Gran/Wilson Fall-out thread (merged)

My vote is to hire D.J. McCarthy to replace wilson. i have no idea who we would hire to coach running backs and make up for the loss of gran at the same time.

Taylor is perfect for Montes system. he has the arrogance and speed to be a great linebacker in the SEC.

Our linebacking corps next year
King, Reveiz, Lamarcus Thompson, Lathers, Askew, Savion Frazier, Taylor, and I still think that Jacques Smith will be turned into a LB... thats just a thought tho...

I was told this because our LBs are gonna be okay next year... Luc might not have played ahead of king, taylor, etc cuz he doesnt fit the scheme perfectly and may have been redshirted...

Do i believe that?

It looks as if we are going to lose at least two assistant coaches, possibly three. How is this going to impact this years recruiting efforts? Will be lose recruits because of the staff changes?

A positive not discussed enough is of course that it still looks like Charlie Strong is leaving.

Gran leaving hurt us, but I imagine Charlie Strong leaving UF will hurt them more than Gran has hurt us.

Honestly i find Gran overrated, he built his name on signing scraps from Florida to Auburn who either didn't have offers from the Big 3, or couldn't qualify at the Big 3.

Who has he signed from Florida while here?

James Green from Tallahassee = no offer from F$U

Nukese = was not signing with Florida, i heard he contacted another school to decomit to, but was rejected before he switched here. Overrated anyway.

And this year he has 5 commits from Florida, and the only 1 with offers from the Big 3 is a kicker.

I actually think recruiting Florida is a waste of time anyway, 9 times out of 10 the kid is gonna go to UF/FSU/Miami.

I'd much rather raid Virginia/North Carolina/Maryland those states constantly lose the best players to OOS schools.

I would like to see them somehow get Garner on the staff. Georgia is a more important recruiting ground for Tennessee imo... Our championship team was built off of GA players. just dont know how we can fit him into out staff

I don't think they would go after Garner unless we lost L. Thompson. Thompson recruits the same area, coaches on defense, makes similer pay.

CLK will go after coach making less than $200k, coaches offense, and recruits in Florida, La.

I think you guys vastly overrate Georgia in the present realm. When UT was snagging monster classes from GA, UGA and GT were both having a terrible decade. From 1992-2001, both programs were much worse off than they are now. UGA won at a .646 clip (vs. .779 under Richt) and GT was at .553 and Paul Johnson is at .769 in two years at GT.

There is a much heavier pull from these in-state programs than there EVER was in Fulmer's heyday. I personally agree with whomever posted and said we should be trying to recruit in DC, Baltimore, and throughout Virginia. There isn't a top-notch program near and we could easily outcompete. We'll get out share from Georgia, but putting in extra man hours wont mean we'll get whomever we want from the Peach state like we did in the mid-90s.

The warm climate states produce better more college ready athletes.

losing these two coaches has just demoralized me, as pathetic as that sounds. i dont understand the reasons for leaving knoxville when you just got here and we're on the rise. i know its a business but its one that i will never understand. didnt see this coming, i know lsu was probably wilson's dream job but now we have lost gran and our connection to florida. we'll be alright i know but this is just depressing. i cant help feeling bitter towards these two coaches right now. you made a committment to us, we showed you love and then you ran out. i already had a father that did that to me frank and eddie. thanks.

Not sure if the names been mentioned but Brian Polian from Notre Dame looks like a great candidate to replace Gran. In the past he's been a RB coach in addition to always being a special teams coach, which all he is now. He's recruiting resume at Notre Dame speaks for itself...dominated by 4* and 5*.

reportedly Jim Harbaugh is Flying to Kansas to finalize a new coaching deal to become JayHawks new coach

We are, but I agree we could step it up. Rico Mccoy is from DC and we missed out on an OL last year from his HS who is now with the terps. Dematha in MD is a school that produces some good athletes
