Great, Great Comment by Butch Jones on ESPN

I watched the interview and I thought most was very positive, but I did sence a bit of aprehension when he made a coment about geting caught up in recruiting.
We will see how his recruiting efforts turn out, I think he's going to have a difficult time landing the highly ranked recruits....time will tell.....time is all the Vols seem to have in their favor these days
Go Vols

Our expectations for this years class must be realistic based on he is starting behind the 8 ball. I think he will still land a top 20 class and possibly even better. However, in future years he must start getting top 10-15 classes if we are going to compete with the upper echelon of the SEC. I have complete confidence he is going to be successful.

I do indeed hope your correct, but fans need to be very patient as this rebuilding job will possibly take 3-4 years, especially considering how far down we are currently

I've said it before, but I repeat - I don't think everyone at ESPN hates Tennessee. But I do honestly believe that there were people at the top, back when UT was winning, who didn't like the Vols and who did everything they could to diminish and damage the program. And yes, part of that was the "trailer park mentality" remark, part was a silly investigation into school books and tutors and part of it was just an overall sneaky kind of attitude toward us. So make your funny jokes, kids. Obviously you were not around to witness the truth.

sabatoging Peyton's heisman because it was a shoe-in.

In a very brief interview on ESPN's "College Football Live" show, Butch Jones just said "People here live and die Tennessee football, not day-to-day but on a minute-by-minute basis." I do believe the man has a good grasp concerning just how passionate we are about Big Orange football.

passion must equal lunacy :loco:

Finally, someone who understands me!

Agreed, yet I think we'll see tangible evidence of the program improving in every facet of the game each time they take the field next year. CBJ wont settle.

THIS!!...and the position he is in is like a new Captain of the Titanic telling the passengers not to bail because he can keep the ship from sinking and restore it to it's glory. He's got to sell the future while telling everyone not to look at the past. he sounds like he is in it all the way though.

If our program hopes to compete with floriduh, jawja, bammer, lsu etc. he better be hauling in top 5 classes.

Here's the way I see ESPN: their ad revenue is pegged to viewership. Where are the most CFB viewers? In the south, where during football season the weather's often fine for golf or fishin' maybe?
Or in Big 10 country (OH, MI, PA, etc) where a gazillion people live, and the weather's cold and dreary. There's nothing better to do than sit in the Laz-e-Boy, drink a brewski, and watch the game on ESPN. If they're biased toward the Big 10, it's because of $$$$.

If we are in the 10-15 range it will put us behind 5-6 other teams in the SEC. We will never compete at that lwvwl of recruiting. We need to be in the 5-10 range and then coaching can make a difference.

For Year One (Year Zero again?), I just want to see the team playing hard for four quarters. We won't have all the talent we need at first, but by God, I want to see body parts lying on the field at the end of the game, or at least bits and pieces. I know these players must have had that fire in high school, or else why did they want to play college? I want to see that back.

(Says the 58-year-old lady on the couch with a beer, flipping over to HGTV when the game gets too painful to watch.)

He still has to prove himself by the product he competes with on the field.

Profound that is. Yes. Would have never realized that might be a requirement for a HC.

Somebody offered him a certificate to Outback for he and his wife if he won a Nat. Championship.
I think that will persuade him to compete.

Getting a solid recruiting rotation going takes several years.

I won't overexpect on recruiting or on having a really good season next year.

I want to see consistent improvements being made and players on the field playing toughnosed Tennessee football where they never quit for 60 minutes.

I think CBJ and his staff are going to be the toughnosed type of coaches we've been needing for 10 years that will not ask but will demand excellence and 100% effort at all times on and off the field.

I'm optomistic with what I've seen so far.

ESPN loves us?

While we're slamming on ESPN did anyone hear the absolute moron (cant remember his name) on with Bayliss completely going off about RG111 and how disgusted he was with him having a white girlfriend yada yada yada and ended his racist rant by saying its reported RG111 is actually a Republican....THIS IS WHATS WRONG WITH THE WORLD....RG111 said he's not a black or white QB....he is a QB, peroid....I knew I liked this kid and now I have a ton of respect for him....Its hard to stand in this day without criticism....OK I feel better and off to ESPN.com to express my displeasure....

^^ This

Also, next year will be rough due to schedule. CBJ will have his hands full his first year out.
