Goodbye Oregon Football

Not really. The hippy students at UofO still either don't care about the game, or only go for the party if they do go. Plenty of halfway decent studentfolk at the university. It's the legions of people with absolutely no connection to the school other than a shared state of residence that are unbearable.

Okay, there are tons of people with no connections to a university other than living in that state that root for every major college football team.

Give me a break.

No problem with that. I have no formal connection to ut. Just saying it's the segment that contains the majority of the nutcases.

The Ducks entire fanbase more or less consists of people like the guy in the article, or people who will either go back to being Beaver fans or ambivalent about college football once UofO gets knocked back to mediocrity.

I think JTrain said it best when he call UO fans noveau riche. They have the 'money' but don't have a clue how the 'upper crust' functions. They come off looking like The Beverly Hillbillies of college football, speaking purely metaphorically.

Believe it or not...that makes sense.

Gotcha. I misunderstood.

How did you even become a UT fan? Ainge?

Yep. Grew up going to games at Reser and Autzen, still try to go to at least one at each every year, but never really latched on to either.

Followed Ainge into college, found VolNation and saw the '04 win against UF on the same day, and the rest is history.

Cool. Met Ainge a couple of times as a youth football player while watching UT practices. Seemed like a really nice guy.

Thanks, I thought so too in a folksy wisdom type way.

Maehlman, I do have to say that you have handled this situation in a better fashion that 99% of the other Duck fans that I have read about. We do have a little bit of recent experience with the 'AA. Many of us had our heads in the sand until reality set in on us.

Thanks. Some people have their heads in the sand, but I'd rather just prepare myself for the reality of the situation and the punishment that may be handed down.

I'll be the first to say that I was quite the douche at times...

Well, at least you can admit it. That's more than can be said about wheaton. I will give respect when respect is shown, especially when in someone else's 'house'.:hi:

Means never received any money. Only his coach/handler

Do you get it now?

His coach received money for Means to sign somewhere. How has it been established that Oregon paid Lyles for Seastrunk to sign?

Of course just paying him isn't a violation. Its paying him to set up recruiting visits. The second oregon gives lyles money he becomes a booster. Boosters can have nothing to do with the recruiting process. And if kelly didn't think he was in deep trouble why freak out and request any recruiting info from lyles years later? I.e. why the coverup?

So, the second Cal paid Lyles, he became a booster and the information ("access" or whatever else you want to call it) was also a violation?

One of the requirements for scouts is to give written materials. Scrambling to meet the written materials rule does not demonstrate that he was trying to cover up some other violation.

NCAA bylaw 13.02.14, criteria for a booster or "representative of the institution’s athletics interests"

As I have pointed out before, these rules do not clarify when an act is "for" the institution.

It could be that Lyles would have done these things no matter what school Seastrunk was interested in going to on behalf of helping Seastrunk get to the college he wants to. In that case, he's not really acting on behalf of Oregon as much as Seastrunk.

No problem with that. I have no formal connection to ut. Just saying it's the segment that contains the majority of the nutcases.

As they say, when you point a finger, three are pointed back at you.

I was always taught that a host was supposed to show respect as well.

Anyway, show me where I've disrespected someone before they threw the first stone and I will apologize.

Bottom line: Canzano is a generally well-respected and well-recognized columnist, and the only group of people I've ever known to take consistent issue with him are Duck fans when he's not praising the program.

Who even knows who Canzano is outside of Oregon? The only people that I've known to follow and approve of him are Beaver fans. And not for his meticulous journalism.

Dear Bill,

thanks for your help burying that hooker. Looking forward to selling crack cocaine to minors behind the elementary school tomorrow. Hope you feel the same.

Go 'Tards!

Wheaton's defense is eerily similiar to what I saw from Buckeye fans 4-5 months ago.

Lyles received the payment from Oregon right after Seastrunk and Dontae Williams signed with Oregon

Feb. 3, 2010: Seastrunk -- and Houston running back Dontae Williams, another Lyles' advisee -- sign national letters of intent with the Ducks.

Feb. 22, 2010: Lyles, on Complete Scouting Services letterhead, bills UO $25,000 for "2011 National Package."

March 2010: Fishbein receives a W9 from UO for $25,000 payment to Lyles and Elite. Fishbein notifies UO that Lyles is no longer an employee of Elite.

March 16, 2010: Complete Scouting Services website is registered.

March 24, 2010: UO issues $25,000 payment to Lyles and his new business, Complete Scouting Services.

you don't seem to understand this. recruting information (phone numbers, videos, etc) is fine. getting access to recruits and the booster setting up recruiting visits is absolutely a violation. if cal payed for this like oregon did than they will be in trouble as well.

once again. if what he did was completely on the up and up and scouts don't need to provide anything why even ask for the written materials?
