yall are way too harsh on nic cage. now, i'm not gona try to convince anyone here's a GREAT actor but he's got some bangers. just off the top of my head:

-8mm
-snake eyes
-all the jerry bruckheimer movies
-joe
-pig
-adaptation
-leaving las vegas

some are nothing more than entertaining popcorn movies, but some are genuinely great movies.

Yes
A few are good. I enjoyed watching the national treasure movies with my daughter. Leaving Las Vegas was depressing AF!

I think he's a fine actor, people just don't get him. He's in on the joke. He doesn't care. He can deliver an Oscar performance playing an alcoholic in a tragedy but is that fun? Does it pay well? The answer to either is no. Dude is just out there making popcorn movies playing the same amped up personality and cashing checks.

If you're talking about actors both past and present, then John Wayne takes the trophy hands down. From his cadence to his mannerisms, nothing ever changed, and yet he was usually entertaining anyway.

If you're just talking about actors in the present, then I would go with Matthew McConaughey .... with the notable exception of the Dallas Buyers Club, he is the same a-hole in every movie.

Not a great actor, but Adam Sandler. Although I've heard he's great in Uncut Gems.

If he takes on a role outside the Happy Madison universe, it's usually some version of himself, but he does a good job. Spanglish is great. I loved Punch Drunk Love.

Uncut Gems is like watching a heart attack, but he's really good in it.

Cage should have won an Oscar for Valley Girl.

Like, for sure.
I forgot about Valley Girl. It really is a surprisingly funny movie. I loved the driver's ed. scene with Les from WKRP. It's hilarious. I had a thing for Deborah Foreman (Julie) back in the day too. It's strange she didn't have a better career.

True Detective season 1 is one of the best tv/cinema I’ve ever watched . I thought he should’ve won an Emmy for Rust Cohle. Woody probably should’ve won one too.

Imagine being close friends with another cool millionaire for 20 years and then the two of you get to go get high all day, play around in a swamp, and make that masterpiece? Some dudes are living life on a level we can't even fathom.

IMO, the only way you convincingly play those characters is if you are those characters in real life. At least to an extent. I think we've all come across people with those dispositions in real life...they nailed everything about that kind of person. The cynicism, mannerisms, general disposition, little sayings/phrases they'd drop in their speech, how their mouth moves when they speak (especially Woody), the accent, etc. There were so many little details they peppered in with their acting that were obvious to me and probably most southerners. They nailed the characters because they were probably just being themselves.

She's just been around show biz for 10 to 12 years, mostly through friends. Now she's actually in show biz. She's got a show coming up on a major network, but I'll never reveal more than that here.
That’s great. I hope she has a lot of success. I can’t imagine how hard that has to be to get to that level in that business. Best of luck to her.

She didn't actually work that hard at that career. She did work hard at her other career. She got in because she has a magnetic personality and with all her access, it was a matter of time before somebody gave her an opportunity.

I mentioned this ITOT about Bruce Willis, but there are certain actors who pretty much just play themselves in every role and you still love them. Who makes your list?

John Wayne
Bruce Willis
Ryan Reynolds
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Chris Farley

I tried to think of female actors. I don't think there are many big female stars who lack range. Anna Faris came to mind. Her dumb girl bit gets me every time.
Bruce Campbell. My hero. Greatest ever.

Brad Pitt is the best actor in Hollywood, and with the most range.

He and Daniel Day Lewis are probably 1a and 1b
