King says he will take all five of his official visits, beginning with Texas Tech this weekend."They've always been in the picture but they went through the coaching situation and Lane Kiffin and I had a face to face talk," King explained. "We talked about me and he said that looking at me inspired him recruiting me as a player.

"I feel like if you're trying to make me a better person in school and not just the football field, I'm all for it. He said a lot of good things that I wanted to hear. I received it all real well. My mom said that she really liked him, too."

Had no idea this guy was such a beast til watching his videos.

An official visit was set up for King to visit the Volunteers on January 16th. A trip to Miami had previously been booked for the week after. To start it all off, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect will take an official visit to Texas Tech this weekend.

"Tech has been in the picture from the get go. They haven't let up at all. They haven't once said they've needed to rethink the situation."

In fact, it was the Red Raiders coaching staff that came to see King, just 24 hours before Kiffin.

"Coach Simmons and the defensive coordinator came and sat down at the house. They talked to me a lot. They're pretty excited to get to know me and my family. They're ready for me to come down."

looks like TT is our real comp

This guy would be amazing. He is a beast. Who wants to be a linebacker in the big 12 anyways? Talk about the worst defenses and a whole lot of running after recievers.

Yup, I think it's between us and TT-- but I have a good feeling we'll get him too. If he was sold on Texas Tech, he would've committed already with all the attention they've given him.

Let's see....get second-class status in Big 12 or play for Monte Kiffin...what's better?

Yeah, I'd pick Orange Swarm too.

This dude is the type of player that would fit Kiffin's D. Would be a good player for us in a year. He needs a year but while he's learning he could be a special teams monster.

The Hurricanes had success in recent years pulling players like Graig Cooper and Carlos Armour out of Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose High School.

And now another player from Melrose has caught UM's eye - linebacker Greg King.

King was initially offered a Cane scholarship in the spring, but then he says UM stopped recruiting him.

Last week Miami got back in touch with him.

"They've been on me now," King said. "Me and coach (Micheal) Barrow talked. He was telling me we need a linebacker, why not have me? He said `We're waiting on you. If you're thinking about redshirting don't even think about coming to Miami.' He was telling me what I wanted to hear, basically."

King has set up an official visit to UM for the weekend of Jan. 24.

So far he's already visited Texas Tech, and he's set to visit Tennessee Jan. 17.

"I'll try to see Alabama also," he said.

Those are his top four.

"They're all even," he says.

King says he talks with Cooper and Armour when they return home.

"They say Miami is a place where things can happen, that it's a good place football wise and academic wise," King said. "They said it's just been a little struggles lately but it's good football there."

What is King looking for in a college program?

"Just basically the academics and the team," he said. "If I can come in and be able to play that's big. I'm trying to play as a freshman."

This past season King finished with 130 tackles, four forced fumbles and four sacks.

TTU is the leader as of right now. After he makes it to UT for an official, I think he is all ours. Has never been to UT.

"Texas Tech is the leader," King said. "I've not been anywhere else. That's all I know. It's all going to boil down to how I feel with the team and coaches. It's all about feeling comfortable and seeing myself there for the next 3 or 4 years."

King will make his inaugural trip to Knoxville on January 16th. It's a visit that he's looking forward to because of a growing relationship with new Vol head coach Lane Kiffin.

"I never been to Tennessee," King said. "Nobody has a position (locked up). It's brand new and everyone is equal. I think that I can come in and play early there because I have faith in my ability. Coach (Lane) Kiffin is a cool person. He doesn't sugar coat anything. He keeps it real and I appreciate that.

"They call me when they are allowed too. Coach Kiffin is cool people. He doesn't try to act like he's all that. I don't care what his record was in Oakland. That don't matter to me."

"It makes me feel good," King said. "It makes me feel special. We are going to get together and find out what they are all about. I know they are cool people. I have people down there and I know it will be great. I'm looking forward to it."
