Money talks and so does success. FSU has a much better opportunity for Jay to showcase his skill as a coach to jump to a better job.

Staying at UT and being a part of rebuilding this program would have been priceless for his coaching resume. Last year's success was just the to of the iceberg for him.

Unless he believes otherwise. By otherwise I mean the chances of rebuilding to a significant power are low in his mind.

No arguments there. I think UT is better of without him if he didn't believe in Butch's system. Better for Jay and for UT. Confidence, belief, and preparation are what will bring us back; no room for doubt, fear, or disbelief. Anyone who is scared, uncomfortable, or feeling sorry for themselves should leave.

I hope Butch does it. I really do. But I ain't holding my breath.

The coaching business people move around all the time. We might be making too much out of this, but given recent history, makes me uncomfortable every time I read this kind of news.

You can't have a system where it's "win right now" or coaches can lose their jobs at any moment and expect a whole lot of loyalty. They see a better opportunity, they take it. That's how it is nowadays, and college football fans have asked for it with the "we want championships right now or fire everyone" mentality.

This has nothing to do with anything but $$. When you are talking about raises on the order of 6 figures and more you have to think about it. I wish Jay was still with us but he did what he thought he needed to do for he and his family. Good luck to him, and lets go find another good guy. That said it sure does suck he left. Maybe we should make another run at Tee...

We really don't know what went on, it could be like you say that he saw the writing on the wall, or he simply did not fit Jones system, or other hard to fathom reason. Sooner or later, we will get our answers.

If Jay leaving derails Butch, then he is not the guy. Like I said, there is no room for doubters, or individualism in the war room at UT right now.

We will probably never know the real reason he left. I'm assuming it is for a lot more money or a better position. He was going to make $260,000 this year.

Personally, I don't hold it against him. If he can further his career and make more money somewhere else, more power to him.

I don't understand why posters think he should never try to improve his career and stay at UT be damned. Also don't understand why the hate against Tee Martin for turning us down.

I'm sure the vast majority of us would leave our current employment for a better opportunity.

Bingo. Some people might not want to be a running backs coach forever.

Imagine if he did this before NSD......we would of looked 10x worse and we prob wouldn't of got half the recruits we have now.

Atleast he left after NSD

He had it in his hands to sink the whole ship if he wanted....

May be good timing if it had to happen, but i bet there's at least a few members of our new class and their families that probably feel they were deceived. That doesnt make for a good start to a career here and it doesnt help recruiting in future years. Yes, it's the business of college football, and everyone knows the guy who recruits you may leave, but good gracious that's got to be a tough pill to swallow for an incoming freshman who had offers at other schools and took a chance b/c he bought the story JG was selling. Just my 2 cents.

Really? Check out their ranking and bowl history over the last couple years.

Last couple years, ok. But that's a bit of an overstatement to me. If you'd have said Bama, Fla or LSU I'd have gotten it, but not really FSU IMO. He got a raise and Recruiting Coordinator position so that's why he left. I think the title more than the school helps his career.

Coach Jones offered him 300k which is within the assistant salary cap.
Didn't work, so I would assume he got a lot more.

I like Jay, but he isin't a Coach Azz who has been offered 3 SEC jobs since arrival at UT.

Go Big Orange!!!

Are we a nation of money whores ?

Jay came from a great job at a stable position to help try to help a lame duck coach at his alma mater. He was also 7th on the staff in pay, terrible for your top recruiter. This is not Tee Martin taking some vacation time to watch his son play ball so he could diss us. This is a guy trying to move up in his profession. Good luck Jay.

Let's see....the Vols are now doomed because they lost a running backs coach who they counted on in recruiting? If their structure is so fragile, don't you think the Vols were doomed anyway?

Is it possible that after evaluation by coach Jones, JG was not happy with his given role? Is the new coaching staff crying crocodile tears like many on this forum?

Something tells me that everything will be just fine when they hire a new RB coach/recruiter who will be a team player and will understand and be happy with his role as a team player.

Coaching Florida St. Is good for his resume also. Quit acting like Jay is doomed. As of right now they have slightly more upside than we do. If they're offering more incentives than he should take it. This fanbase isn't passionate its ridiculous.

My wife ran off with her boss last night too, but at least she waited until the baby had been feed and put to bed

She was so considerate to do so, don't you think? :)

why would any true vol FANatic want to reinforce any negative attitude at this point? You gotta to think we can move towards wanting people to work, watch, and wanna play at UT. Lets get nasty:dance2:
