Got 99 problems and a Butch is one

I actually like the coaching staff outside of Jancek being DC. I'm a Vol fan through and through so nothing would make me more happy then for Jancek to prove me wrong. I agree talent will help but I just don't see Jancek matching wits with the better OC's in this league. Time will tell.

I agree, speed was a major issue two weeks ago against Auburn. But it was also a combination of poor scheming. The players weren't in the position to make plays on D and they all run like they have pianos strapped to their backs. Bad combo.

Do you actually think you are making UT football better by defending what's going on?

Truth is , neither one of us makes a difference. If Internet comments are all it takes to keep UT football down, we screwed anyway.

I agree

Matthews is slow. If he gets drafted I doubt his career lasts very long. That is... uh... coaching, not talent.

Franklin took over a program that had just suffered two consecutive 2 win seasons. They were by no stretch loaded with talent or anything of the sort. He took that team to a bowl in his first season. He lost 2 games by more than 7 points... One to national champ Bama and once to 11-2 USCe.

I don't particularly like the guy... but that's coaching. That's taking the talent on hand and getting the most out of it.

Vandy shouldn't have been in the game with UT this past Saturday. It should have been a laugher by the half... and Franklin KNEW IT. Why do you think HE was playing so conservative? Imagine his surprise when Jones with the better roster did the same thing in return.

If Matthews can get open against SEC defensive backs, he'll get open against NFL defensive backs.

Franklin has lived off a creampuff out of conference schedule ever since he has been on campus. They bought out their Ohio St game to assure themselves 4 wins. Butch would have 5 wins if we had not scheduled Oregon.

And you don't watch much football if you think Vandy shouldn't have been in the game with UT. UT was starting a true freshman at QB in only his 3rd game. Starting a true freshman at QB usually gets you beat. You can count on one hand how many successful true freshmen QB's there have been over the years. There aren't many. Vandy had a Sr QB and subbed in a redshirt freshman. Dobbs also lost his best weapon in North early in the game. After he threw two early picks and lost North, the coaching staff was either going to win or lose it running the football.

So you really think UT should have run a team that beat both UGA and UF out of the stadium? Maybe if both Worley and North were both healthy but not with them both out. Even with a depleted secondary all vandy had to was load the box to stop the run and cover pig.

This guy gives me hope where none existed before. He is accumulating a recruiting base to help us return to competition. He hasn't had but one hurried, abbreviated recruiting class behind him. I am ecstatic that he is a magnet to new recruits. If he finishes a strong 2014 class, then I am going to feel better about Vol football than I have in a long time.

I really think Butch has some shortcomings of his own that he needs to internalize and focus on correcting (clock management, 3rd and short schemes, and hokey situational gadget plays). That being said, every coach is in that same boat. No coach is perfect. Talent is what will ultimately cover up and help hide coaching blemishes (See Les Miles at LSU the past several years). The more talent we get, the fewer "head scratching" moments we will see from Butch and Co. This recruiting class will be Butch's saving grace, imo.

You can see the frustration on butch's face mid-game when he realizes that we'd be 7-4 or 8-3 already if he had the QB he brought in here 2 years ago - Zack C.
