Good Signs

I completely agree with the positive thoughts towards Palardy, he really blew my hair back when he made that fieldgoal in the beginning of the second half against UF. Much improvement than the last years. Hope to see more of that towards the rest of the harder games we have coming up on our schedule.

NO, I will not edit it or delete it! I do not think there are any criticisms or complaints in it--just very real observations...within an extremely positive framework (see first and last statements for framework).

Sorry, junior, this is still the USA where freedom of speech has been preserved by the blood of countless soldiers over at least 2 centuries. If you want to control what you think is "positive" and eliminate anything remotely "negative" in your opinion--MOVE TO IRAN, CHINA, or somewhere else--or just hit the ignore button.

I noticed you are from Cleveland... That's a really nice place.

Your post is total hogsqueeze and you should respect the OP's request to keep it positive. I'm not sure you totally grasp the first amendment rights either but this is a sports forum.

I noticed you are a fan of the Bronco's... That's great!

There, My post is positive following your formula of bookending the negative with positive statements.:peace2:

I agree with this 100%. I see a lot of negativity toward McCullers but there is not much happening for opposing offenses on interior runs this season. I think they have been very stout. AJ has been outstanding also imo. he gets criticized for not making tackles outside the box, but he's an inside LB and his pursuit has actually been quite good.:salute:

I was at the Swamp sitting in the South End Zone and watched our D line in action...McCullers was being double teamed and clogging up the middle. He was putting a lot of pressure up front...

His KOs were good...his punts were good...and his FGs were down the middle...he has improved 100%.

Dang, there's some misplaced aggression here. He's just trying to have a positive thread, and asked for your cooperation in a nice way. Why so hostile?

:eek:lol:

Let's see...I say Swafford is gonna be a baller...JRM is gonna be a stud....Brewer has finally found a home at LB....I want to see us improve in setting the edge on D...I wanna see us run the ball more....can't wait until Maggitt comes back...this team plays hard for CBJ and staff....the sky is not falling...forgot to say that Palardy has really improved and impressed with his play!

We're asking our QBs to make very difficult throws on out patterns--would like to see us call safer throws....would like to see us commit to offensive consistency and establish the run with emphasis on positives on running game....questioned some play-calling--> I say that I think we'll finish 7-5... and these are negatives that need to be edited and/or deleted????

Have you guys really read the negative posts by some other folks on here???

Excuse me, sir--and OP--

My suggestions for "improvements" were intended to identify and eliminate the negatives IMO--which DOES--in fact--imply the expectation and production of future positive results--resulting in at least a 7 win season, and possibly an 8 win season (if we upset USCe, which I fully expect us to do).

There--boys--feel better??

GO VOLS! :salute:

Vols covered the point spread for just the third time in the last eight games against Florida, even though Peterman played poorly.

We seem to be having endless debate about whether or to what degree the results of the last two games relate to coaching or talent. I personally think it is both but find myself responding more to those who avoid blaming the coaches at all. Seems few are in denial about UT's roster being less than ideal.

I have challenged others to point to signs for believing that this coaching staff is the right one to get it done... a reason to hope and believe in Jones.

The point of this thread is to list those "positives".

I do not think these are enough but will start with a couple of good signs I've noticed. Please feel free to add... but let's stay away from the negative stuff. We already have about 50 threads for that.

1- Croom's catch. Early in the season he looked lost and dropped easy catches. His catch on the slant from Worley vs UF was outstanding. He got inside position, used his body to shield off the defender, maintained great concentration, then caught a rocket pass with his hands and held on after getting hit pretty good. Croom is being coached up effectively and apparently quickly.

2- The LB's. The back ups leave much to be desired. However the starters are pretty good. AJ is being AJ... a good thing. Both Brewer and Sapp are making plays in space and are above avg LB's in coverage. Thigpen's guys are doing well. The return of Maggitt could make it a very strong group.

3- Swafford. They found him... they coached him... they played him. His pick 6 on Saturday isn't the first time I've noticed him playing well. He obviously isn't an elite athlete... but he still found a way to blanket one of the best receivers in the SEC in man coverage then cut under him to get the pick.

4- Worley. The possible good to come out of losing a winnable game at UF was that Worley got to see what he could do playing loose. When Bray first took over vs USCe, he immediately played well because he seemed to have a devil may care attitude. Simms played tight as a bow string. Bray had fun. Maybe... the brilliance of starting Peterman will be that Worley lets a little of his inner gun slinger come out. Maybe Jones has gotten him to stop hesitating on his decisions.

5.) Palardy! This one cannot be overstated enough!!

Let me educate you friend, about the first amendment and it's intention:

It was written to keep people like yourself and the OP from silencing those folks like me who have dissenting opinions--and secured the establishment of a public forum (like message boards on sports forums) for the discussion and debate of ideas and opinions.

