Coaching Florida St. Is good for his resume also. Quit acting like Jay is doomed. As of right now they have slightly more upside than we do. If they're offering more incentives than he should take it. This fanbase isn't passionate its ridiculous.

As I said, I'm moving on, good luck to Jay in his new endeavor. I hope he is successful unless he is coaching aginst UT.

Lets be honest here, even if he's going there to make the same money and work the same position he is still MUCH better off there than here. First he don't have to worry about SEC D lines and secondly he has a much better stable of backs to work with.
As things stand right now, he was unable to bring in a top rb here when we had one of the best lines in the nation returning so what would happen next year if he yet again failed to bring in a top rb when we would be having almost a whole new, unexperienced line to run behind? He would've ruined his career. Yes it would've been his own fault for not being able to land a true stud rb, but why sit around knowing thats a possibility when he could bail to a place that already has a stud rb in Wilder Jr. and also get to recruit to a team that just won its conference over a place that isn't close to winning its own division.

Hate to say it but this was a brilliant move, career wise, for CJG. He just set himself up for an easier path to an OC gig, something he probably knew he would never have a chance at here.

I think he left for more money. He was one of the lowest paid assistants on the UT staff. Difficult to blame him if he got a significantly greater offer from FSU.

Anyone have info on the record for the longest slow-motion train wreck in history? I can't find the exact numbers , but I'm betting on UTk.

We will probably never know the real reason he left. I'm assuming it is for a lot more money or a better position. He was going to make $260,000 this year.

Personally, I don't hold it against him. If he can further his career and make more money somewhere else, more power to him.

I don't understand why posters think he should never try to improve his career and stay at UT be damned. Also don't understand why the hate against Tee Martin for turning us down.

I'm sure the vast majority of us would leave our current employment for a better opportunity.

I look at it like this.

I'm a fan. I live and die with this program. I pay good money just to see and support a school I did not even attend, I was raised the way I am and I am thankful for it! Now, all the passion and emotion it brings out of me ALL year long is exhausting. However, I am proud of my orange blood and wouldn't give it up for ANYTHING! That's me. Now CJG, he played, ate, slept, breathed, and lived it. I couldn't imagine the blood, sweat, and tears CJG put into what I am just lucky to watch. Therefore,I couldn't imagine the passion he feels for UT football. How can you walk away from something like that? Money? Hell naw! I'd PAY to stand on those sidelines. Don't get mewrong now. I don't hate him or even feel angry that he left. I just don't understand why...I wish him the beat of luck and many victory's over UF!

As much as I hate to say it I think you are short sighted. How much time does a coach have to up his value? Yes 260k is alot per year if you are blue collar but your ass is paying 9 bucks a beer to watch a NFL game and when CJG was there he was making a million per year. He had to travel for every game and spent at least 1/2 of his money there on lodging, accountants, and atorneys (see Travis Henry for more on this fee) then his body wore out to the point that rookies were faster than him. CJG has a shelf life of 5 years tops if he doesn't make it to OC otherwise if he wants to live his dream to be a head coach he will have to move down and make less per year at Tenn Tec or similar. Although this sucks to the n'th degree because he was one of us...You wouldn't turn down a 50% raise for the same job with less stress would you??

Thank you CJG for holding our recruiting class together! Thank you for giving your all for Tennessee!! Next time we see each other we'll fight tooth and nail to beat your a$$ because we're volunteers and you damn sure know that! I wish you the best!

While I agree with everything you said, it still doesn't take the sting away that we lost one of our own to a school we beat for an MNC. Sorry but I loved JG while he played here, coached here, but this one hurts more than I can express.

Imagine if he did this before NSD......we would of looked 10x worse and we prob wouldn't of got half the recruits we have now.

Atleast he left after NSD

He had it in his hands to sink the whole ship if he wanted....

In no way did he do us a favor. If FSU had come calling before NSD he would have jumped ship then. He shouldn't have accepted the position to begin with if he didn't wanna be here. According to Ainge UT matched FSUs offer and he left anyways. Favor? I don't think so.

Could have done us a favor, but all he really did is A) Lied to his recruits by leading them to believe he would be at UT and loved it, or B) Couldnt hide the way he really felt (per Ainge) and the kids he was recruiting picked up on it...hence no top RB's. Best if he had just moved on and let us hire a decent rb coach/recruiter before they were all hired. Think about it, we now have to settle for the coaches that are available in late Feb. I still think it doesnt matter too much, the guy was making a living on recruiting Marcus Lattimore to a different team for Gods sake. Just think the real favor would have been leaving when Dools did. If he wanted out, he should have left.

He is a position coach for a position that is the simplest to coach. He had financial motivations to wait until he did to leave. No big deal here.

perhaps jg looked around him and saw a cohesive coaching staff that is loyal to their head coach and saw no potential to improve upon just being the rb coach. I doubt his coaching aspirations end at being an assistant and as such saw the fsu job as a more feesable option if he wishes to advance his career. Could even be that his loyalty to ut wouldnt allow him to shun his alma mater in the midst of nsd so he stayed and did what he could to ensure our signing class didnt suffer as it could have if he bolted earlier. We will probably never know but accepting another job isnt always a negative indictment on the former employer.

if he didnt want to be here he should not have accepted the position

Sometimes in real life you accept a position to give it a chance. Then, after awhile, you decide it is not the right fit for you. It happens all the time. We just lost a guy at work that quit after a month.
