Guys, honestly, why do people hate the Gators so much?

Not a bad song, they just stole it.

Also, I wonder how Michigan chose the Wolverine as the mascot, because I believe there was never a wolverine seen in the state of Michigan.

The way they play it sounds like "Working on the Railroad". It certainly doesn't sound like a Hymn. It's terrible. If I were a UGA fan, I would hope that we would win all our games 3-0 so I would have to hear that song as little as possible.

They don't play the song that slow and it's only the first part. I don't love it, but I can't honestly say I hate it.

I've been reading the post-game stuff on ESPN and SI, and its all starting off with how much the regular fans out there dislike Florida so much, but you can't keep them down, the fans of all other teams rooting against them, etc. I don't feel like this is limited to this year's bball tourney. It seems like Florida is pretty much always the team everyone else loves to hate.

Well, us and Notre Dame, anyway.

Is it envy of our recent success? Our own arrogance? People just don't like Noah? I mean, if you don't like him, can't you like Horfor or Green?

florida fans at neyland stadium. the only fans anywhere during a game i have had problems. loudmouths. noah sucks to, i really can't stand that guy.:banghead2:

I respect your opinion, but it's not like I'm the only person that's ever said that.

:)It's funny that we are even discussing this. I've heard that before, but really the only thing those songs have in common is that they have the same number of syllables in the first line of the song. You can fit "I've been working on the railroad" into the opening line of "Glory", but the notes and tempo aren't the same (like I'm a musician or something.)

PS - I doubt I've convinced you otherwise . . . and since it sickens me to even think about that godforsaken song, this is going to be my last word on this. :p

I would say that Spurrier is the root of most of the hatred. He beat the Vols and made fun of them while he did it.

I agree except that the more I think about it the more it seems likely to me that this is the thing that makes the rivals ticked at us, too.

Trust me, there are many other reasons besides Florida's current success as to why the volunteer nation hates you guys.

Spurrier made fun of everybody though. Can't hate the guy because he's provided some of the greatest quotes in college football

"FSU = Free Shoes University"

Told Tommy Bowden that once he became a good coach he could ask for a raise

The Citrus Bowl quote was funny

He's also a hell of a coach.

I hate Florida is their fans and because of UT's inability to beat them at football when UT should have. Also the Gaffney catch was the most absurd thing I've ever seen.

While steadily climbing the charts, UF will have to settle for #2 on the hate list. Number 1 and still champion is :bammer:

(I will say that at least you can go to a UAT game and enjoy yourself. That is not true at a UF game. Will never go back)

The fact that 20 years of tradition makes the whole fanbase think they are one of the greatest athletic schools of all time is annoying as well. And the lack of any class or hospitality doesn't bode well in others eyes either.

This right here is your answer. I live in Atlanta, which you might call the crossroads of the SEC, since everybody's fans come through here at some point. The bartenders at my local pub are mostly from Ireland and the UK; they don't care whatsoever about college sports, but to a man they regard Florida fans as the worst in the south: the loudest, obnoxious, and worst to serve. (I've even heard that Florida fans are crappy tippers, too, but only from one English guy.)

When a team starts winning all the time in both football and basketball, AND their fans get a reputation for acting like jackasses, it's no wonder that everybody else relishes seeing them lose.

That is the reason I detest Florida too. Their players and fans are so obnoxious, rude, and full of themselves.