The first amendment doesn't make it disrespectful to have and vocalize opinions--even when they may contradict the intention or opinions of the OP in a volnation thread. In fact, it actually PROTECTS the discussion and everyone's right to participate in the forum.

Nevertheless--I will leave this thread so that you may continue on with your "hogsqueeze." :salute:

A couple more things that stood out to me:

1. Few penalties - even with a couple of penalties against Florida, we still have ONLY 9 TOTAL penalties through four games. That's coaching and discipline.

2. More takeaways - our defense has 12 turnovers in 4 games. That's the same number of turnovers they had ALL LAST SEASON. Another sign of good coaching, and a way to make a less talented defense perform above expectations - CREATE TURNOVERS.

Go Vols!

May be echoing somebody else, but Brent Brewer played a he!! of a game. Ithink I saw 6 tackles and 5 were solo. He also had a couple of batted passes.

AJ will be AJ. But if we can get him some from other LB's and/or Saftey's that will help our defense tremendously.

I cannot force you to comply. It was a polite request.

Sorry JUNIOR but this is a privately owned and operated board. The property rights of the owner and operators prevail over free speech. They allow us a great deal of latitude but they alone determine the extent of our free speech HERE. As the John "Cougar" once said, "everybody can do what they want... they just can't do it here".

Again, I was being polite in asking you to disclude criticisms..... Now, I am politely correcting your misunderstanding of what the right to free speech actually includes and does not include.

Now... let's look at your post. ONLY points 5 and 7 are positives that point to things the staff HAS done that suggests they are the right ones. The rest whether in a positive framework or not... are criticisms and complaints.

Again, I have tried to start a thread that would not turn into a bunch of complaints, criticisms, catfights, and carping. I ask only that you show some decency and respect that.

BTW, Mike. I have not attempted to police your posts or anyone else's in other threads as far as I know. I have argued and debated but full well respect others' rights to disagree with me.

I've seen players miss tackles and then come back and make the tackle when they ran the same play again. So, they are learning from their mistakes and fixing the problems.

Agreed. I think we have also seen guys miss tackles then hustle back to get involved in the play downfield. That's something we have not seen in awhile.

People are discussing the Worley/ Peterman fiasco, but I find it more frustrating to look at UF's QB play.

UF's starter was knocked out in the 1st quarter. I never like to see a kid get hurt but it happened. As far as I know Murphy had never had any meaningful playing time. Why is it that our opponents are able to get production out of their back-ups when UT has struggled with that for years?

The pass Murphy threw along the sideline on a 3rd and 10 early in the third quarter was beautiful. Worley and Peterman couldn't make that throw if you gave them no defenders and 20 balls each.

That's what leaves me shaking my head. You have a great chance to get the ball back and tie it up, instead they complete the 3rd and 10 for 31 yards and ultimately score a td on the drive. 24-10.

I know this sounds like sour grapes, cause it is. But there's no way that kid makes that throw more than once out of 20. It was absolutely perfect. When it was live I thought it wasn't even close that he was out of bounds.... then I saw the replay. It was absolutely perfectly executed by the QB and WR. And it just pi$$ed me off. That's just the kind of crap that happens when we play Florida.... they pull off plays like that and we DON'T. I know it's because they're better but it's still frustrating. Wurffel was not better than Manning... yet he made throws for 3rd, 4th down coversions and tds when Peyton didn't. Ugh.

Does anyone know who Sutton was on most of the game?

I know Coleman had coverage on Dunbar with that 31-yard play and Swafford/Coleman were on the side of the field to cover that screen to Patton that went for 52 yards.

A true freshman stringing together 2 good games early in the season @Oregon and @Florida is a good sign to me. Sutton has looked very good an *gasp* has speed at Corner as well. Pair him up with Foreman (4.4 guy) and incoming speed at Corner and things actually look like UT will have speed at Corner in the coming years.

Brent Brewer was awesome, and Cam Sutton is going to ball here. Palardy has really improved--maybe the most improved on the team.

Brian Randolph had 8 solo tackles. Great to see a Vol who was carried off the field in this game last year come back with a vengeance.

Coach Jones acts like he is proud to be here. Good things will come if he is being honest.

This isn't really a "good sign" but it does provide some context to the ups and downs of a game played by very young men.

We rushed for 66 yards against Florida.

Alabama rushed for only 66 yards against Colorado State!!! That included a 38 yard run. Basically, Bama's O-Line is playing terrible football in the run game right now.

These are the cycles you go through.

Swafford looks like a pretty damn good athlete to me.... Don't have to be a 5* to be an "elite" athlete.

The game slowed down for Worley against Fla.
SA will be his break out.
Butch may get his signature against GA or SC at home.
One of them will help like Fla did.

I was just talking about things like raw speed. He looked like he was running in waders.:)

FWIW, give me the kid that can make that play in spite of not being as fast.... all day long. Instinct and vision more often than not get a player where they need to be faster than raw speed.
