Had it with roll tide?

If, like someone said, the Bama commercial had a fan with dip in and talking in an outrageous redneck accent about trailer parks and squeezed a Roll Tide in there I'd just say it's a bunch of patronizing yankees. This pretty much singles out our fanbase as being ignorant hicks.

But, since Bama's non-stop commercial makes them look like a normal but obsessed fanbase and ours made us out to be ignorant hicks better suited on an episode of Jerry Springer... combined with Fowler's infamous comment... it's hard to ignore, honestly.

if you really think the picture ESPN painted of UT fans in the elevator is that much different than the picture painted of Bama fans in this commercial, you're bias is so strong that it's just not worth the argument. It's essentially the same commercial, just for Alabama, not us.

I personally think its funny. If for nothing else it shows how SEC is more passionate than anywhere else.

I think it has something to do with Bama having some partnership with ESPN for interns. Something like that. I don't like the commercial so I simply change the channel if it comes on

If you think that commercial helps with recruiting you're crazy. That commercial filled with red neck trash has people laughing at alabubba all over the country.
Yeah, keep telling yourself that. Fact of the matter is, ESPN is a huge recruiting tool. You don't think high school players watch ESPN? You don't think they pay attention to what schools are being talked about etc? Also, they might be laughing at the "redneck trash" in New York, but to the good ole boys who are looking for a school to play for, it's nothing to them. Again, an advantage considering Bama mainly recruits in the South.

The bottom line is, the NCAA should crack down on ESPN showing favoritism to certain teams. If they're all about leveling the playing field now, this should be an issue for them.

And for the record, I think the commercial is pretty funny.

I wonder if bammers know that there making fun of them haha

You don't even know which words to use. There is a place, their shows ownership, and they're is a contraction for "they are". So at least use proper English if you are trying to make fun of someone else.

Periods are placed inside of quotation marks. Glass houses...

Not in all situations. Like, not in the one "champ" used. "They are" is in quotations to describe the contraction of "they're", it is not it's own statement. Therefore, the period goes after the quotation marks. Unbelievable that Bammers are beating us at grammar.

The roll-tide commercial shows successful people using the phrase. Men in business suits, a news anchor, a state trooper, etc. They show hicks and respectable people saying the Bama slogan.

The most respectable UT fan in the Rocky Top commercial was probably the guy grilling in the elevator.

That said....I don't think it's that big of a deal...

Reaaaallly?

See Rule 1: Quotation Marks | Punctuation Rules

Also, see:
Quotation Marks

According to AP and Chicago:
Period Goes Inside Quotation Marks

Unless always doesn't actually mean always, I believe that I'm correct. This is assuming that we're using American English.

that's not how I was taught and many papers I've written, both for classes and for media release were corrected and made to be written the English way.

I don't know what form of citation you were taught, but the three major forms of academic writing (APA, MLA, and Chicago) and the legal citation that I have been taught are all in 100% agreement. Perhaps we studied in different fields.

Regardless, bammers inherently suck at life. Go vols.

according to AP style, you're right. I've been doing it wrong for years, because I was taught and corrected to do it the other way. Interesting

ESPN probably still thinks of all SEC fans as the ones shown in the ut ad, just now the SEC if their cash cow. That ut ad is very bad and embarrassing to all SEC fans.

I personally think that commercials like these should stop unless ESPN wants to make one for every college team and air them equally. Otherwise, it's just a recruiting advantage for the few teams that get constant publicity.

You were singing a different tune for the UT commercial. You actually supported it being pulled.

If there was nothing offensive about that commercial, then it wouldn't have been pulled because of so many complaints in the first place.

I understand that you like being controversial, but don't be ridiculous.

Maybe you would understand better if ESPN did a commercial like that about whatever team you pull for.

I don't see how Bama fans would be proud of it. The commercial seems to make fun of them if anything.

Or maybe, just a silly thought here, that the commercial is being aired because bama won last year's title game?
