Hail to the Washington Commanders

Same. Cousins broke or nearly broke quite a few franchise records last season. If he repeats how he played the second half of the season, there's no way you let him walk.

I think it's just talk honesty.

It sounds like talk to drive down the asking price. They had a very finite amount of leverage with that kind of talk leading up to trying to get a long term deal done by Friday. It didn't happen, nor should anyone have expected it to. If Cousins repeats the second half of last season, or even plays just under that level, the Redskins have to make sure he gets a deal, even though it will be a huge pay day for Cousins. It's the current NFL. McCloughan is a great scout, but there just aren't that many good NFL QBs with college relying so heavily on mobile qbs right now.

SM hasn't lost his job because he doesn't know what he's doing, so I trust him. He just has to stay away from the bottle.

In the final eight games last season, Cousins owned the NFL’s best passer rating and was second in QBR, but he has yet to defeat a team with a winning record in 26 career starts.

that was discussed last season. They played 3 teams that finished with a winning record last year. The Pats, Jets and Panthers

I imagine the "internal discussions" went something like:

SM: any one got ideas?
Random scouts: (insert random names/ trades here)
SM: I'm not excited about any of those
One random scout: well, if it's talent you want, Greg Hardy is available if we want that kind of baggage.
SM: yeah, no.
Scouts: didn't think so

I doubt (even if Snyder was in the room) the conversation lasted three minutes
