Gregg Doyel: No brainer to hire Bruce back

As far as the Jones hire, I will continue to say the jury is still out. Yes he's recruited well, but more time is needed to judge his ability to win on the field.

Having CCM was essentially, for Tennessee basketball, being on probation for the last three years. Bruce Pearl AND Tennesee Hoops have both learned a valuable lesson to be sure.

Is it a valuable enough lesson to result in a re-hiring of Pearl.? I hope so, but doubt it.

if they run the programs like a business then BBB is a no-brainer - I gave up my season tickets when UT fired Pearl - I would be first in line if they hire him back.

Funny you should use that phrase ... this is what I put in my email to Hart and Cheek:

"From a pure business perspective, bringing back CBP would appear to be a no-brainer for Tennessee, given the type of coach that is required to make Tennessee Basketball successful. I think a risk/reward analysis would support the risk. CBP has the right mix of coaching ability, marketing acumen, connection with students and alumni, community involvement and an apparent love for the school and East Tennessee area. I believe the publicity generated by such a move and perception of the University would be positive.

As a current Tennessee Fund member, if Tennessee hires Bruce Pearl, I will add an additional $500 to my annual donation."

Because you think they are better coaches, better fits, or you just think BBB is a fairy tale?

Honestly, both.

Pearl is a good coach, but I would look at those coaches before him. They are also very good coaches and don't have the baggage associated with them.

I like Pearl, but he had his chance and blew it. People want to blame UT, yet this all falls on him. Period.

Still blindly standing by Conzo i see.... look, it's not hard to change your avi. I wouldn't go down with the ship just because you don't want to have to change your avi. such a silly reason. I say this because it's surely the only logical reason you continue to slurp Conzo.

You were a dooley guy too, aye?

How is my post you quoted defending Martin?

I rarely post but I heard some disturbing comments from Mickey Dearstone, regarding Bruce Pearl, on the radio this morning and felt the need. I'm not looking to get bashed regarding my opinions and most of you have probably forgotten more about this situation than I know, but I really believe that if Bruce is in the running for the job, if it opens up, he needs to address those statements Mickey made. I don't even listen to sports radio that often but I have noticed that Mickey really, really carries the water for the Lady Vols and that's totally understandable. Sometimes he can be comical in his defense of the Lady Vols coaching staff so I'm willing to take his Bruce Pearl comments with a grain of salt. But I felt they were really serious and I would like to hear some clarification from some of you that know more about what Mickey said. Thanks!

Dearstone is a clown. End of story.

And Scott Drew doesn't have baggage? Buzz William makes like 2.5 mil doubt we would spend 3 mil on a basketball coach. Does McDermott have another son, he's a Wade Houston 2.0.

That wasn't the criteria of your original post?

It was what I meant, but did not spell everything out.

Name 5 guys who Tennessee could actually hire that would be better than pearl.....keeping in mind that pearl went to six straight NCAA tourneys and achieved a #1 ranking at Tennessee.

There aren't five guys out there as good as Bruce that Tennessee could go get.

So, curious as to who everyone thinks Bruce would hire as assistants if he were to get hired. Obviously probably not many from his old staff after last time, and good assistants are crucial in recruiting.. wondered who ya'll thought he'd hire.

When did Drew receive a show cause?

Greg McDermott took Northern Iowa to 3 straight tourney appearances when his son was in pre-K.

And the others on my list?

Next.

No point because I'll list names and you'll respond with yea right, or no way.

So honestly no point.

The most outrageous thing 3 years later is still that lying to NCAA investigators could be worse than the original infraction. How ridiculous. Pearl is a top 10 coach nationally btw.

Well I used the link to the athletic department to send our "fearless" leader Mr Hart an email expressing my feelings to rehire Bruce.

Interesting question. I don't think any of the previous staff could return. Who he could hire should be a matter of discussion if UT was actually having a discussion with him about returning.

Did you get a response?

Nope. Don't suspect I will either. I'm not a big money donor, just an old alumnus that has been giving back a little bit for many, many years.

Their admins screen all the email traffic to the address that is available. I sent one last night, but I followed up with another one today with the subject line ... "Tennessee Fund". Thought at least they might open it.

As I posted above, it read:

I suspect I will only hear from them, if they do hire CBP and want their extra $500.

I wasn't sure if the NCAA would allow them to be rehired or not, I remember a few of them being pretty upset about how it all played out. especially Slay's wife. I'll be really curious to see who he hires, IF he is hired.

Ron Slay's wife? What's she got to do with this? :)
