I for one am not convinced of Hart's dedication to the basketball program. He has been a part of 3 only NCAAT teams in his career as an athletic director. We must also keep in mind that Hart supported Dooley til the bitter end and was and did fight for him. That to me is a real problem.

I think Hart is emboldened by his hiring of Butch Jones though.

Unfortunately, I can also see that hire convincing him that he can find another Butch Jones for basketball instead of going after the obvious choice.

Great read...thanks for posting the link.

My concern lies with the powers that be at UT that will be making this decision. In my experiences dealing with the egos of the 'decision-makers' in any institution, there's a natural resistance to doing anything that wasn't their idea originally.

In other words, Hart/Cheek & others may end up not hiring CBP (assuming there's an opening in the near future) just because us 'plebes' are demanding it, and because the national media is now saying it would be a good idea.

I hope this isn't the case.

True that , folks of that ilk are difficult deal with. A close second is the my way or the highway type. :ermm:

I wasn't on board with bringing Bruce back but I sure am now.

It actually is the perfect hire. He did his time as did UT.

Agree with first part but he got lucky there because that coaching search was a cluster f@@@.

To the second point, I would tend to agree that Hart prob thinks he can hire an up-and-comer who will be lights out but I do not think he can or will unless it is CBP. Especially considering that the booger eater himself will likely accompany him on the interviews when they do occur. The B E should sit his happy a@@ at home during that process.

I'm usually the non forgiving type in sports...but in this case there is NO ONE that UT could hire that would do more for the school & state than Bruce Pearl. Hart knows this & I think will look deeply into it unless bugger picker nips it in the bud....and why is DePiedro (sp?) always SO quiet?

A great effort, but IMO will have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Pearl is rehired here.

If each signature had a check for season tickets attached it just might. Otherwise I believe you are correct.

It is a no brainer because of several reasons. The fans would support basketball again with crowds in the 18 to 20 thousand range. Pearl would have Tennessee basketball back on the national map immediately. He would not get in any kind of trouble again would be the safest hire we could make. The boosters need to support the fans and for one time in their lives do what the fans want. The petition is gonna get the 50000 names probably within another month. The excitement and the revenue gained by a Pearl return is extreme as to what is going on now.

The situation that remains is the CCM may win this last four games. If he does he saves His job. We go to the NCAA and come back next season for another year of Cuonzo ball. He may not make it through that entire season, but if he get us in he is our coach next season.
How do you know for sure he won't get in any trouble? He knew right from wrong the last time.

21,000 signatures last I saw...that would almost fill TBA. I'm getting season tkts again if we BBB!

This is not the truth. If you think that Hart will not re hire Pearl if the BOT gives him the approval nod then something tells me that you have not been following this closely. Hart is interested in Pearl and what he brings to the table he just needs the approval to bring him back and more are opened to it than they have been.

Once again Hart is a basketball minded AD and knows what it takes to have a winning program and he knows that it takes a winning coach. Hart is making a pitch to the University to BBB. I think that when a change is made it will be Bruce's job to loose.

It will be a great day in Vol nation to see Pearl walk the sideline once again in his Orange clad blazer. Also here is a question for you. Why would you think that Tony Jones is staying around Knoxville along with Pearl? I do think that if and when Pearl is re-hired Tony will be his first addition on his staff

I heard a stat somewhere that harts basketball hires have been to 3 NCAA tournaments in 27 years or something close to that.

I rarely post but I heard some disturbing comments from Mickey Dearstone, regarding Bruce Pearl, on the radio this morning and felt the need. I'm not looking to get bashed regarding my opinions and most of you have probably forgotten more about this situation than I know, but I really believe that if Bruce is in the running for the job, if it opens up, he needs to address those statements Mickey made. I don't even listen to sports radio that often but I have noticed that Mickey really, really carries the water for the Lady Vols and that's totally understandable. Sometimes he can be comical in his defense of the Lady Vols coaching staff so I'm willing to take his Bruce Pearl comments with a grain of salt. But I felt they were really serious and I would like to hear some clarification from some of you that know more about what Mickey said. Thanks!

Spot on. Kinda like the gruden deal. I think they were reluctant to even reach out to him mainly because of the fan base's influence
