Gridiron Cats may be in trouble

Well looks like it'll just be an average class with a bunch of 3*s. Lewis get stolen by FSU, and another current player Josh Clemons transfers. He never played much because of injuries, but sucks I guess.

You need to get calipari to recruit for your football team. I really hope you lose in the NCAA, but the only team that will beat UK is UK. Congrats on your mercenary basketball team, I am guessing you are very proud.

Not really. I grew up in Kentucky.

I really hope UK loses in the NCAA.

It's all good. Saw the other post about Cal and didn't know if something was making you butthurt. Hope UT makes the tourney, last night was a tough game to lose. CDT has done well so far.

I really don't give a **** about college basketball anymore. The one and done mercenary team concept is pretty much ruining the game. UK/UNC/Duke/ and a couple others are where it's at for the NBA bound youngsters. Enjoy.

I still hope you lose.

Like I said it's all good. I always say to people that complain about it, is that almost every other coach in the nation would die to have this recruiting. And honestly, would a 2-3 rule fix anything? You think that UK, Kansas, UNC, Duke, etc wouldn't still pull top 5 classes? They would. if anything you'd be seeing a team with Irving/Rivers/Parker for Duke and a Davis/Noel/Randle for UK. Elite players would still pick elite schools.

We had like 11 dudes return last year. Just because you recruit the best players doesn't mean they always choose the succeed and proceed plan

No, they need to let 'em go right out of HS if they are good enough. And of course they would pull top 5 classes. The fact that you even pose that question shows how out of touch UK fans are from their lofty perch. I could recruit to that program at this point in time.

And I know this will generate some response, but if UT wouldn't have been stupid enough to fire CBP, we would be much more competitive than we are now...

1. Agreed about the HS to NBA.

2. I answered the question in my own post. It was obviously sarcasm.
You think that UK, Kansas, UNC, Duke, etc wouldn't still pull top 5 classes? They would.

3. Could you have recruited a number one class after a NIT year and taken them to the Elite 8? No. Very few coaches could have done it. I agree it's easier to recruit here. Same as UT football, maybe even better in its respective sport. There's a big tradition and lots of history. Impossible to answer, but not many could ever recruit like Cal does. You sound like Dallas in the BF arguing he could coach a 40-0 team while he's 17.

4. Another big what-if situation that is hard to answer. CBP is a good coach, but he's gone and probably never coming back to UT. At the end of the day he did some stuff that got him fired, whether or not he deserves to come back, CDT is the coach and deserves 100% support. On the subject of what-ifs...what if Coach K was fired after his first couple bad years at Duke? Where would he be and would Duke have ever won championships? Would he ever reach 1000? Things happen, and unfortunately good or bad it's just how it works out.

If the one year rule is rescinded, the quality spread around will be a little better.

When a program is incredibly successful, it runs on autopilot to an extent. EVERYBODY wants to go to Bama.. EVERYBODY wants to go to Oregon. EVERYBODY wants to go to UK.

Calipari is still an ass... but he's YOUR ass, so you like him. He ****ed Memphis. Nuff said.

I support CDT, but firing CBP for the reasons he got fired was stupid. A year or two of probation would have been nothing...

Cats stole a nice JUCO from #HAILSTATE at the 11th hour, so up to 23 signees. Stoops did the best he could after 6 high-ranked kids flipped.

I don't think the quality would spread as much as you think. You'd still be seeing the best guys who don't take the nba road, deciding to go to the elite schools. They would have to stay there at least a couple years. I guess it depends on the balance of guys who leave, and the less turnover programs have year to year. Interesting to look into. On average there's maybe a few guys in each class that is nba ready? Im sure more would leave and go D-League, but who knows.

I agree a program can kind of sit back and it's a bit easier to get recruits once you've established a winning tradition. But Cal came in after a NIT year, and immediately grabbed the number one class. Bama still works its ass to recruit in football. UK still works its hardest around the country to get BB recruits. Do they have to work as hard as a team like UT maybe? Yeah, it's possible. But certainly Cal isn't sitting in his office chair all day twiddling thumbs.

I thought it was interesting we got a JUCO guy that originally committed in 2013. Used to be a top 400 recruit before injuries.

You cannot seriously be comparing basketball recruiting to football recruiting. Basketball is eeeeeeeasy comparatively. You only need 3 or 4 guys a year.. I guess in KY's case you need 15...

As far as the quality spread, you might be right, but you certainly wouldn't have the abomination you have right now.

I don't know if you can say it's easier just because numbers of recruits are different. I mean, just logically thinking about it there are a lot less high school basketball players than there are football players right?

It's definitely harder to go around and visit all your recruits for football. Its a much larger scale job for the staff to do when you have hundreds of players to evaluate. You look at that and it's not a suprise so many NFL players come from non-power 5 schools. It's just impossible to nail every player correctly when you see them a couple times.

I was comparing in terms of how hard UK basketball works to get recruits vs how hard others schools (like UT) work to get their recruits. Never intended to say our basketball recruiting to your football recruiting. Simply to say it's not the cakewalk you imagine. You implied the recruiting is "on autopilot". It certainly isn't. You see Butch/Saban visiting recruits, and you see lots of elite coaches like Cal jetting around doing the same.

Source says Barker is listed as a victim on the police report. Fwiw. Don't know how legit this is or implications.

Oh I didn't mean that Calipari was sitting on his hands. He just goes after all the 5+++ star recruits, and that isn't that hard. Kind of like Tiger Woods after he signed with Nike. The money pressure was off so all he had to do was to train for the major tournaments. Calipari only has to make a handful of trips each season.

See, you should have stopped and went no further at this point. You're out of your comfort zone, because you obviously have no experience with a hoops program that is incredibly successful.

I grew up 20 miles from you. I know all about UK basketball. That's why I went to UT. The koolaid that is passed out in that state tastes awful.

A handful of trips? Please, I know you don't follow UK BB but he travels a lot. Spends thousands and thousands of money flying around to see top recruits. Spends a ton of time hosting visitors when the come. And on top of that has to manage a large turnover of players every year.

The same type of koolaid is all over the nation. Every year fans dream of high expectations and winning. I'm glad we have a bunch of crazy people that support the program than a small number of people who expect mediocrity.
