You can build a recruiting class from national exposure such as making to the championship of the NIT . Memphis coach josh pastner, in his first yr, made to the nit and with success there finished up the #1 recruiting class in the nation... That didnt bring the recruits in but it did give them enough promise for the future. I was at the fedex forum last month to watch Memphis outplay

josh would have had that class whether they lost every game in the year or went to the ncaa, he recruited the ish out of memphis that year, and there was no changing that.

the exposure of a ncaa trip is a million times more of that of a nit trip. its not even comparable.

wrong again
The battle for 3,4 and 5 positions in SEC rankings is wide open.
7 teams are in the mix, including TN.
2 teams have 4 losses but have yet to play KY. (M St, Vandy)
4 teams are 5-5
LSU is 4-6.
TN plays 5 of the seven teams.
2 are road games. (Bama , LSU)

Current RPIs
Vandy 27 H
Bama 31 A
Ole Miss 50 H
Ark 68 H
LSU 76 A

We could probably even have 1 loss to LSU and get the 5th position.
Rather we win out.
Probably have to play in the SEC championship game to get our RPI high enough. (currently 107-110)
Not saying it will happen. Just mathematically possible to still make the dance.

I would rather have a good NIT run than got to the big dance and lose the first game. Obviously, nothing is guaranteed, we can beat anyone in the country, and we can also lose in the first round of the NIT.

All I am saying is that I think some tournament experience, learning how to win in a loser goes home situation would benefit the team for next year.

You're absolutely loony if you'd take a good NIT run over a one and done in the NCAAT.

I can't wait to see how this team does in the SEC tournament. I really don't think teams will want to play us. By March, I have to think this team will have the "us vs the world" mindset and ready to leave it all out on the floor. This team can be dangerous.

wrong again!

Look at Alabama 2011. I know the bubble is weak, but the committee will have a hard time finding a spot for a team with losses on the road to Oakland, C of C and Georgia and a home loss to Austin Peay. The saving grace may be several potential quality wins, the fact most of those losses came without a quality contributor and a potentially good final 10 game win total. That said, I still think the negative outweigh the positives and I believe this team will probably only go 4-2 over its next six games.

if we only go 4-2 then you are right, we'd have to win sec t, but if we go better than that there is a chance. the committee has openly said they put more weight on the last 2 months than the first 2, and that they put weight on addition/losses to teams, both of these scenarios benefit us greatly.

im not saying it's likely we will get in, but if we make a good solid run down the stretch it is very possible that we will get in.

It is absurd to say that we have "no chance" to make it to the NCAAT. Is it likely? No. But, winning out and any sort of decent showing in the SECT would get us in. The committee definitely looks at how teams do down the stretch, especially since we have added one of the top prospects in the country.

Bingo!

maybe people will listen to you since youre a mod, even after i broke it down very clearly showing we have a chance mathmetically, people still say we dont

Possible, yes. Likely, no. I fear we're counting chickens before they hatch with the remaining games. It will be interesting to see how the team responds knowing that they have a chance to make the dance.

I said exactly what he said...and you disagreed lol?

Oh well...

he said decent showing in sec t, you pretty much said we had to make it to the championship

plus he didnt say thats the ONLY way, because its not

we can mathmatically go 5-1 in sec and then win 3 in sec t and be in pretty easily, we can win 2 in sec t and be a bubble team.

the simplest way to look at it is this...the sec will get 6 teams in maybe 7. if tennessee can finish 4th or 5th they are going to have a hell of a case to the committee. right now they are tied for 4th, keep winning and the only place you can go is up.

thats something im interested in as well. griff wrote an article today that mentions they are mathmatically still alive for ncaa berth, so word is starting to get around.

it will definitely be interesting.

I said "going far". That doesn't mean championship. If they can 2 games without a bye I think they're good.

:p

ok to me that isnt going far, thatd technically be going halfway actually :)

you should know the difference with only going halfway and getting far :)

So, there are 4 byes...would we have to run out to get the 4-spot?

heres the standings:

UK:11-0
UF: 7-3
MST:6-4
VAND:6-4
Bama:5-5
OMiss:5-5
Arky:5-5
Tenn:5-5
LSU:4-6
Auburn:3-7
Georgia:3-8
USCjr:1-9

we dont have to run the table, but we need others to lose. one thing to keep an eye on is florida, we hold the tie breaker. so if we were to win out and florida lose 2, we would hurdle them for the position. i fully expect Miss St. to lose a few more, and if we win our next few games we should slide right into 4th over Miss St. Also, Vandy has to go to Rupp and home for florida, thats atleast 1 more loss, and if we beat them thats 2.

its really too early to be able to say what it'll take because there is so much time left, but i'll make my prediction. if tennessee goes 6-0 they finish 2nd in the sec, because vandy will have 2 more losses, Miss St is gonna lose, and we hold the tie break with UF.

If we go 5-1 i expect we probably finish 4th, and maybe 3rd depending on what UF does, they still go to vandy and home vs UK.
