Hail to the Washington Commanders

But Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan said he'd have no problem signing Culliver if he fails to get a deal elsewhere.

"It was just the numbers and what we have going now," McCloughan said. "Norman came out of nowhere; boom, falls in our lap. Breeland I really respect. So we have numbers. The door is not closed. He can test the market and see what happens and hopefully he gets what he wants."

Cravens chose 36 because of Sean Taylor

Just as has been reported many, many times, pretty much nobody, especially including American Indians (i.e., "native Americans"), gives two ishes about the Washington Redskins' nickname....

Poll finds large majority of Native Americans are OK with “Redskins”

"A poll of Native Americans found that the vast majority do not object to the Washington NFL team’s name.

The Washington Post commissioned a poll with a randomly selected national sample of 504 Native American adults. That poll asked, “The professional football team in Washington calls itself the Washington Redskins. As a Native American, do you find that name offensive, or doesn’t it bother you?”

The result was a strong argument for Dan Snyder’s case that his team does not need to change its name: A whopping 90 percent answered that the name doesn’t bother them. Only 9 percent called the name offensive, with 1 percent having no opinion."

Skins come in at #21 in ESPN's ranking of rosters

21. Washington Redskins

Top five players: OT Trent Williams, CB Josh Norman, TE Jordan Reed, DE Chris Baker, OLB Ryan Kerrigan

Starters who should be upgraded: OC Kory Lichtensteiger, LB Perry Riley, LB Mason Foster

Washington landed one of the coups of the offseason when Norman unexpectedly became available in April. He adds a legitimate elite-level coverage player to a secondary that has shown ability, particular in the development of Bashaud Breeland. The Redskins' front seven has several good players, and overall this defense could be an impressive unit in 2016.

On offense, Kirk Cousins cemented himself as the starter at quarterback, and there is enough talent for this team to be very good. Rookie wideout Josh Doctson has the ability to become an elite target, but he'll need time. The only major issue is in the middle of the offensive line, where Lichtensteiger was poor and banged up in 2015, causing major problems to the offense as a whole. The Redskins could move up this list rapidly if he can find his best form again, or if they can find an upgrade.

The Redskins have about $11 million of available space. That puts them in the top 20 of NFL teams when it comes to current cap space.

I wish they would use for interior linemen

Our line should be better this year. Long will probably win the LG spot. Scherff at RG. We're set at T with Williams and Moses. The only issue I see is at center, but we should be healthy there this year at least.

Plus our "key" free agents next year: Cousins, Baker, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Perry Riley Jr., Logan Paulsen, Vernon Davis, Kendall Reyes, Kedric Golston, Duke Ihenacho and Galette.

The Redskins have about $40 million available under next year’s salary cap. That puts them in the top half of the NFL for cap space next offseason, as of now.

I can't fathom they re-sign both Jackson and Garcon, and I think it depends on how Davis performs as,to whether he plays anywhere next year, yet alone remains in DC

That's who ESPN had listed as key free agents. I wouldn't consider Davis, Riley, or Duke to be key FAs

I could see where neither PG or DJ return (though I think we end up keeping one of the two).

The only FAs I'm worried about keeping really are Cousins (if he puts up the numbers) and Galette (if he stays healthy).

Barring a SB run, I think it'd be nice to keep one of the two with a 3ish year deal. Jackson will want more than that likely and Garcon could probably get more of he wanted. But with that scenario, the Skins could draft another WR and let he and Doctson grow into leading roles along with Crowder.
