ESPNU 150 Gator pledge Greg Reid back on market

ESPNU 150 prospect Greg Reid of Lowndes County (Valdosta, Ga.), who had committed to Florida on Junior Day, has decided to reopen his recruitment.

Stating that he made a decision far too early, Reid now wants to experience the entire process and look at other schools in the SEC and ACC. He is still interested in the Gators.

Reid is rated No. 13 among athletes nationally and No. 106 overall in the Class of 2009. He expected to play defensive back at Florida.

no i didn't see anything about us on there but with our staff i thought maybe since he's opened things back up it would be worth looking into. :)

i'm not sure if we were ever after him. he said he committed way to early. i just found this other article that looks like he favors UGA now.

Early speculation has Reid heading to Georgia

Georgia could potentially be adding some serious talent to its defensive backfield in the coming weeks.

The recent news of athlete Greg Reid (Valdosta, Ga./Lowndes) backing out of the longstanding commitment to Florida bodes well for the Bulldogs. At practice for the Under Armour All-American game, Reid was hanging out with other UGA commits and the word is that the Bulldogs are the clear team to beat.

Reid is a speedy athlete who many believe could be the best cornerback in the game.

It seems he and Smith are gonna be Bulldogs...that's gonna be quite a cornerback tandem.

yeah it will be quite a tandem. i think it's just too late in the game to try and sway some of these top recruits but i hope we will get a few surprises on NSD.

I feel it is going to come down to UGA or Florida. 50/50 at this point I think. He is still taking another visit to Florida on the 16th. Said he wanted to open up his options to make sure he picked the right team. Said academics and the chance to play defense was a factor. Florida wants to make him a wr, not a db. After watching an interview with him last night I feel he will end up a bulldog. Hurts us because Florida wanted him bad. He is a ball player for sure.

do you think UF might change that to keep him?

From what I heard on the Gator Insider forum it was never said he only could play wr, but he was told they would like to give him a look there. I think that was really not a big reason in this decision but just something he was using as an excuse. He said he still has Florida high on his list, and he is making the visit. I just don't have a good feeling about him. Listening to him I got the impression he is thinking he can go someplace and start as a freshman. That's not going to happen at UF. I wish the kid the best whatever happens.

CLK likes playing freshmen according to every interview I've heard from him since he got the job. I wonder if that's just a recruiting thing right now to try and sway some talent to the Vols?

He looked great during the UA AA game tonight. Was named player of the game with two INTs.

Let's see what the ace recruiting team can do.

If he's all gator why did he decommit? From everything I'm hearing though, you have a 50/50 shot with UGA

If he was "ALL" Gator....he wouldn't be looking.
We'll have to wait and see. Everything points to UF. The kid commits a year and half ago and gets a little "love" from all D1 coaches (rightfully so b/c GA player of the year) and he wants to have his day in the sun. He also stepped back to make sure he is making the right decision. He is all gator, IMO. He says UF still lead and UGA is not even in the picture. He will be the next Brandon James/Janoris Jenkins at UF. Meyer will make him the priority in this class along with Jelani Jenkins. We should finish strong with a top 5 class. Hopefully this doesn't sound arrogant b/c I do not intend for it to be. I do not know it all, I'm just saying what I think and is being reported among many Gator faithful. I hope we get him, he's a good one!

I feel good about Reid now. All he could talk about last night after the game was how great it was over the weekend to hang with all the Gator guys Saturday. He seemed to be the most excited person last night when Debose committed.Greg was talking today about how is heart is still with Florida. I think UGA has an outside shot, but after Urban gets him on campus on the 16th he will be back with Florida.
