Gordon, Johnson fail qualifying inspection

Are you kidding me? :eek:lol:

The 8 team used a part that NASCAR issued them while the 24 and 48 intentionally tried to get around a rule by messing with the body.

The 24 and 48 tried to get around what rule??? Where is the rule that says the fenders can't be touched? The 8 crew messed with bolts that NASCAR says do not touch because that will alter the rear wing.

The rule that the bodies, much like the wings, on the CoTs cannot be messed with. Both teams were penalized exactly how NASCAR explained before the first CoT race.

Care to tell us where the 8 qualified at Darlington with the NASCAR issued wing bolts and then how the car ran in the race with legal, NASCAR issued wing bolts?

According to the stats, he qualified 21st and finished 8th. And as I remember, the car ran great the first half of the race. He didn't have to start at the rear of the field, nor did he miss an entire practice session.

The car passed pre-qualifying inspection which is what allowed them to retain their qualifying position. They didn't fail inspection with a part that slowed the car down until after qualifying.

20-2H - fenders may not be cut or altered except for wheel or tire clearance which must be approved by the Series Director

Where they messed with it was right around where the tire clearance would come into effect, but whatever they did, obviously Darby didn't like. Nonetheless, I still don't think the punishment fit the crime, but it's a moot point. They'll be fine and probably come out stronger in the end.

It fit the crime, that's what every other crew chief has received since Daytona....With the exception of Michael Waltrip

Michael Waltrip isn't a crew chief.

and considering his crew chief lost eventually lost his job, i'd say he paid for it as well. not to mention that MWR started the season -100 for the #55.
