All this talk about China being an economic or military power, but last I there's still about 90 countries by most metrics that I would rather be born in. Sure they might play a heavy hand because of their growing economy, but how long can that be sustained with a population that is being relatively held down?

At this point, we are our own worst enemy.

Fun fact: In all federal elections in 2008, the campaign who had better funding won 95% of the time. It was still north of 90% in 2010.

Interesting - of course it begs the question of better/more competitive candidates being more likely to attract funds. Money flows to likely winners.

Yeah, corporations help themselves simply by donating more (cause they often donate to both major candidates) to the candidate they think will win.

It could be the case, but the fact is that to get in the game, you have to be under the umbrella of the Dems or GOP, and to get under either umbrella, you have to be willing to bring home the bacon to the party and your district. The more willing to play ball with monied interests that you are, the more money you bring the party and the higher you go.

Some companies hedge their bets, but many still fund one side or the other. I think the evidence shows that the money leads the votes, not the other way around.
