That is actually an incredibly insightful and innovative school of thought. I mean I was thinking we should not offer a replacement competitive pay and just settle for a subpar coach. But u my friend along with a fantastic talk radio host are on to something. This one thread has totally opened my eyes. Thanks for posting!

Florida and SC were mediocre last year and they both still beat us. Kiffin is a 5x better play caller than Chaney. That's just a fact. Don't let your pissing contest with Bass make you look like an idiot.

You are calling me an idiot even though South Carolina won 11 games(most in school history) yet they suck? Yea I'm the idiot. You just proved you have no idea what you are talking about.

Where was Kiffin's great play calling against a mediocre Auburn and UCLA team? Where was Kiffin's play calling against Ole Miss? What about Washington, Arizona State, or Stanford yesterday?

You do realize that kiffin and his staff were one of the best paid in the country, right?

The SC team that Kiffin beat in 09 was better than the team that beat us last year. No Lattimore or Garcia remember. We were blown out in 08 against UGA and SC and we had basically the same offensive personnel. UGA was a better team in 08 than 09 OFFENSIVELY. The difference between the two years was 38 points. Kiffin also went on the road and would have beaten the eventual NC if he had a kicker. That was with Crompton and two walk on's on the OL. I can't stand Kiffin, but if you can't see that he gets more out of an offense than Chaney, then I don't know what to tell you. And I didn't call you an idiot, I just said don't let losing your temper with Bassman cause you to act like one. I know you're usually a pretty solid poster.

Same thing we did hiring kiffin and band of big name assistants. That turned out well. So creative. Vol fans equal knee jerk. Patience is a virtue and something we lack.

Well tell us then Nostradamus, how long must we be "patient"? We've been stuck in the land of mediocrity so long, that frankly, my patience is almost exhausted. I'm tired of the excuses frankly, either they are going to have to make an honest commitment to getting back to national and conference prominence, or we're going to be continually disappointed, year in and year out, and be going to Nashville for a bowl game every year.

And to think people were tired of us going to the Citrus Bowl every other year.....oh how the mighty have fallen.

Garcia wasn't the starter opening week. They put him in because Shaw did terrible against ECU. Shaw ended up winning the starting job after Garcia's terrible Vandy performance. Spurrier doesn't cut Garcia if Shaw didnt win the job. That SC team last year wiped the floor with Clemson and Nebraska. The 09 team lost to a 7-5 UGA team, a 7-5 Arky team, and a 7-5 UConn team. Come on now.

We were blown out because of the clawfence. If Cutcliffe stays, UT wins a lot more than 5 games in 2008. Cutcliffe leaving for Duke what ultimately destroyed Fulmer. Kiffin had a lot of talent on O, the Sullins bros were terrible against great teams, but we only played against 2 great teams that year UF and Bama.

I don't think Kiffin or Chaney are good OCs in the SEC. Chaney would be a lot better in the big 12 or pac 12 and Kiffin is where he belongs, yet he is still finding ways to lose.
