Guys, honestly, why do people hate the Gators so much?

I've been reading the post-game stuff on ESPN and SI, and its all starting off with how much the regular fans out there dislike Florida so much, but you can't keep them down, the fans of all other teams rooting against them, etc. I don't feel like this is limited to this year's bball tourney. It seems like Florida is pretty much always the team everyone else loves to hate.

Well, us and Notre Dame, anyway.

Is it envy of our recent success? Our own arrogance? People just don't like Noah? I mean, if you don't like him, can't you like Horfor or Green?

I don't like how Horford can hook all game and never get called or push people to the ground without a call. I got no beef with Noah actually.

The fact that 20 years of tradition makes the whole fanbase think they are one of the greatest athletic schools of all time is annoying as well. And the lack of any class or hospitality doesn't bode well in others eyes either.

The majority of Florida fans are native Floridians. That's the answer to your question.

The other reason, is Spurrier's infamous quote "you can't spell Citrus without UT"

He's a classic

I had no problem with Florida until you starting posting here.

Har de har har. Very clever. Now go shoot something.

I can see that. But of course the most rabid Florida fans are the ones who don't know anything other than the success of the last 20 years because they tend to be that young, themselves. But I see the point.

Other than your rivals, it's because you are winning.

I agree except that the more I think about it the more it seems likely to me that this is the thing that makes the rivals ticked at us, too.

I am a native Floridian.

Everyone hates you because you are on top right now in men's basketball and college football.

Well, it won't last. I can see that us Gator fans need to maybe learn to be more humble as we are sure to be out of the limelight before too long in the inevitable give and take of college athletics.

From the average fan out there, I think it's due to Noah. He's one of those guys you love to hate.

As for me, being a UT fan, I just hate all things UF.

I disliked Florida quite a bit before they went on a National Championship winning spree, so that's not all of it apparently.

You misunderstood me. Everyone else needs a reason to dislike UF. Rivals do it naturally.

I think you are out of your mind.

I was born in Florida. And I'm glad we moved to Kville when I was 6.

I don't hate the Gators in hoops. I actually like that team. Donovan is a bit slick for me, but the players are good eggs. I actually like Noah a lot.

Vol fans hate Florida in football mostly b/c of Spurrier. Any hatred of the basketball team is just misguided frustration that UF has eaten our lunch in fball, mostly during CPF's career.

I get what you're saying, except I don't really hate Spurrier.

Another reason UT fans don't like Florida is, because they cost us a National Championship or two during the 90's.

I had never realized before how much Spurrier was loathed up there. To be honest, I used to go back and forth between cringing and laughing every time he had one of his moments. He was incredibly entertaining, and obviously brilliant, but his ultracompetitiveness to me always made him a bit of a whiny jerk. I mean, terrific coach and fun to have in that slot, but not someone I'd ever want to play golf with.

We hate Florida because: You owned us in football in the 90s, Spurrier, "the drop", Wuerffel, the Joey Kent hit, lame amusment parks, better selection of hatwear at local stores (this is true, always getting a hat on vacation), you have beaches and we don't, saltwater fishing, your fans are louder, Doering, you think you are really in the south, Kurt Keane, 'yall invented Gaytorade, the Gator chomp, the very hot girls in Gainesville, we cannot talk smack on your basketball tradition (unlike in football), Emmitt the dancing queen, you guys hate FSU more than your biggest conference rival, we have to play in your humid humid weather every other year in September, Dimarco w/the gator clubheads, you have too many reasonably priced courses that would rank right up there w/River Island or Fox Den here in East Tenn, and finally.....trailer parks.

The reason I hate the gators so much is because the way my family has been treated every time we've been there. I actually had soomeone pour a drink on my (then 8yo) son because he was wearing a UT jersey.

On the other hand when my daughter (a uf fan like my ex-wife) went to the UT-uf game in K'ville with me, all the UT fans she encountered were friendly. Some good natured ribbing, of course, but after the game (uf won) these same fans searched her out in out tailgating spot to say "good game". On top of that, when my son and I went to another game a few weeks later, I had several UT fans ask where that "gator girl" was, looking forward to the tailgating. That was class. All I've ever seen from the gator nation is a**.
