Vince Young's problems go far past his mental deficiencies... and that's saying something.
Don't think so. Campbell is actually a fairly smart player. His problem most of his college / pro career has been him having to learn new systems. When he was playing at Auburn, he had to learn 3 or 4 if I'm not mistaken and everyone knows what the Skins have been through regarding coaching changes.Haven't his problems been more about his lack of being able to absorb the game mentally, a little like Vince Young?
There are a lot of obvious answers to the question, "Who would want Jay Cutler?", mainly because there are a lot of teams in the NFL with bad quarterbacks. One not-so-obvious team has been identified as "among the leading candidates" for Cutler, and that's the Washington Redskins.
The Washington Redskins are actively pursuing a trade for disgruntled Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler tonight, according to NFL sources.
One source said the Redskins are trying to complete the deal as quickly as possible although at least two other teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, are also reportedly interested in acquiring Cutler. The two-year starter became available today when the Broncos announced they would trade him. Denver officials could not be reached for comment tonight.
The Redskins declined comment.
The source said Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder has been pushing for the trade in an attempt to finally solve the team's decades-long pursuit of a franchise quarterback.
Another NFL source said a high-ranking Redskins official contacted one NFL team today about the possibility of trading quarterback Jason Campbell for a second-round pick in the upcoming draft. That source said he interpreted the Redskins' overture as an attempt by Washington to put together a package to acquire Cutler.
Several NFL sources said that Snyder, eager to finally solve the team's decades-long pursuit of a franchise quarterback, was the force behind the Redskins' efforts to acquire Cutler, who was traded from the Denver Broncos to the Chicago Bears on Thursday. Snyder called the meeting to clear the air about the team's attempts to replace Campbell, Washington's starter for the last 2 1/2 seasons, and attempt to move forward toward the upcoming season
Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations, and Coach Jim Zorn also attended the meeting, which lasted about two hours, in Snyder's office at Redskins Park. Snyder and Campbell spoke candidly, Campbell said, and left the session on good terms, focusing on the future.
"I expressed myself, Dan expressed himself and we just spoke honestly about the whole situation," Campbell said. "It was good to just talk about everything and for everybody to just say where they're coming from. For me, I just wanted to express what I'm trying to do as the quarterback of this team: trying to get better every day to help us reach that higher level we all want to reach.
Snyder told Campbell he wants him to become a franchise quarterback, Campbell said, but he has not reached that level yet in Snyder's opinion. After the Redskins failed to qualify for the playoffs last season, Cerrato declined to commit to Campbell as the team's quarterback beyond the upcoming season.
The Washington Redskins yesterday confirmed a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report that backup quarterback Byron Leftwich worked out Friday for the team at Redskins Park. Leftwich, a Washington native and longtime starter with Jacksonville, spent last season as a backup in Pittsburgh.
Sanchez, Scout.com's top-rated quarterback in this year's draft class, is scheduled to visit the Washington Redskins on April 17-18
Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell's future in the nation's capital doesn't look very bright. The Redskins were one of the teams who discussed potential trade possibilities with the Denver Broncos when Jay Cutler was put on the open market this month. Now, it appears, Washington is considering adding a young quarterback who could step into the starter's role no later than next year since Campbell is in the final year of his contract.
For the love of God, for the second pick we get a CB out of Maryland? Why are we always taking CB's? They should have used that pick for either the OL or OLB spot, no CB. Oh well..

Offensive tackle Mike Williams, whom the Redskins signed Friday, won't participate in this weekend's minicamp because he weighs 410 pounds, 40 more than he carried during his last NFL season of 2005. The fourth overall pick in the 2002 draft to Buffalo, Williams has been living with former Texas teammate Derrick Dockery.
"He is two guys standing side by side with their arms around each other," Zorn said. "That's how wide he is."
Executive vice president Vinny Cerrato said he liked the way Williams looked during his workout Friday, helping prompt the Redskins to bypass their need for a tackle at the draft.
