Good thing Tennessee didn’t hire Lane!

BTW I'm not a math major but he got 4.5 mil from USC. UT was scheduled to pay him 2.7 mil in yr 2. That's a 1.8mil raise but once you factor in California state tax vs Tennessee no state tax he made 2.1 mil which was 600,000 less then he would have made at UT. This doesn't even count the cost of living in California vs Tennessee. So No he didn't double his pay.
No he was not supposed to make 2.7 in his second year here. The deal started at 2.0 and gradually increased every year to 2.75 in the final year of the deal.

2009-2.00
2010-2.15
2011-2.3
2012-2.45
2013-2.6
2014-2.75

Mississippi State just beat A&M on the road. Surprised that happened because I've been told on Volnation that Mississippi State has this overrated head coach who won't last much longer in the SEC.

Anyways. Lane really isn't going to have it easy the rest of the year.
Leach and Kiffin both suck

Don't gloat. Fact is, despite Lane's immaturity at the time, he was and still is a good coach. Ole Miss. rarely has top-level talent, and we didn't either during Lane's brief stay at UT. His out manned team butted heads with the #1 team in the country and still scored 21 points. We will see what happens when we meet Bam-Bam too. I hope we not just upset them, but produce 48+ to 10 beat down. But we will see. I don't want Lane here because I hold the contention that once a quitter, always a quitter, and he did quit on FAU like he did us. So, no thanks despite my accolades. If you want to hear some gloating, listen to what the Kentucky people are saying about beating Florida, a team that knocked us down and stepped on us. Yes, yes, yes, you can debate why both games unfolded as they did. But the point here is presumptuous gloating usually means the gloater doesn't know what they're talking about, or know but just want to make some noise. If the Kif gets a decent defense to with his offenses, you and the rest of us will be singing or chanting a different set of lyrics. I wouldn't want him here again even if he started winning championships at Ole Miss, but I can admit he is a good coach. Just ask Compton, or even Saban. Saban? Yes, once, when he nearly laid Bam-Bam low with inferior and undersized UT players. And again when he was OC and had Bam-Bam's offense rolling.

I'm sorry you are still dealing with this trauma from Kiffin 12 years ago. Hope you can seek help to get over this. Sounds like you are having a rough go at it day in and day out from a football coach who has no direct impact on your life.
Lol hang on to your dream. Kiffin is a loser and will never win anything. Ever. There is a reason no real program will touch him

I wouldn’t say Leach sucks. He’s a good coach with not a lot of resources to work with.

His weird ego and goofy sayings probably would have got annoying after a while but I think we would have been better off if we hired him over Pruitt.

Obviously Fulmer and Leach didn’t see eye to eye in regards of his comments during the job interview.

He will be fired at Miss St within 2 years. There is a reason he never actually wins anything but he’s good at dumb quotes and meaningless yards

He is the reason we sucked in 2010. The rest is our leadership.

Kiffin leaving was bad and definitely set us back. The fact of the matter is the multiple programs have been torn down, rebuilt, and in some cases rebuilt a second time since Kiffin left UT. Furthermore, Baylor and Penn State suffered much worse crises and managed to come back strong.

Hire a decent coach instead of Dooley and Kiffin’s departure is barely a blip in our history. Hire someone decent instead of Butch and we’d have been good for some time now. Have a real coaching search after Butch and find someone worth a damn and again, we are respectable at present. Fire Pruitt without nuking the program by turning ourselves in and then we can have a much better search and aren’t having players leave in droves and we are very well looking at 9 wins this year.

We’ve had multiple chances to come back from the dead and we just keep digging the grave deeper. Hopefully Heupel is the guy, but if so, it was luck that brought him here, not leadership.
Don’t disagree but he started the issue by leaving had his shot to be here for the long haul yet people would want his sorry ass back.

And you keep swallowing it with relish. I wonder why. Probably because you weren't weaned properly. Seems like you're another one of those posters who lies in wait to ambush others with foolish insults in hoping for a tit-for-tat back and forth. Guess I'll be employing VN's magic button again.

Tennessee’s pride has become laughable. Ole Miss sure is enjoyable to watch!!! Wonder how Tennessee would look right now if they’d just swallowed their pride and gone after him when they could have. Tennessee will unfortunately struggle for many more years.

I just don't get all this Stockholm Syndrome for Lane Kiffin. He's entertaining and dynamic, but so are strippers, and there are better coaches (by record) all around. The sad part about TN fans pining for him is they believe a chronic liar and mercenary would stick around long enough to rebuild the program when he abandoned it once, and has had 4 jobs since then, 3 as head coach.

Many fans at Ole Miss (Future Tennessee) will be sore and confused in 2024 when Lane leaves for the next gig, but for now they believe he's sincere when he spouts this:

Kiffin: "I'm Fully Committed To Where I'm At"

I'm sure even Lane himself believes it because the best liars believe their own lies. Just makes it easier to lie to everyone else.

And when he leaves some Ole Miss fans will still want him back, just for the excitement and swagger. They'd have better luck with the stripper.

You edited for that? Jesus. I don’t need back and forth from you. I prefer real talk with normal actual Vol fans

We had two losing seasons in four years prior to his arrival and were ten years removed from our last championship.

I think it’s just retrospective. People wanted him hired over Pruitt, but we wouldn’t look at him. He obviously would have worked out better. People wanted him during the last coaching search when we were striking out left and right, but we wouldn’t look at him. Maybe this time our fifth choice works out. I certainly hope so.

Are we really thinking Heupel wouldn’t leave if Oklahoma came calling?
Yes, we're really thinking that.

Because Josh Heupel is not an Oklahoma lad.

He grew up in South Dakota. Went off to college in Utah. A couple of years later, transferred to Oklahoma.

Sure, he won a national title there, and started his coaching career there after a couple of injured years not getting any play time in the NFL.

But then he got fired by the Oklahoma head coach (Bob Stoops), his mentor. Even though the Sooners' disappointing season was in no way the offense's fault. Josh was made the fall guy because Stoops couldn't fire his Defensive Coordinator (his brother).

So neither in native allegiance nor in treatment as a player and coach does he have strong ties to Oklahoma. He's a gypsy of the college football world. Where he is, that's where he's at home.

We have him forever, as long as we want him and we treat him well.

Go Vols!

Treat him well. Meaning we have to pay him well.

Lane hasn’t changed. Still a great offensive/QB coach. Still an immature twit that gets his ass handed to him in the big games.

You've made it clear what you are and why you're really on this board. I've encountered your like before. BYE.

People would rather lose TO Kiffin than win with him.

One fortunate part about losing to Lane Kiffin (as head coach) is the over/under on him vacating or losing the job is about 2.5 years.

Bama got the best out of him by hiring him as OC, which played to his strengths as coach and recruiter, while avoiding disruptions from his lying, mercenary tendencies. Even Saban gave him credit for opening up their offense to attract more QB talent:
Nick Saban on how Lane Kiffin Changed the Alabama Offense

Some folks are tired of the "girlfriend" analogy about Kiffin, and I agree. How about a Hollywood metaphor? Kiffin, like Brad Pitt, does his best work as a supporting actor, but has trouble carrying a movie as the lead. If a team really wanted to get value from Kiffin, they would hire him as OC under a HC to keep him focused. Not many college programs could afford that, but the pros could.
