Great win Vols - NCAA at large bid??

I would rather have a good NIT run than got to the big dance and lose the first game. Obviously, nothing is guaranteed, we can beat anyone in the country, and we can also lose in the first round of the NIT.

All I am saying is that I think some tournament experience, learning how to win in a loser goes home situation would benefit the team for next year.

No way. NCAA bid over NIT bid 100% of the time. Get in the NCAA and anything can happen. Look at UConn last year, came out of nowhere to win it all. GOing to be difficult but the VOls still have an outside shot at the NCAA tourney. 5 SEC teams will get in and we are currently tied for 5th in the SEC standings .At the same time, we have most of our difficult games out of the way. We're positioned well for a strong finish. Play like they did yesterday and we win out.

we can lose one more, win two in the tourney, and then go to the dance, we certainly have a chance, positive thinking isn't a terrible thing

Also, 7 straight NCAA tourneys in a row would continue to lead the SEC in this category. 6 in a row more than any other team, including KY

We have to win the battle for 5th place in the SEC standings. Not likely they'll take more than 5 teams this season.
Also have to get our RPI to 50 or better.
Winning out and playing in SEC championship game would probably do it.
Can it be done?

If the last 10 games a team plays carry more weight than the first 10 (as some ESPN guys suggest) I think you have to consider them for an at-large bid (assuming they finish strong). I think it's important in UT's case because their best player didnt join the team until after Christmas - so they're literally a different team now then when they played APSU for example.

Maymon has been playing all year.not since christmas.Stokes is good but hes not better than Maymon, right now

As much as Tennessee has played on T.V. this year everyone knows they can be either really great or terrible. However the NCAA tournament loves upsets.. That is Tennessee's only chance. They know Tennessee can beat anybody.

The only problem is this big win doesn't mean we don't stink up the next game. Unfortunately, that's been the story of this team. I hope we win out, but if I were a betting man I wouldn't put money on it.

I wasn't able to watch all the game yesterday but great win on the road against a top 10 team. If the Vols are able to win out and maybe make a strong run in the conference tournament - I think you'll be able to make a case for an at-large bid. Espcially if other conference trounaments finish chalk the way this team is playing now is hard to deny.

(1) 18 wins (2) wins against UConn, Florida at home and Florida away. (3) decent run in the S.E.C. tourney.

no, we can't beat just anybody. sorry

So they beat UCONN, Florida twice and gave a bunch of other TOP 25 teams the games of thier life and you still think they can't compete with anyone? Either your just trying to start an argument or your blind. Since SEC play this team has grown and showed what it can do.

if tennessee wins out..and the ncaa don't take us, we have a right to be mad.

UK is dancing
Florida is dancing (sweep)
Vandy is dancing (split)

the only teams with a shot is

bama (not happening because were beating them next week and im guessing they have serious internal problems and i think were a tough enough team to keep up with that defense even if all their players are back)

miss state (lol....they have some decent games coming up and i could see them losing a lot. They always start hot and fall on their face)

ole miss (they are not a good team and just catch fire every now and then...i see them dropping a few games. We should hammer them.

Arkansas (its in knoxville and too bad they dont play every game at home)

Committee might take a look at how UT has played since Stokes joined the team. It would be interesting, considering how well they've played after Christmas.

I agree and the committee may give some consideration to the fact we have a new coach and it took time to get his system in place. We still need to win out. IMO

Quick look at our RPI
We are at around RPI 110 now.
If we win out we will should move up at least 50 spots to get to RPI 60. When looking at these, remember road wins count more than home wins when calculating RPI.
@ florida moved us up around 30
vs Ark (RPI 65) moves us up 6
@ Ala (RPI 29) moves us up 12
vs Miss (RPI 53) moves us up 8
@ SCar (RPI 167) moves us up 2
vs Van (RPI 24) moves us up 15
@ LSU (RPI 74) moves us up 8

I believe this is a conservative estimate. We win a couple of games in the SEC tourney and the RPI be at least in the 50s. This RPI + our momenum will get us into the NCAA. First we have to beat Arkansas and then Alabama and so on and so forth. Maybe not reality but it is possible imo.

Win against probable NCAA tourney teams-UNC-Asheville(19-7), Florida twice (19-6), UCONN (15-9).

Losses against definate non-NCAA tourney teams- Oakland (14-13), Austin Peay (9-18), and Georgia (12-12).

I guess it matters how they look at it.:dunno:

Tennessee has zero chance for an at-large bid.

If you think the odds of winning out are zero, then yes, there won't be an at-large bid. But, if Tennessee wins the next six games, they'll be in the discussion when the SECT starts.

Theres no doubt that Tennessee isn't a team that a 5 seed or better wants to play in round 1. I'm not trying to say any of those teams are scared of us. I'm just thinkin they'd rather play someone a little less risky. Cause at our best we can beat just about anyone. With that said we can also loose to just about anyone and thats why I think we don't make it in.

Even winning out and a strong showing in the SEC tournament may be too little too late. Those 12 loses, against the likes of Austin Peay at home, will be very hard to overcome. We will be sitting on the wrong side of the bubble at best, I am afraid.

We aren't going to win out, though.

We wont win out, but of we did and then win 1 in the tourney we would be in. 20 wins, 2 over florida, one would be over vandy and uconn. 11-5 in sec play would be tough to keep them out.

we won't win out. nit bound, but that's ok.
Don't forget that we still have to finish 500 or better just to make the NIT. We may be getting to the softer part of our schedule but now all the teams left to play (excluding vandy) are going to be must win situations when they play us its going to be tough. Who would've thought our first road win of the season would come this late in the season and against a top 10 team lol

Not saying we win out. But if we did, we would be in the dance. We would most likely finish or at least be tied for second in sec if we won out.

I can't get excited about NIT at all.
